Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from `

where applicable, then move this to above `
Save files.
B. At the bottom of the same 16 files, replace:
`

with the following (except for registration/register.php):
`
`
with the following for registration/register.php:
`
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});
`
Save files.
C. Upload the 6 BP folders containing the 16 files you’ve just revised to your server wp-content/themes/esplanade/
D. Copy the style modifications made in BP Twenty Ten at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste to your theme’s stylesheet. Adjust to taste.
@infodebroekriemnl Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you need to change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your esplanade theme folder in server during the compatibility process.
If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your esplanade theme folder in server, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.
Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.
A. At the top of each of those 16 template files I linked to above, replace
`
with the following:
`
Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from `
` or `
` to
`
`
where applicable, then move this to above `
Save files.
If it’s just the link at the menu item, you can just edit the page name and slug in page edit panel, then go to Settings> Pages and choose the new blog menu name from select box and click on Save. You know you’d also have to change title of the Blogs Directory page in yoursite.com/wp-content/themes/yourthemename/blogs/index.php in this line
@ronnie_fantastic Looking good.
1. Missing BuddyPress styles: Go to Appearance > BP Compatibility. and uncheck “Disable BP Template Pack CSS”
– you need the BP template pack CSS to properly align the BuddyPress sections.
2. Enable registration: Go to Settings > General and look for the line where you allow registration (it’s off by default)
3. “It has what looks like a 2 cell table with ‘Base’ written above it and the name/username within”
– This is the Profile page and it shows profile fields. BP Codex is your friend https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/
Hi @mercime I’m using the Sahifa theme as well. Followed the instructions above precisely but still seem to be having problems getting BP up and running. Specifically:
1. When going through BP installation wizard, the 4th step “Theme” never loads. It just shows a completely blank space below the Components/Pages/Permalinks, etc. tabs. This doesn’t seem right…
2. While in the Theme tab, if I ignore that there’s just blank space and click “save & next” to complete the installation wizard, I still get the “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page” message when trying to click on BP Settings under Plugins.
How can I fix this to get BP running properly?
For background, I’m running on WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.6.1
Thanks.
Re Events Manager plugin -> please go to https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/events-manager then click on the Support link and post the errors showing up when you activate Events Manager with BP on. Do provide more information about your installation for the plugin dev
Re “join group” link -> is this issue related to Events Manager? If not, have you checked whether this is a theme issue (change to bp-default) or another plugin conflict?
WP/BP versions? Single/multisite? where are you hosted? Windows/Linux?
Hi @mercime
Looking at the link below… it looks like it’s almost there…
http://www.liveanddangerous.co.uk/wptest/members/ronnie-fantastic/
I just have one (probably dumb) question… how do I enabled registration? Going to the registration page: http://www.liveanddangerous.co.uk/wptest/register/ shows ‘User registration is currently not allowed.’
I can’t seem to find the setting to enable registration.
Oh… I lied… one other question… take a look at the bottom of a profile page such as http://www.liveanddangerous.co.uk/wptest/members/ronnie-fantastic/profile/
It has what looks like a 2 cell table with ‘Base’ written above it and the name/username within. What is this, and if it’s not an included element that needs to be displayed… is there a way to remove it?
Finally… thank you so much for your help so far. I sincerely appreciate it.
Regards,
Ronnie.
Thank you Paul,
finally found it in /members/single/home.php.
i am using default bp theme but got me dizzy till i found it.
Thanks again
It ought to be possible to edit your theme and take the menu calls out. The item-nav class is used in a few places, but if you do a find-in-files on your theme, you should be able to track down the correct one from the other markup nearby.
Hi there. Thank you for responding.
It is the Group Forum and yes white/blank pages everywhere. That part is now fixed. Had to rename my plugins folder, create a new one and troubleshoot by adding back all my plugins one at a time. Never found the killer. I also changed my theme, so it could have been that.
I figured out somehow what was causing the loop and that is fixed, though I really don’t know how I did it.
B. CREATE a blank sidebar-buddypress.php file
Open up the blank sidebar-buddypress.php and add content from:
– http://pastebin.com/W7tT40tw
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/ronnie_fantastic/ in the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are
D. Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.
@ronnie_fantastic thanks for following up. You will only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php instead of changing 16 template files.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your ronnie_fantastic theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your ronnie_fantastic theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add code from:
– http://pastebin.com/DYBuCJe0
Save file.
@laprek please start a new topic for your yootheme downtown theme and post the links to the files I requested from free3dart above. We’ll see.
You can use a responsive WordPress theme and install the BP Template Pack plugin to make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress. We have a list of “template-packed” WP themes at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes. This is the route you should take if you’re planning to launch your site this month or early next month. There’s still BP 1.6.2 coming out sometime December https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/roadmap and no set schedule as to when BP 1.7 is coming out yet.
@ant01 BP Codex is your friend

I suggest that you use BP Default theme while you’re setting up BuddyPress and test driving to see if everything is working as expected. If all’s well, then you focus on the theme:
– create a child theme of BP Default theme OR
– choose a WP theme and install BP Template pack plugin and go through BP compatibility process. We have a list of “template-packed” WP themes at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes OR
– choose a free or paid ready-made BP child theme OR
– choose a free or paid BP-ready/compatible WordPress theme
@mistichd site crash as in white/blank pages or cannot access wp-admin? https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/blank-pages/
Which forum are you referring to – Group Forum topic or Sitewide forum topic? Have you tried changing to bp-default theme and deactivating other plugins except BP
Are you on single or multisite installation? If multisite, is BP on main site (default) or defined/installed in subsite? Where are you hosted? Have you tried deactivating BP and re-uploading BP manually i.e. via FTP/cpanel/file manager, then activating BP and BP Default theme to check if issue is resolved?
Hi @mercime
Was that what you needed, just the home page of the site I’m working on?
Thanks,
Ronnie.
I have the same problem with my yootheme downtown theme. Have you sorted the issue?
@modemlooper Thank you for your response.
Any idea about when BP 1.7 is coming?
Actually I am in a hurry and want to have the site(s) online within a week or so.
The sites don’t have to be fancy but need to be launched soon. I thought of choosing social theme because I am afraid of making lots of changes again if I choose a different theme later.
“BuddyPress 1.7 is coming soon and will work on any WordPress theme. If you are not in a hurry you might want to choose a responsive WordPress theme”
Are you saying that all the regular wordpress themes will work fine with buddypress/multisite/multi-network environment when BP 1.7 comes?
Are there any BP responsive themes that I can choose from at this moment?
Please advise. Thank you.
BuddyPress 1.7 is coming soon and will work on any WordPress theme. If you are not in a hurry you might want to choose a responsive WordPress theme
The BP codex is your friend, please start by reading through all the user / beginner docs there.
You will probably need to use the template pack for making BP compatible with a third party theme, there are detailed guides and steps to take in the codex as well as a comprehensive list of themes already run through the process.
You do need some very basic skills though, the ability to read , copy/paste html and PHP is a necessity and a general understanding of the files you are dealing with.
There is a learning curve involved and wanting to integrate BP into a thir party theme while not actually hard does appear confusing for novices and some patience has to be applied.
Give things a go though before calling on mercimes services (obviously this forum is not actually a service
) as mercime is being inundated with these requests.
Or if you can hang on BP 1.7 will solve this theme issue by becoming automagically compatible with any theme chosen.
@infodebroekriemnl we’ll continue with the support in this thread. Initial scan shows that you would need to change 16 files for Step 3 of the BP Compatibility process.
The Esplanade Theme Demo at http://demo.onedesigns.com/esplanade/ shows default page layout is “Sidebar Content Split”. Is that what you want for all your BP component pages or something else from the list of Page Templates in the demo?
What theme are you using?
