ParticipantIt’s the same problem: add friend, join group and letter list. I can’t reproduce this on my side. The security system called ‘nonce’ is failing on your sites and only when the individual link security is wrapped in a larger form security mechanism.
What do you two have in common?
modemlooper, did you just upgrade from a prev version of bp like cdutoit?
I’m gonna close this thread. Let’s all talk in one. See me in:

ParticipantI have written a general forum plugin, which takes the group forum plugin, and initialize it to a second bbpress install, which is a general forums. It is very rough, and needs some work before I might release it. It has the advantage over doing a bbpress theme, that is uses the buddypress theme. The downside is it uses the xmlrpc for all communication to the bbpress install.
You can see it here, I’m waiting for a ticket I opened in trac for the error to go away, but you get an idea how it works:

That is referencing the same problem, but also no solution yet.
Really appreciate the help

Participantmodemlooper – I have the same problem with the “add friend”. I have a similar thread going here:

Burtadsit is trying to help me over there. I’m sure it will be the same solution for both of us.

ParticipantI like this “Tag This” concept more and more.
– The tagging window could display a list of the user’s groups. Select a group and the existing tags for the group are displayed.
– Select one or more tags or create one or more.
– Enter an excerpt of the content by copy and paste, type something in or an excerpt gets inserted for editing if it’s an internal tag.
– A list of content types is available for selection: ‘blog’, ‘blog post’, ‘site’, ‘forum’, ‘forum topic’, ‘feed’, ‘uncategorized’.
– Item gets sent to the group’s tagged content moderation queue for approval. Possible reassignment to a different tag(s) within the group and check for content type match.
– Approval posts to the item’s tags and posted in some default tags such as ‘recent’ (cache), ‘author name’.
– Activity streams are updated.
– Subscribers to group tags are notified by email, notification in admin bar, inbox notification(?).

KeymasterI am using the “Post Counts Plus” plug in for bbPress in conjunction with the new Group Forums BuddyPress plug in, and they seem to play nice together to do what you’re asking about.

KeymasterShouldn’t you belong to the group “Transformers ARE awesome?”

Which I mean, they are… The new movie left something to be desired, and Voltron was always better than Transformers, but that’s a little off topic for this convo…

I think, from what I gather, that what you’re really talking about are categorized group links, probably with similar relative content like the blogroll style links functionality already has, that can be approved or denied by a group moderator or administrator. Maybe call them Glinks? A new functionality for generating a link from a website to yours, via a mini app or from the group control panel, for content relative to the topic.
This could be further extended by allowing Glinks for tags, or blogs, or forum posts also… “The people viewing this *blog/tag/post* also thought these links were interesting…” kind of thing…
Make sense?
I hope that group creation isn’t rendered obsolete, quite the opposite actually. I am used to using groups for permission based structure, to allow one group of users to perform a task that others cannot, and vice versa. I hope that the groups functionality is expanded in further versions of *Press to allow for certain groups to moderate other groups, blogs, forums, etc… In a real life community, groups, users, and content naturally exist within some kind of hierarchy, otherwise it tends to become a mish-mash of conflicting content. This is basically why blogs allow for multiple categories and sub categories, for without that structure, it’s just a page full of random jibber jabber.
This holds true in the virtual world, where certain groups of individuals are held as a more credible source than others, some groups have rankings and attributes that allow some group members to be more valuable than others, etc…
Am I rambling now?

Participant“and would probably render group creation irrelevant down the line (all in good time).”
Dynamic groups Andy? I think you’d still want and need the groups as containers for members and apps like the wire and forums.
What John was suggesting was a “Press This” type of mini app for tagging content to a bp site. It would be useful both on the site and just browsing around the net. “Tag This” instead. That type of tagging would only be useful for things that have urls. An image in a slide show or album may not have an url. Wire posts don’t. Content that would be on a bp site that don’t resolve down to an url would need a little “Tag This” link so that the link would transfer component/item_id information to the popup “Tag This” window.
I think we are talking about the same thing.

ParticipantNope – I’ve done all that – I can post on buddypress and and appears in forum and I can post on forum end and appears in buddypress group.
the only thing I didn’t do was the intial wordpress integration when installing bbpress – which is found under “bbpress” >> setting >> wp integration.
During bbpress I got “minor” errors regard auth_salt and “cookies” which I ignored as I ssumed the buddypress/bbpress integaration would’ve superseded the initial wp/bbpress integartion.

ParticipantHowdy. You can access the bp group forums from Groups > My Groups > <pick a group> > Forums. The bbpress theme doesn’t get changed by doing user integration with wpmu.
It sounds like you have one more step to take and that is to configure bp group forums. That is detailed in the file /mu-plugins/bp-forums/installation-readme.txt
There is also an extremely helpful topic by Trent located here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=471

ParticipantWell, looking at the CSS in IE8’s developer tool it seems as if some CSS with a 0.9em font-size setting is inherited over and over which is probably why it keeps decreasing.
I’m not well-versed enough in BP’s CSS but I think the culprit is the “Activity” class, as Burt hinted to. The class “Small” might be a problem as well. I’m just guessing though as I can’t reproduce the error on my setup.
I’m having completely different problems though. See this screenshot for the totally screwed up CSS: http://www.mocol.nu/uploaded_images/bp_group_forum_css_error.png
It’s in swedish but as you might be able to figure out the admin bar is lodged in there with some of the drop down menus.
So, if anyone manages to fix the CSS, let me know and I’ll gladly test it out.

Moderatorgreat idea. no, GREAT IDEA!!! really.
Tagging all the content would make life easier, like wiki’s self-tagging.
Then maybe some categories could be added? I mean:
– Groups:
Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags …
– Blogs:
Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags …
– Forums (group ones):
Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags, Tags …
– Wires: is this really useful – should something like “Hi, how are you?” be accessable through tags? Wire is not very informative, as for me.
I think categories will show what topics are important/famous.

ParticipantJust noticed this topic. Little late I know but.. I think a subscription mechanism would be very useful. Not just for blogs but for forums also. It was one of my early “I’m gonna do this someday” projects in bp. Haven’t had a chance to start it yet. I’ve just started working on a ‘tags’ enhancement for bp groups. The ability to tag site content and manage those tags at the group level.
Just thinking out loud here.
Tags for content would be useful at the member level as well. I could create a tag in my profile that contained all the blogs I visit and read. I could tag the forums I visit. Sites I visit. Blog articles of interest to me. Forum threads I find useful. Entertaining things I find in my travels on the net.
Just thinking out loud here.

Are you using a custom members theme?
If so it won’t be RC1 compatible.
You might be able to patch the groups module to get the forums working…
Download RC1 – open members theme folder, copy the groups folder, paste it over your current groups folder and it might fix your problem.
Of course, backup your current groups just in case.

MemberI can’t get my group forums to work now. Whenever I try to post something I get this message “Are you sure you want to do this?” and only the option to “please try again” I’ve deleted my old groups and created new ones as well.

Participantand to whom it may concern; these kind of errors are discouraging. If we had a decent buddypress alternative we would have switched already. $bp related errors* and errors that belong to the core, very demotivating as they are making our whole system unstable.
We spend hours first on the system try to find what’s wrong, and hours on internet try to find if anyone else has a fix.
