Save file.
B. CREATE a blank file and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php
Do not add anything in it.
Getting back to this issue
`
You add the filter (and associated hook) in your functions.php file
`
I’m using the Frisco theme so here is the functions.php
Github – https://github.com/davidtcarson/frisco/blob/master/functions.php
Pastebin – http://pastebin.com/2gyXjCnK
So I need to ‘hook’ the filter onto one of those hooks that bp_insert_activity_meta provides .
I’m currently trying to find out were to insert this hook in the Frisco functions.php file
Here’s the custom hook
`
add_filter( ‘bp_activity_time_since’, strftime ($time,’l jS of F Y h:i:s A’,);
`
Obviously this function isn’t going to work but I’m trying to get the bigger idea,
I’m doing this on my Localhost using Mamp so I can just work by trial and error.
C. COPY footer.php and Save As > footer-buddypress.php file
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and at the very TOP of the file above all other code, add:
`
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});
`
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php and footer-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/minimosity/ in the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are
D. Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.
== adjusting custom themes to use BP has become somewhat of a service on this forum but we look forward to 1.7 dropping ==
@hnla it was more of a mission on my part to do this lightweight work on the front end while you guys do the heavy lifting on the back end
And yes, I am looking forward to BP 1.7
== however this is really making me feel sad ==
@zeecc don’t feel sad. Initial scan shows that we might be able to get away with creating only 3 files instead of revising 16 template files. I say this because if 3 files don’t work, we have to go the 16 files route. Having said that, I’m 99% sure the 3 files will do it for your theme.
We will create three new files, header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php and footer-buddypress.php to make your theme compatible with BP.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your minimosity theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your minimosity theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
`
Save file.
B. CREATE a blank file and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php
Do not add anything in it.
I am also interested in this.
Guys, I am a newbie but I found this functionality in plugin “BP Posts on Profile” – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-posts-on-profile/
It’s two years old, but it works.
FYI, it displays post links as per their WordPress loop presentation (ie. large headline and excerpt, per the BP Default theme) rather than with smaller text as though in the Activity stream.
@mercime isn’t the only ‘expert’ but adjusting custom themes to use BP has become somewhat of a service on this forum but we look forward to 1.7 dropping
.
Before mercime does have to dive in to help you out have you actually run through the template pack process as outlined in the BP codex and attempted to get things working, it helps in advance to know what has been tried.
@cristian-mihai Initial scan shows that you might only need to create 2 files for BP compatibility. What’s the name of the theme? Theme demo URl? Need to double-check.
the button is hidden until you click inside the textarea. JavaScript is used to show button. Are you using the BP-default theme?
@mercime I tried going through the installation wizard again while on Twenty Eleven theme, but when I get to Theme, the page still shows a complete blank. After that, I uninstalled and reinstalled BP in case the problem was caused by an improper BP installation. Also tried to switch to the BP default theme before running installation wizard. Same problem still. Do you know what else could be causing such an issue?
Hello,
i am searching round the web ,but i didn´t find the answer for my problem. Suddenly when i activate the custom cumminty theme in buddy press i became this error.
Warning: Creating default object from empty value in J:xampphtdocswordpresswp-contentthemescustom-communitycoreincludesbpbuddydev-search.php on line 49
I hope someone could help me, i am using wordpress 3.4.2 and buddypress 1.6.
Should i post some pagefiles here?
Many thank´s
Frank
Your device may not work with certain mobilized themes or plugins. Most mobile options require a WebKit based browser.
@nicholmikey You can make a WP theme compatible with BP by installing/activating the BP template pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP compatibility process.
– the process at a glance with some “template-packed” WP themes near bottom of page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
– a recently “template-packed” artisteer theme https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/bp-compatibility-plugin-with-an-artisteer-theme/
B. COPY sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php file
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and at the very TOP of the file above all other code, add:
``
Keep the file open, and at the very BOTTOM of the file below all other code, add:
`
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});
`
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/themorningafter/ in the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are
@hnla BP 1.7 after Xmas/New Year break I hope
@jacques24 You only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to make your theme compatible with BP.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your themorningafter theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your themorningafter theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
`<?php
global $woo_options;
get_template_part( ‘top-banner’ );
?>
Save file.
== but the menu title is still the same – ‘Blogs’ ==
What theme are you using? Just to clarify which dropdown “menu” are you referring to – the one from the admin bar or in main navigation (where btw you can change the name blogs in Appearance > Menus if your theme supports custom menu)?
1.7 was supposed to be a relatively quick release cycle, but doubt it will be released before the year is out.
@Hugo do you all have a round about launch date for BP 1.7? In the meantime I will revisit the steps you suggested to see what happens. @mercime Please see below
Header – http://pastebin.com/33gFJAQ6
Page,php – http://pastebin.com/vm0qF1g4
footer.php – http://pastebin.com/t53hb4c6
Index.php – http://pastebin.com/JCE7YisZ
Sidebar.php – http://pastebin.com/yMQe6TGZ
Thank you all for your help..
Hi @mercime
Aside from the final tweak mentioned above… given the effort to make it all work so far… should I avoid adding further plugins such as listed in the plugins directory on here, or… should they all integrate without any problems now we’ve fixed the theme compatibility issues?
I’m thinking about things such as a login box, removing the WordPress bar from the top of the pages for anyone other than site administrators, adding one of the event management plugins, etc.
Basically… I don’t want to have to keep asking you for help ever time I try to add something new.
Many Thanks,
Ronnie.
This is really a question for the theme in question, this forum is really meant to be for help with BP and it’s default theme.
But I see that you have already asked this exact same question :
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/frisco-theme-sidebar-of-width-300
So I suggest that you wait for a reply from that post firstly, cross posting the same question on multiple forums is considered a bad practise, if the theme author cannot help after a reasonable period then ask the question here or on other tech forums that might be able to help.
@jacques24 open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, paste to pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files. TMA’s demo in woothemes.com is not working, so if you have a URI of a site with TMA activated, that would be good for my reference.
What have you attempted when you say it “doesn’t merge well”?
Have you started the template pack process as outlined in the BP codex guides, if not that’s where you must start.
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
if the theme is too awkward to integrate with BP then choosing a more compatible theme is wise and there are many that have been run through the template pack process and listed in the codex for you to choose from, alternatively Woo do produce a theme or themes? that are BP compatible you might want to consider one of those?
http://www.woothemes.com/2011/11/canvas-buddypress-gets-a-revamp/
If you can wait for BP 1.7 to be delivered then that will ease the process as it is theme compatible in that it will run with any well coded theme on activation.
Lastly I’m sure @mercime will help if you’re really stuck as mercime has with other themes but please bear in mind that this is a relatively complex process and time consuming.
Ok, decided to download poedit and create a .po and .mo file, then uploaded to root/wp-content/languages/…
The .po file automatically created a .mo file upon close, but the file size of the .mo is only 565 compared to 156,145 for the .po file – makes me think I did not generate correctly.
Also, changed ‘blogs’ to ‘network’ in root/wp-content/themes/yourthemename/blogs/index.php on line 14 –
It looks like a lot of the language changes are there but the menu title is still the same – ‘Blogs’
Hi, mercime:
Thanks for your reply.
– I installed Events Manager to my local testing site and then BP. First, the theme (not WP default theme) and Events Manager conflicts with JavaScript, then I solved this issue for turning off the theme JavaScript. But, after installed BP, the same conflict issue comes again – like I mentioned on my first post above. And, I also have the same issue with the other one (got “post” link, but when you typed something and click the “post”, it kept telling you error, and not doing anything).
– I installed BP theme pack, but the issues are still there.
– The “join group” link issued was happened HERE – BuddyPress.org, I tried to join “Events Manager” group, but it won’t work. This issue is nothing to do on my site, just wondering why it did not allow me to join the group, so I can post questions under that group as well.
– My WP version is 3.4.2, BP version is 1.6.1, Events Manager 5.2.8, Single site, local machine runs Windows.
So, what should I do now, or if you still need more details? Please let me know, I really appreciate your help. Thank you.
Hi @mercime
So close now…
Take a look at: http://www.liveanddangerous.co.uk/wptest/members/testy/profile/
I’d like the background colour for the navigation menus and the profile fields to be either black, or better still, transparent.
Is this possible? I’ve looked over the style sheet etc, but can’t find the function for this. If I view the source code for the page above, I can see the instruction for the background to be ‘rgb(254, 254, 254)’, but… can’t find that instruction anywhere in the css.
If I can fix that, then… I believe… we’re done.
Thanks,
Ronnie.
@mercime I am on a single install. it’s on hostgator running linux. I have tried switching to other themes and replacing BP and issue prevails. I’ve never had this issue with other 1.6.1 installs so I am wondering if something in my db is screwed up?

@archer09 first, keep BuddyPress activated and change to Twenty Eleven theme. Then click on the Installation Wizard again and go through the process. When you reach the point for theme choice, choose BP Default theme first as you can always activate Sahifa theme later. After you finish with the wizard, keep on BP Default theme and test your BP installation. When you’re satisfied that everything’s working well, then change to Sahifa theme.
