    Hi guys

Just to say I had the same problem, it was because I’d changed my admin password. I’d figured I needed to go in to bbpress and also change the admin password there but I hadn’t also made the change in the forums intergration part. Not sure if this applies for anyone else….

To clarify, this is something we’re going to be using for paying clients, not the public at large, so that should take some of the issues raised above out of the equation.

Also, this is going to enable us to take away the 4 separate passwords / logins our paying customers need to use currently down to 2 for things like the forums, their website, billing, support, etc…. that is the main reason we’re implementing this…. otherwise we wouldn’t waste our time building something unless it was totally necessary….

I’m not concerned about whether or not it is a trend as RPX has been getting serious traction and even some big box retailers have started using it, so unless it crashes and burns, I’m not worried. If it gets us by for a year or two, I would be happy with that too. :)

Those experiencing difficulty with posting should find their problems are now gone.

This generally only happened to people who had registered elsewhere (like bbPress.org or WordPress.org) and were trying to post on these forums for the first time.

Also, you will now notice that you can add tags at the same time as replying.

For those of you who have the authority to delete tags, that now works again too.

    Yeah – I’m back… meh……

Has anyone installed bbpress 1.0 from scratch and got group discussions to work? After another 20 or 30 installs, I’ve decided that there’s gotta be something in alpha 6 that buddypress is looking for. Something that bbpress 1 doesn’t have. I say this because I can get all of this stuff to work together but ONLY if I upgrade from alpha 6. I don’t dare try the RC versions.

When doing the upgrade, the database is updated & gives the following info

    Beginning upgrade…
    >>> Modifying database: monday3 (localhost)
    >>>>>> Table: bb_term_taxonomy
    >>>>>>>>> Adding index: taxonomy
    >>>>>>>>>>>> Done
Making plugin directory at C:\wamp\www\monday3\forums/my-plugins/: bb_upgrade_1110
Making theme directory at C:\wamp\www\monday3\forums/my-templates/: bb_upgrade_1120

Is it something in that update that does it or is there a specific file that’s left over from alpha 6 that has data that buddypress needs? It seems like if I delete the forum files & then upload the new version’s files, it still doesn’t work. But if I just rename the bb-config file & do an overwrite, the upgrade works fine.

Yay – and back to Boo!!! Why the heck won’t this stuff install fresh?

Recap — I upgraded from bbpress alpha 6 to bbpress 1 – all works

Upgraded from BP1 to BP1.0.2 and all works

But now, (fresh install) I install bbpress 1 & BP1.0.2 and discussion just refuse to work.

I checked both config files vs the working install & everything matches up.

Checked all xml settings and they’re on.

Checked all forums settings pages & they match with the working install.

The only plugins on the working install are BP and bbpress-integration. Same on non-working fresh install.

Could there be a file missing from one of the installs that would remain during an upgrade but wouldn’t be there if I’m installing fresh? (I’m not this stupid dangit lol It shouldn’t be this hard)

As always, thank you for your help.

Doing that gives problems related to theme and wpmu install issues.

I wonder if the messaging system uses cookies?

It doesn’t sound really like the issue the 3 of us found. Does it? I just got finished working with somebody yesterday. His problem was that creating one group after another on the same computer caused the 2nd group to adopt the group id of the 1st group.

The underlying issue and solution was that he didn’t have any cookie domains set in wp-config.php

    https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3452

These cookie issues are tough to debug. We do the ‘works for me’ thing because our wpmu instances are different. Right now bp relies on the wpmu instance supplying the cookie path and domain. Perhaps to cover such situations bp should specify it’s path and domain. Would that bypass the wpmu credentials? Would it matter?

So I install these pages into my new theme?

In my WPMU, there is no site admin for BP. It isn’t there. The buddypress setting for each blog is there, but no site admin options.

You probably need this plugin. It’s an annoying WPMU issue.

Sorry about that – You didn’t mention what version of bbPress you were using and I assumed that since you were in an old post, you were using the old version. I’m working on a tutorial (or will be the second I get this sucker to work) My suggestion at this moment would be to follow my tutorial for installing the alpha 6 version. And then upgrade it using r-a-y’s instructions at this post. I know it’s not the greatest answer but for now, it’s all I can personally offer. Hopefully someone will have a tutorial up shortly. LOL

    Hi mohitkro5,

It sounds like you’re trying to use WordPress shortcodes in Buddypress fields.

Where are you trying to embed your videos?

BuddyPress doesn’t allow WordPress shortcodes to work in profile fields, wire posts and group forum posts.

bbPress has a few plugins to parse videos.

Hi, thanks. Tried this, Still same problem. I activated plugin (tried both locations).

The thread https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3444 imply that no buddypress support plugin is required.

All this a bit confusing. Isn’t there a full install/integration tutorial available for ver 1?

Yep r-a-y that’s the exact sequence. Even down to enable/disable forums in each group.

One of the things I noticed about his site is that group forums aren’t turned on. That means that he’s running the default wp-config.php settings for cookies and not the altered settings that bbpress integration creates.

    Hmmm…

Perhaps the bp setcookie() calls were written just assuming some wp-config.php defines for cookies that aren’t present on his site.

I’m up and running on bbPress 1.0 as well!

    Integration appears to work!

FYI, I was on bbPress 1.0 alpha 6 with BP 1.0.2.

    Here’s what I did:

-Thanks to Burt and Sam (over at bbPress) for their instructions

    1) Backup database

    2) Backup bbPress forum plugins and themes

    3) Deactivate all bbPress plugins from the bbPress admin area.

    4) Comment out only the cookie-related lines in wp-config.php (Do not remove your defined KEYS or SALTS)

    5) Manually upgrade bbPress to 1.0 (basically download bbPress 1.0 and overwrite the old bbPress files).

    6) Download bbPress Integration plugin into your WPMU plugins folder (/wp-content/plugins)

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-integration/

    7) Log in to WPMU and activate the bbPress Integration plugin.

    8) In WPMU admin area, go to “Settings > bbPress Integration”.

Enter in your bbPress URL (eg. http://example.com/forums/) and for WordPress type, select “WordPress MU”.

    Hit “Save Changes”.

    9) Copy the now-generated “Manual Cookie Settings” to line 2 of your wp-config.php file.

Copy the bbPress define line into your bb-config.php file.

    10) Log into your bbPress admin area.

At this point, a bbPress message should pop up asking you to upgrade the database. Do so.

Hopefully, bbPress should have upgraded successfully at this point.

    11) Now login into the bbPress admin area, go to “Settings > WordPress Integration”.

Everything should already be set (if you used TheEasyButton’s tutorial for 1.0 alpha 6 that was the case for me!).

    Hit “Save Changes”.

    12) Reactivate all bbPress plugins.

    13) Clear your browser cookies and attempt to login to WPMU and head to your bbPress forums URL. If you’re logged in to bbPress, mission accomplished!

    14) If you have BuddyPress group forums enabled, login to your BuddyPress Groups (eg. http://example.com/members/YOURUSERNAME/groups/).

Go into each group’s admin settings area, and uncheck “Enable Discussion Forum” and “Save Changes”. Then re-check “Enable Discussion Forum” again and “Save Changes”.

This is what worked for me… can’t say it will work in all cases though!

Step #11 will probably differ for some depending on what they did before.

Now I got to update my custom bbPress theme for all the new changes made since 1.0 alpha 6!

Since BuddyPress requires WPMU, this is really a WPMU question. Search their forums.

Here are a few threads to get you started, but do a more thorough search than just relying on the few posts I’ve linked below:

I read your posts in this thread: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2657

What caught my eye was your statement:

I have a lot of plugins for MU but I didn’t include any extra BP plugins.

To trouble shoot, please read my post in that thread just above your first post.

Deactivating plugins does not mean just “BuddyPress plugins”. Why? Because BP is itself a plugin. What others may call “BuddyPress plugins” are actually WPMU plugins that extend the BuddyPress plugin in some way.

When we ask people what other plugins they have running and advise them to deactivate all plugins except BP, we mean all WPMU plugins except BP!

Furthermore as I detail in my linked-to post, to effectively troubleshoot, you need to be running the default BP themes. Basically, you need to remove as many variables as possible.

Apparently lack of consistency/synchronization between members data in WPMU and members data in Buddypress x-profile causes other problems as well.

Please look into this! I was going to rely on WPMU/Buddypress for member management in my project, but am not so sure anymore.
