    Do you have bbPress plugin installed. If not, please install “bbPress” plugin and on its settings page, enable forums for BuddyPress. That will do it.

    Hi, nice one!

    Would you like to participate in a small plugin testing? It’s about search inside BuddyPress (groups, members, forums). This plugin will display you info who searches for what and where (in your case mainly members searching other members on Members directory page, as you have only 2 groups and no forum). BP Search won’t break anything 🙂 It just collects information (no “phoning home”). I will than ask you for feedback and suggestions.
    If interested – please contact me via [MyUsernameHere]@list.ru

    There can be some plugins that make this happen. Try deactivating all of them (except BuddyPress) one by one to see which might cause it.
    You could have written some code in bp-custom.php file or in your theme’s functions.php – check those files as well.

    Also, groups can’t be added to forums – they are different components. Although groups can have own forums.

    @mas6ce That upper sidebar content above the Search form:

    HIDE/SHOW FORM
    name
    location
    mentor or mentee
    导师/mentor
    学员/mentee

    is most probably integrated with the theme you have activated now. Since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best.

    Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

    Hi,

    I am trying to do the same. I mean a group with more than 1 forum where only group members have access to the group’s forums.

    I want to be able to select more forums for 1 group.

    @schulz
    ,

    Did you get it done?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Hastig for getting back to me. I’ve received a response from the Google Webmaster Product Forums that this is not a Buddypress issue but a Google Analytics content experiments issue. Have fixed the problem!

    Thanks for your help nonetheless!

    Cheers,

    Following up on this topic:

    I’ve received a heads up from the Google Webmaster Product forums support suggesting that my redirection issue is potentially a buddypress related problem.
    https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/webmasters/l60LFtvlQ90

    Anyone got any ideas as to how to fix this?

    I realize that my post may seem overwhelming, especially for an online help forum, but I was trying to be all inclusive and provide as much info as possible. It would take someone really motivated to go through my attached files in the first post. It basically comes down to the relevant portion of my page source using BP 1.5 which is as follows….

    hi @henrywright,
    i just use this code,

    function bruce_localisation( $translated, $original_text, $domain ) {

    switch ( $original_text ) {
    // 1
    case ‘Forums’:
    return ‘Discussions’;

    // 2
    case ‘Forum’:
    return ‘Discussion’;

    }
    }
    add_filter( ‘gettext’, ‘bruce_localisation’, 10, 3 );

    Without root access to your godaddy account, it is not possible to provide a definitive answer.
    All we can do is guess and provide general suggestions.
    It’s probably due to the large number of pending members.
    You may need more memory and / or cpu for your account.

    You should not make your root access info public.

    You can post a job listing here and / or try find a developer who will track down the exact problem and possible solutions.

    Thanks for the reply

    Are you suggesting using the first, second or both solutions?

    Where do I post them?

    I’m considering installing a separate forum plugin to manage this area if the above doesn’t work.

    No problem @henrywright, thank you for your help. My coding experience is nil so it has been an interesting experience as I have to Google around for everything. It’s great to have this forum which is full of code snippets to use/modify and experts like yourself to ask for help when I hit a wall. Thanks!

    I’m not sure if bbPress functions are available via that action hook, but if they are then this might work:

    function imath_activity_dont_save( $activity_object ) {

        $exclude = array( 'bbp_topic_create', 'bbp_reply_create');
        $exclude_forum_ids = array( 1, 23, 44 ); // the ids of the specific forums to exclude

        if( in_array( $activity_object->type, $exclude ) ) {
           $forum_id = bbp_get_forum_id();
            if( in_array( $forum_id, $exclude_forum_ids ) )
                $activity_object->type = false;
        }
    }
    add_action('bp_activity_before_save', 'imath_activity_dont_save', 10, 1 );
    shanebp

    This is not easy.

    You need to use $activity_object->secondary_item_id to get the topic id.
    Then use that to get the forum id.

    Something like this, untested:

    function imath_activity_dont_save( $activity_object ) {
        global $wpdb;
        $exclude = array( 'bbp_topic_create', 'bbp_reply_create');
        $exclude_forum_ids = array( 1, 23, 44 ); // the ids of the specific forums to exclude

        if( in_array( $activity_object->type, $exclude ) ) {
           $topic_id = $activity_object->secondary_item_id;
           $forum_id = $wpdb->get_var("SELECT post_parent FROM {$wpdb->prefix}posts WHERE ID = $topic_id");
            if( in_array( $forum_id, $exclude_forum_ids ) )
                $activity_object->type = false;
        }
    }
    add_action('bp_activity_before_save', 'imath_activity_dont_save', 10, 1 );

    @bruce30 I’ve made an edit to the code above which means it’ll now work for all text on your site, not just bbPress or BuddyPress text. So now if a new third-party plugin you add decides to use the word Forum, that will also be translated. I think this is a better approach.

    @bruce30, building on @danbp’s answer, you can add another case. Take a look at this example below which has 4 cases. Feel free to add or remove cases yourself. The number of cases you use will depend on the number of words or phrases you need to change.

    function bruce_localisation( $translated, $original_text, $domain ) {

        switch ( $original_text ) {
            // 1
            case 'Forums':
                return 'Discussions';

            // 2
            case 'Forum':
                return 'Discussion';

            // 3
            case 'Piano':
                return 'Guitar';

            // 4
            case 'Lion':
                return 'Tiger';

            default:
                return $translated;
        }
    }
    add_filter( 'gettext', 'bruce_localisation', 10, 3 );

    Could you wrap the area you want seen by only the logged in user with bp_is_my_profile()

    Something like this..

    <?php if (bp_is_my_profile()) : ?>
        show this
    <?php endif; ?>

    bp_is_my_profile on hookr
    asked in a past buddypress forum post

    Hi,

    you need to use bbpress.po translation file, even if your site is in default english language.
    Or if you only want to modify one word, you can use this snippet from inside your child-theme’s functions.php (will also work in bp-custom.php)

    function bruce_change_name( $translated, $original_text, $domain ) {

    	if ( 'bbpress' !== $domain )
    	return $translated;

    	switch ( $original_text ) {

    		case 'Forums':  // original word
    		return 'Four Rhum'; // your custom word

    		default:
    		return $translated;
    	}
    }
    add_filter( 'gettext', 'bruce_change_name', 10, 3 );

    I think so with the use of a language file.

    Ref: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/customizing/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

    Also, according to the Customizable Slugs in BuddyPress article, you should be able to add this to your wp-config.php file to change your slug:

    define ( 'BP_FORUMS_SLUG', 'discussions' );
