ParticipantHi Jeff,
Thanks for your feedback, here are my answers. My site is huwai.com.tw
1. 2.7.1
2. no, fresh install of 2.7.1
3. yes
4. 1.0
5. yes
6. yes, bp-dev plugins, fb-connect, google analytics and a couple of other wpmu plugins like plugin commander, toggle admin menues, simple dashboard, blog defaults, etc.
7. Shouty theme
8. the error log has over 1,400 entries, most of them this:
WordPress database error Query was empty for query made by require, require_once, include, dynamic_sidebar, call_user_func_array, bp_core_widget_members, bp_core_get_userlink, bp_fetch_user_fullname, xprofile_set_field_data, BP_XProfile_ProfileData->save
Note: before I freshly installed 2.7.1 and bp 1.0 I used older version of both for testing. I didn’t have this error message then, but group avatar upload didn’t work as well.

Since Donncha’s WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin (aka the sunrise domain plugin) allows you to map a blog to another domain, this could be the issue. I would post on the WPMU forum or, better yet, contact Donncha directly to ask for his assistance. http://ocaoimh.ie/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
This is beyond scope of the BuddyPress support forums.

Where did you get this Featured Members widget version? It does not look like mine.
My Featured Members widget only show’s avatar and name. You can find it here: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-featured-members-widget/

ParticipantResponse to your questions are as follows:
1. I am positive I am running wordpressMU, under my admin dashboard it states You are using WordPress MU 2.7.1.
2. This is a fresh install of WordPressMU and Buddypress. I had never heard of either of these until a week ago so I installed WordPressMU 2.7.1 first and then downloaded BuddyPress1.0 and installed via installation instructions listed here https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-buddypress/
3. I believe WordPressMU was functioning, but I had never used it before so I can’t state that confidently. Just from playing around with it previously and me still being able to use the dashboard without issue, I would say it was functioning.
4. I am using BuddyPress1.0
5. Yes I logged in as site admin on WPMU’s backend, activated buddypress under the plugins section, and am currently utilizing the BuddyPress Default Home Theme 1.0
6. The only plugin I have listed is BuddyPress and I’ve never installed any other plugins
7. I believe I am using the standard buddypress theme that was automatically installed with BuddyPress, I myself did not install any custom themes
8. I do not see any error messages that are catching my eye in my /var/log/messages
Just a little additional info. I’m running WordPress/BuddyPress on my own webserver. I am running a linux box using CentOS 5.3 and apache to host my current website utilizing drupal and all works fine. I wanted to utilize the BuddyPress social networking feel for my site so I’d like to move to BuddyPress. I started from scratch with installing WordPressMU and BuddyPress. I made the correct databases and users using MySQL. If you have any other questions please let me know. Thanks

ParticipantOkay, before we can assist further, we need more information. Please answer these questions:
- You’re positive that you’re running WordPress Mu and not single-version WP?
- Assuming the answer to number 1 is yes, then did you upgraded from a previous version of WPMU, and if so, from which version and how?
- Did you have WPMU functioning properly before installing and upgrading BuddyPress?
- Which version of BuddyPress are you running?
- Did you log in as site admin in WPMU’s backend and activate BuddyPress?
- Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated?
- Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or custom themes?
- Are there are errors in your server’s log files, and if so, what are they?

ParticipantI would also like this. On pages made in wordpress can users have the rights to edit them? Almost like a wiki in that sense.

The Sandman
ParticipantThank you I’ve pasted the text of your code into a newly created .php file and placed it in mu-plugins folder. It works nicely.
I’ve also had to disable BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncing. Otherwise a newly created user would seem to “lose” his name completely after attempting to change it in BuddyPress’ Edit Profile.
Thanks again!

ParticipantAs suggested in this topic, Jcrop is gonna be implemented to WordPress 2.8
Perhaps it’s a good chance to replace the cropping system with Jcrop in the future releases like 1.1?

KeymasterJfcarter: you should be able to enable deep integration by adding this to the very top of your bb-config.php file:
require_once( $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/wp-blog-header.php' );Assuming WordPress is installed in the root.
May 11, 2009 at 2:15 am #45002John James Jacoby
KeymasterSounds to me like you’re not including the file correctly. If you were, the function would exist.
Basic integration has very little to do with what you’re trying to do. They are unrelated in most ways. Basic integration just allows cookies to match up, so that you have a unified login scenario, where you can login and out freely from either side of WP or BBP.
Deep integration involves loading bbPress inside WordPress, and WordPress inside bbPress, so that all functions and data are available to both sides at any point.

InactiveI’ll look into the JS/BB issue in a bit. Thanks for that.
The only themes I have are:
WordPress Classic
WordPress mu Default
WordPress mu Homepage
Revolution City Gray
Currently, ‘mu Homepage’ is the default theme.

KeymasterFirstly I notice that your Avatar cropper javascript is failing on registration. Also looks like bits of your site are missing, and messing with the BuddyBar (sub-sub menus aren’t appearing on hover.)
Otherwise, it’s working the way you have it setup. If what you’re asking is “why doesn’t my home theme look like testbp.org” it’s because you didn’t change your active home theme in WordPress.

Not sure what’s up with your member theme though. Might be missing some files or have some funky CSS or JS somewhere. Haven’t really looked into it for you.

ParticipantI agree. It would be a nice integration. however, i think that it needs to be integrated with the wordpress users table first.

KeymasterI actually linked to the function reference in my post above yours.

That function is a WordPress function to check and see if the user browsing the site is logged in or not. It will return true if yes, false if no.
if (if_user_logged_in())) {
[..your custom menu item code...]
}May 10, 2009 at 9:24 pm #44977John James Jacoby
KeymasterUse the normal WordPress function is_user_logged_in().

ParticipantSo far, I’ve been able to integrate buddypress and bbPress.
My question involves this whole “deep integration” thing. I’ve scoured the forums on bbpress.org and mu.wordpress.org, but have not found anything that relates directly to running WPMU within bbpress.
Anyone know of a thread or have information on how to arrange this “deep integration?”
thx

ParticipantThe Northern Smurfs called a certain object a “bottle smurfer”, while the Southern Smurfs called it a “smurf opener”.
Language customization is subtly different from language translation but both share similar localization processes, using the same tools.
( https://codex.wordpress.org/Localizing_WordPress & https://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress. Google for more)
Of course, as Lance accurately stated, using dedicated software is overkill if your intention is to change a small set of frequently used words site-wide (turning “groups” into “teams”, “members” into “players” and so on).
In which case I’d go for the “slugs” method, as suggested by Andy Peatling, rather than tinker with the language files.
As always, scale matters.
If you are interested in managing one or more custom language versions, or if you find yourself willing to change more stuff as it comes, I strongly advise you to consider the software option.
It’s a personal investment which requires you to do your homework and learn to organize your projects accordingly but the learning curve isn’t that steep, and it will guarantee you less white hair in the long run.
PoEdit is a good choice, giving you the full benefit of a precious asset: translation memory.
Once installed on your PC, it creates and maintains databases for each translation project – its original purpose. A feature that can be put to good use for language customization.
Its rather straightforward user interface lets you focus on the language changes you want to make, with a built in “search” feature to locate words or expressions.
There is no built in “find & replace” feature as software translation is primarily based on strings and not single word occurrences, which can be located in different strings with different contextual meanings.
If you really want to batch-replace words, you can achieve this using a text editor like Notepad++. Proceed with extreme caution, though: unexpected replacements using this method are frequent, that you can’t always undo except by hand, which defeats the purpose of the whole process.
Since language files are usually modified with each new release (added strings, modified strings, different string locations…), you’re also better off handling language file updates that way, keeping the language customization logic independent from the file itself, in PoEdit’s TM (translation memory) safe at home on your PC.
When upgrading BP, it will spare you tedious language files comparison and copy-paste hell in a river of strings, and will do the job with more accuracy.
A single mistake in a modified language file can generate cryptic errors which you don’t want to start tracking and debugging in 3,000 + strings distributed in multiple language files.
PoEdit gives you the ability to manage multiple language files using a single TM database (or as many as you wish).
This is especially useful when you know that the number of language files to be handled gets larger as your platform grows (plugins, themes and templates sometimes have their own – and should).
Using PoEdit will give you the required semantic homogeneity among all language files belonging to the same project, seamlessly.
This is where translators make significant productivity gains. And so can you.
What is more, the software approach scales nicely:
If you want to leverage your community’s knowledge for language customization – Klingon, Smurf, slang, professional jargon, secret dialect, whatever… – you may want to install Pootle
( http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ), an open source collaborative translation platform that does the same as PoEdit, on your server, and upload the languages files for collective customization – the scenario is yours.

ParticipantThanks for this information. I do have integration between buddypress and bbPress, such that my users, group forums, and logins, work seamlessly between the two programs.
I have not been able to understand what deep integration means in terms of WPMU + Buddypress + bbPress, and I’ve even gone over to the bbpress.org and mu.wordpress.org forums. Mostly because the program versions are all so different and the forums are often 1-2 years old that I can’t really gauge what procedures I should follow for WPMU 2.7.1, BP 1.0, bbP 1.0 alpha 6.
If you could point me to a thread that discusses deep integration between these three versions (whatever is close enough), or a thread on how to load WPMU in bbPress, I would appreciate it. Then I can implement your instructions.
Thanks!

KeymasterYeah I know that. I’m currently using fillters and hooks etc to override so I can put them into my bp-custom.php. A nice plugin so I can use the WordPress UI to change the messages would be better.
