MemberOk. Here’s the update. Server checks out with proper versions of PHP and MySQL. Latest version of both WP and BP. Mod_Rewrite is functioning. Proper directories are writeable. WP is fully functional. Raw install… no other plugins active. Default theme. Looked through error log (nothing showed up). I’m stumped. Still getting the same error.
Server tech guy says “I looked through the logs also, and did not see any errors in the error log either. I also saw that the request for ‘/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s=’ returned 200, which means OK, so that is a bit weird.”
Any insight is supremely appreciated.

Participant== copied the “register” sidebar from the function.php file of twenty ten and added it to the buddypress default theme function file ==
So you had to copy the function to register the sidebar from functions.php file of twentyten. Could be that not all files were uploaded properly to server when you installed BuddyPress. I didn’t have to copy anything when I tested fishbook theme or any bp-default child theme.
At this point, it would be beneficial on your end if you download a fresh copy of BuddyPress https://buddypress.org/download/ and re-upload the files manually (FTP/cpanel/etc) to wp-content/plugins/buddypress/ just to make sure that all files have been uploaded.

@mercime
ParticipantNo worries. And yeah, pastebin is cool

At top of activity/index.php, replace
``
with
``At the bottom of that file, replace
``
with
``
In addition, you might like to change the header tag used in BP template files to match your theme’s. So for activity/index.php, change
``
to
``

MemberThanks for your replies, i did try this but couldnt find the problem.
To solve the problem i copied the twenty ten sidebar.php and put that in to buddypress default theme, then copied the “register” sidebar from the function.php file of twenty ten and added it to the buddypress default theme function file. and hay presto it is working.
Hope it helps someone else if need.

Participant1. Create a child theme of bp-default
– https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/2. Copy header.php from bp-default and paste in your child theme folder.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.2.8/bp-themes/bp-default/header.php3. Open up header.php in your child theme folder. In the area below and insert the code in bold below.

ParticipantOpen up your WP theme’s page.php with text editor.
Copy what’s in it and paste the code at http://pastebin.com and click on “submit” link.
That webpage will now have a new URI. Copy that URI and paste it here.June 11, 2011 at 6:56 am #114335In reply to: [Resolved] Avatars Don’t Show – WP 3.1.3 + BP 1.2.8

I’ve disabled all plugins and rolled it over to the default theme. How do I clear the cache?

Participant@boonebgorges I agree with you. Fortunately, new version of Platform theme (1.3) has been submitted in WP theme review queue and author has removed “buddypress” tag when I checked it. I guess he “heard” you

@mercime
ParticipantTo troubleshoot, deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme. You will note that sidebar widgets will not disappear when you move from one BP component to the other. Then activate fishbook theme, then plugins one at a time to determine what is causing erratic behavior in your site.
June 11, 2011 at 2:03 am #114326In reply to: bbpress forums / sidebar. Need Help Please! :)
@mercime
Participant@jonobradley two points mainly:
1. Platform theme should not have been tagged buddypress at all. I agree with Boone – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/cant-get-to-bp-from-wp/#post-100830
2. As to the HTML part. Since you want to use that theme, you would have to check theme’s
– header.php (from up to what HTML tag is covered by this file) and
– footer.php ( from what HTML tag to closing is covered by this file) then
– look at source code of your site online, copy it and delete HTML covered by header.php then delete HTML covered by footer.php
– delete content area and what remains is the markup you will be using to impose on BP template pack files transferred to your active WP theme folder in server.Since theme author has deigned to tag his theme as “buddypress” he should provide documentation on how it could truly be BuddyPress-compatible.

Member@hal9000 to get alternating colors on any of your loops (activity, members, groups, blog listings, forums, whatever)… using this code (uses CSS3)
li { background: green; }
li:nth-child(odd) { background: red; }more specifically:
in the default.css stylesheet of the buddypress default theme… you should find on line 396:
ul.item-list li {
position: relative;
padding: 15px 0;
border-bottom: 1px solid #eaeaea;
}replace that with this:
ul.item-list li {
position: relative;
padding: 15px 0;
border-bottom: none;
background: green;
}ul.item-list li:nth-child(odd) {
background: red;
}and wolla!! ofcourse… please change the red and green to the colors of your theme… also, if you need it specifically for members, or groups, etc… then in the source code of each page , for eg, in groups, it is under a particular id: groups-list… put the styles under that id and so on.. hope that makes sense to you.

ParticipantLooking at that page I can see straight away that #sidebar is nested inside #left-column, compare that to one of your non BP pages e.g index.php or page.php and you’ll see the difference, always compare a non bp with a bp to see how the structure needs to run and obviously the BP pages must follow the structure of your themes WP files. #sidebar must come after you have closed the left-column as each is floated left and right respectively.

ParticipantNot clear whether you answered DJPaul – Did you look inside your wp-content/uploads/ folder to see if the images are being saved?
Deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme, clear cache. Check if avatars show up in front end. If not, upload avatar and see if it was properly uploaded in server –> wp-content/uploads/

@mercime
ParticipantSo I see you installed the BP Template Pack plugin.
You still need to go through the compatibility process as seen here https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
An example of how this is done https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/

Sure you can. Install the BP Template Pack plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/
This is the process you will go through – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

MemberI’m having similar troubles. I’ve gone through the pre-install checklist, and my server is up to par and my WP install works perfectly. In an effort to keep it clean, I’m using the latest version of WP 3.1.3 with no other plugins/themes/mods/anything. I can install the plugin, but when I activate I get this:
“Safari can’t open the page “http://mywebsite.org/wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=all&paged=1&s=” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.”
At this point, the site itself and admin area are totally inaccessible. If I manually delete (or change the name) of the buddypress plugin in the plugins folder, all is returned to normal.
I’ve searched high and low and am not sure where to look. Any help is truly appreciated. THANK YOU!
