In reply to: multisite installation?
@mercime
Participant== Run the set up there ==
Make sure that you’ve set Pretty Permalinks at Settings > Permalinks. Then activate BuddyPress and go through the installation Wizard https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/buddypress-1-5-installation-wizard/== make the site dogs choose the buddypresss theme ==
Say what? Choose theme by the number of barks?
BuddyPress will be installed in main site by default. You should have a BuddyPress-compatible theme or your own bp-default child theme installed there. If you allow blog creation by members for your multisite installation, then you should upload theme/s which your “dogs” can choose the themes for their respective blogs/subsites.

Member“Lastly, this feature does not automatically add itself unless you are using Hybrid, Thesis, or Thematic. For other themes, you will have to add the following code in your loop”:
`<?php if ( function_exists('yoast_breadcrumb') ) {
yoast_breadcrumb(‘‘,’
‘);
} ?>`January 18, 2012 at 8:04 am #128181In reply to: Customizing Activity Stream
@mercime
Participant#1 – build a child theme of bp-default,
– copy over https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.3.1/bp-themes/bp-default/activity/entry.php following the directory structure i.e. childthemefolder/activity/entry.php
– open up entry.php and delete lines 64 – 78 and Save file.#2 – renaming labels – https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

@mercime
ParticipantYou might need to update your theme. Change to bp-default theme, clear cache and check if issue is resolved.

MemberWP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.3.1 — Check

Linux serverRe: group/stand-alone — I installed stand-alone so that I could get some data for the DB. I thought if I just imported some existing data it might change something. I installed bbPress stand alone, created a topic or two with a post or two, exported all the data to a SQL file, changed then prefixes of the tables, and inserted it into the buddyPress/bbPress tables, then deleted the stand-alone installation. Through phpMyAdmin, there were clearly records in the tables; buddypress still said there were no forums, and I was still unable to create any forum post. I’ve since also deleted all records from the wp_bb_XXX tables.
Current forum setup: “Forums for Groups” installed (under “Forums” tab at buddypress admin); Sitewide forums NOT installed; NO other plugins; default theme; everything is as Plain Jane as humanly possible. Still, same errors on submitting new forum topic: either: “This group doesn’t have a forum set up yet.” or “Please pick the group forum where you would like to post this topic” (which of course I did).
January 17, 2012 at 12:22 am #128103In reply to: Registration Security Question Removal
@mercime
ParticipantThere’s no registration security question in a default BuddyPress installation so the security question in your theme is not a BP problem. Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme and you’ll find that there’s none at all.

@mercime
ParticipantSanity check:
– WP 3.3.1 and BP 1.5.3.1?
– WP and BP installed at domain root?
– You have changed to bp-default theme and deactivated all plugins except BuddyPress?
– You want group forums so you don’t need the stand-alone forums installed and messing up with installation. Or are you trying to make the stand-alone forums work as group forums?
– Linux or Windows server?January 16, 2012 at 10:41 pm #128094miguelcortereal
ParticipantThanks a lot mercime
Yes I need assistance. The child theme is created. I can even give you login data to get you in if you need.Would you please drop me an e-mail????
January 16, 2012 at 6:42 pm #128079@mercime
ParticipantYou should build a child theme for bp-default so your customizations won’t be overwritten when you upgrade BuddyPress https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
You’d add the new styles In your child theme’s stylesheet. If you need assistance, site url?

@mercime
ParticipantYour BP pages like activity, members, groups, etc. look unstyled as well. Unfortunately, artisteer-generated themes are the d-v-l to customize. No shortcodes at this time. Probably in the future.

ParticipantForgot to say what I’m using:
Wordpress 3.3.1
Buddypress 1.5.3.1 with default theme
bbpress 2.0.2
GD Attachments 1.5.3January 16, 2012 at 2:52 pm #128066aces
ParticipantThe latest buddypress ( with bp-default theme ) can use the default wordpress menu, which is under appearance section of admin.
Some web hosting requires an extra plugin for email. https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ has a useful feature that displays debugging information when sending a test email. Another plugin is suggested in https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/frequently-asked-questions/

MemberI will be surprised if GoDaddy cooperates with BuddyPress at all. I am currently working on another WordPress site that moves like molasses with GoDaddy. Fortunately for them their hosting/domain expires in a month so they can easily change hosting providers. In the case of where I am planning to install BuddyPress it looks like they have a long time left until GoDaddy ends. I probably will have to figure out other solutions to optimize WordPress and BuddyPress if it’s real slow.
Thanks for the advice about building a child theme!

MemberWP and BP are most recent versions. WP is installed in a directory named wordpress. When I look at the register page from dashboard>pages it shows the link as being “/register”. This is happening with the default theme.
I am thinking about removing and reinstalling BP. Maybe it was something I did?
January 15, 2012 at 8:18 pm #128001In reply to: Using BuddyPress for a Running Team?
@mercime
Participant“if GoDaddy can handle it” is the operative phrase. At a certain point, you’d have to upgrade from shared hosting to VPS/Cloud etc.
== would I be better off sticking with the default theme and customizing it for now? ==
I recomment that you build a child theme of bp-default theme instead and customize all you want from there.

MemberGreat! I am thinking of also using it to create blogs for each of the runners and volunteers if GoDaddy can handle it. Also, would I be better off sticking with the default theme and customizing it for now?

January 14, 2012 at 10:53 pm #127986In reply to: BP Theme Compatibility – Step Three Help
@mercime
ParticipantIn your situation where you mentioned you didn’t change the BP template files at all, you can’t hook into div#content as your theme already has it – the one which renders grey background between your content and sidebar. You could hook into `div.padder` and add this to your stylsheet:
`div.padder {
background-color: #fff;
padding: 20px;
}`BuddyPress generates body classes for each component/specific BP pages. Check out body classes generated https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.3.1/bp-core/bp-core-template.php#L1482

@mercime
ParticipantIf your BP theme or bp-default child theme doesn’t have one yet, copy over https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.3.1/bp-themes/bp-default/groups/single/activity.php to your theme folder following the directory structure, i.e. yourthemefolder/groups/single/
Open up activity.php file and delete the following lines:

Are you using custom BP theme or is this also happening when you switch to bp-default theme?
