In reply to: can i integrate buddypress forum into my site?
@mercime
ParticipantYes you can. However, installing BuddyPress only for the forum feature alone is overkill if you’re not going use the social networking components of the plugin. The BuddyPress internal bbPress forums are associated to groups by default. I would suggest that you install a WP or WP-compatible forum plugin or software like:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/forum-server/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mingle-forum/
http://simple-press.com/
or integrate external bbPress plugin with your WordPress site.If you do intend to use BuddyPress components plus the forums, before you install and activate BuddyPress, you would need to make your WordPress theme compatible with BuddyPress via BP Template Pack plugin or by building a child theme of bp-default theme that comes with BuddyPress plugin first. If you are going the first theme route – BP template pack – then you could add the necessary link to your BP components including forums by adding the links listed in ul#nav seen here

@mercime
Participant=== I’ve made a custom template for the website’s front page and the widgets do not seem fully functional. ===
In your new front page template are you sure that you registered your sidebar/s in your custom theme’s functions.php and did you add the necessary dynamic sidebar tags in your template file?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/dynamic_sidebarMarch 14, 2011 at 8:18 am #107734WWDay3
ParticipantOK. So, is there a way to generically modify functions.php (like another WordPress hook or whatever) so that if I change themes the code you gave me would not “go away”. Or, would I have to make the same changes in a new theme if I decided to use it?
March 14, 2011 at 4:50 am #107723WWDay3
ParticipantMan, this makes very little sense to me.
I want to insulate all of my members from any WordPress panels. So far, THE only place I see the problem occurring is when a user types in a bad profile/password. In that case he/she is taken to the “wiggling” login page. I looked at a couple ajax login plugins, but they don’t really “replace” the default login.
Shouldn’t BP have an option to turn off the default login? Or maybe have it set up so that the default login widget is a pre-installed widget that could be removed/replaced?

Memberthis a fresh install. I installed wordpress 3.0.5 from Yahoo web hosting. Then it said new version is available i upgraded it to 3.1
Then I installed plugins. buddypress 1.2.8
use the default buddypress theme.
Yahoo saves all the files in the blog folder (wp-admin, wp-content, wp-includes).
Buddypress folder was automatically saved or installed under wp-content/plugins
By default everything is enable, private messaging, extended profile and friend connections. I didnt change any settings.
There is a link for these features on the admin bar but the messages, profiles and friend connections will just redirect me to members directory. Although the address on the link shows the proper link to messages, profiles.
@mercime
Participant1. Users join the site
Yes, whether you use BuddyPress or not.2. Ability to upload one image and other users comment on it.
– If you post an image in blog Post/Page – members can comment on the image if you enable comments.
– If you mean upload image via BuddyPress image plugin, then you should check out the free BP media plugins .
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/video-playlist-and-gallery-plugin/
I have only used BP Gallery (premium) and yes, you can comment on any single image, audio or video upload with this plugin.3. Friends and Followers
Yes. Friends is default install. Followers via BuddyPress Followers plugin4. Show recent uploads
Of images or media, right? In activity stream – not sure about the first two plugins; you have the option to show (or not) recent uploads in activity stream using BP Gallery.
In a sidebar widget or directory page – I believe all of the 3 mentioned plugins have this capability.March 13, 2011 at 9:59 pm #107710In reply to: Disabling buddypress theme.

ParticipantScroll to the bottom of your WordPress sidebar where you’ll see a link labeled “Theme Settings”. Click on it, then under the “Buddypress” tab, you’ll see an option to turn the login sidebar on or off.

KeymasterI believe this is to do with the changed UI of multisite admin on WP 3.1. Ask for pointers on the wordpress.org forums.

Member“What versions of WP/BP are you using?” WordPress 3.0.1 / Buddypress 1.2.7
“You’re saying your found two rows per user in prefix_users table?” Yes..
“In those two rows per user, do they both have same email address and username? Are there any differences?” Yes, there are some differences…
1. The user password looks to be encrypted differently for both rows.
2. User status in the first row is “0” and the second row is “2”
3. The first row has a user display name and the second row doesn’t.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterWelcome Pack hasn’t been updated in a very long time. There are technical issues around why, on multisite, even if you change the hook to network_admin_menu, the settings don’t save (WordPress bug).
I haven’t had time to update Welcome Pack since last version, and I have had other priorities. I am working on a new version, and I’d like to get out an interim release to fix the compatibility problems, but again that’s dependant on other priorities I have and how much time I can free up.

So, the plugin “WELCOME PACK”, written for YOU, and not working for this reason is not well-written?
I’ve read about the solution in other forums of changing “admin_menu” to “network_admin_menu” to make reappear the plugin menu, but it’s only there. You can’t change settings.
I tried this solution changing “options.php” to “../options.php” and the error changes, WordPress says that there’s no options file.
Are you reading this?: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/welcome-pack/forum/topic/welcome-pack-not-working-after-latest-update/
@ZKWC even offered you money for the job, but you don’t give any answer.
I guess you don’t know about this change from admin_menu to network_admin_menu Or you should have told us to do it.
I’m not a programmer but I guess that you know the little change we have to do to save the settings in that options file, no?
What we have to do to get an answer from you?
Please not:
-“wait for 1.3” (that could happen in october)
-“I need money” (I need money too, but I think that offering a free plugin, and when a lot of people is using it, request for money to maintain it, it’s not a good idea. Thinkin on your reputation)
Sorry for my bad english.March 12, 2011 at 10:43 pm #107649In reply to: Trac login – does not work
@mercime
ParticipantCurious, did you get your username and login here at BuddyPress.org or at WordPress.org – don’t know if it makes a difference. I got mine at WordPress.org years ago and I can login to different WP/BP tracs.

ParticipantFew things for posting on this forum.
When you ask for support, it would be best for you to provide as *much* information as possible to help us out. Posting just one sentence does not give us any information on anything, and would most likely diminish your chances of getting support, and it will delay solving your issue.
If you don’t say what theme your using, I am going to assume that it’s not a buddypress issue, and redirect you to the wordpress support forums: https://www.wordpress.org/support
if you are using default theme, look at the header and specify your preferences there.

ParticipantWell what you would be looking and searching for is a “Linkedin and WordPress Connection” , because Buddypress Login is actually WordPress.
It would require for you to do some searching around to see if a plugin exists. It does not look like it though at the moment.
March 12, 2011 at 8:10 pm #107638In reply to: Searching the Codex is broken
Dr. Ron Suarez
ParticipantI did research it in the WordPress Codex, Google and even the Wikipedia. I am not perfect, so maybe I missed something.
The process of installing the BuddyPress plugin makes the role options for adding a new user change from
“Subscriber, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor” to
“Subscriber, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, Key Master, Moderator, Member, Inactive, Blocked”I currently suspect that the roles are related to bbPress. However, Google says: “Your search – “key master” site:bbpress.org/documentation/ – did not match any documents.”
All of the posts at the Google search for “key master” site:bbpress.org/ seem to be one to two years old, pre-date BuddyPress integration with the regular WordPress vs MU and while they discuss Key Master, nobody says what a “Key Master” does. The Wikiedia does not offer any help as to what a “Key Master” is. I am sorry that I missed the meeting to learn the secret BuddyPress handshake and learn these things. I am truly trying to be a part of this community Forum. And to the extent people can help me to learn stuff, I promise to give back to the community and help with writing to the codex.
In addition to researching the Forum, Google and the Wikipedia, I also did some empirical testing. We created a new user and when adding a new user and choosing from the list of roles, “Subscriber, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, Key Master, Moderator, Member, Inactive, Blocked” we chose Moderator. That new user now seems to have “Administrator” privileges. After demoting the new user from “Moderator” to “Member” that new user seems to have “Contributor” privileges.
BuddyPress also uses the term “Moderator” inside what I believe is the scope of a single Group Forum. I am guessing that the same word is being used for two very different things, which is not good.
A Usability Note:
When the “add new user” event in the WordPress dashboard offers the person logged in the opportunity to pick only one choice from the list: “Subscriber, Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, Key Master, Moderator, Member, Inactive, Blocked” what is implied is that the roles are mutually exclusive, i.e. you are one or the other. The standard WordPress roles hierarchically added more privileges, which made sense. But the new list makes little sense and the interface needs to be changed or at least explained as a workaround, so people will know what to do.March 12, 2011 at 6:33 pm #107632In reply to: Searching the Codex is broken

ParticipantHow about instead of just going to the forums to ask a simple question, you research it first? Always research before you ask on here, because 99% of the time, the question has already been answered in the past.
Please just add comments if you’re actually adding information (signal vs. noise) to help this Forum be a better place for everyone
Hnla was giving you a hint, and elbow nudge to search on google for your answer, not be “snarky”. Sorry you couldn’t comprehend was was being given to you

From my knowledge, buddypress does not add ANY more roles to wordpress. SO, wordpress codex would be the place to go to learn about roles, and Paul Gibbs would give you the same exact answer.
He seems to be someone who should know the answers.
Boy, I could actually hear the slap in the face.

ParticipantClothes retailers I’ve seen in passing using WordPress install e-commerce plugins with or without BuddyPress. Check out some fashion sites using BP at http://www.bpinspire.com/high-quality-buddypress-sites/fashion. There’s also relatively “young” BuddyPress retailer shop riotcart.com which uses BuddyPress in a section of the site http://www.riotcart.com/groups.

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-documents/ which hasn’t been updated since May 2010
or https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-docs/ connected to groups which has just been updated Feb 2011?March 12, 2011 at 10:42 am #107610In reply to: Trac login – does not work

KeymasterI’ve just tried, and it is working fine for me. I assume you have, but try re-opening your browser and checking for capital letters. You could also test logging into https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ as that should work, too.

Don’t move the wordpress directory! If you need to reinstall WordPress in the root directory, do it from scratch!

MemberYesterday I re-installed wordpress 3.1. I go to plugin and search for buddypress and then install it from there, I am assuming this gets me the latest version. At that time I did enable permalink.
What I do is I mv wordpress /var/www/html/.
How can I tell if re-write is working or debug this problem.

KeymasterDid you enable pretty permalinks like mercime suggested? Are you using the latest version of BP?
Did you install WordPress in a subdirectory with these instructions?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_DirectoryIf so, there are bugs with BP 1.2.8 relating to subdirectory installs.
