Clothes retailers I’ve seen in passing using WordPress install e-commerce plugins with or without BuddyPress. Check out some fashion sites using BP at http://www.bpinspire.com/high-quality-buddypress-sites/fashion. There’s also relatively “young” BuddyPress retailer shop riotcart.com which uses BuddyPress in a section of the site http://www.riotcart.com/groups.
Just to clarify, which group document are you referring to?
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-documents/ which hasn’t been updated since May 2010
or https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-docs/ connected to groups which has just been updated Feb 2011?
May implement a Town Index with buddypress.org? I am familiar with WordPress.org…
in main page I would like somethink like old yahoo.com categories… when click appear the category data with listings/urls/tel etc
I can not send email at http://testbp.org/ … is it fixed?
I’ve just tried, and it is working fine for me. I assume you have, but try re-opening your browser and checking for capital letters. You could also test logging into https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ as that should work, too.
Hi all,
I spent some time yesterday playing with YSlow and Pagespeed and a bunch of options to get my site loading faster and I thought I’d share and ask others for their experience/thoughts.
These are the things I am trying out:
* FV Gravatar Cache (plugin)
* WP Minify (plugin)
* Using dropbox as a CDN http://bp-tricks.com/featured/dropbox-cdn-host-buddypress-wordpress-theme/ (for now until I set up a ‘proper’ CDN)
Pagespeed also suggests browser caching, I know that some caching tools can cause issues with buddypress, does anyone have any suggestions of the best settings or a walkthrough for this?
Cheers

Using Buddypress 1.2.8 and WordPress 3.1
Whope i will get all the solutions as soon as possible.
Yes, using the admin panel to install BuddyPress will always download the latest, stable release.
Don’t move the wordpress directory! If you need to reinstall WordPress in the root directory, do it from scratch!
Yesterday I re-installed wordpress 3.1. I go to plugin and search for buddypress and then install it from there, I am assuming this gets me the latest version. At that time I did enable permalink.
What I do is I mv wordpress /var/www/html/.
How can I tell if re-write is working or debug this problem.
Did you enable pretty permalinks like mercime suggested? Are you using the latest version of BP?
Did you install WordPress in a subdirectory with these instructions?
https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
If so, there are bugs with BP 1.2.8 relating to subdirectory installs.
Please read this thread to resolve the login/logout issue for now:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/loginlogout-from-admin-bar-does-not-work
Yes I have. But what I see is that I start getting 404 as soon as I install buddypress. And it doesn’t let me login once I logout. I then keep getting “You have already installed wordpress please login”. I had to re-instlal wordpress and struggling with getting buddypress up and running. I even tried updating .htaccess file as suggested earlier but that didn’t help.
What is wordpress doing with mod_rewrite? How can I debug if it’s being used or not?
You can have an alternate color of whatever you want in your theme via css, with this simple css rule:
` tr.alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; } `
Since your using the buddypress default theme, you will add this rule under the:
`/* > WordPress Blog Comment Styles
*/` to something like:
`#comments ol.commentlist tr.alt {
background-color: #f4f4f4;
}`
WP: 3.1
Custom Theme
Buddypress 1.2.8
I just installed buddypress on our site and the problem I am having is if i view a existing user. It isn’t showing that they have any blog posts/comments etc even though they do. Is this normal? Why isn’t this working?
Everything else i have tested appears to be working fine, private messages, activity stream. Just nothing appears to be pulled over from wordpress.
If you need any more information just ask.
Got a back and forth convo of reviewers that’s quit comical. They did approve. I think BuddyPress should be an exception but at the same time must use all BuddyPress functions / components and of course pass WordPress theme scan.
The child theme they are questioning is just a CSS file one page template and a funtions file. That should pass 100% but they scan it and it fails 99% because they are scanning against WordPress not BuddyPress
How big is BP? Should it have it’s on theme section in the repo or will the requirement be that it will work as WP theme when BP is switched off? Do we as a community need our own site for free BP child themes? These questions and many more when we come back from this commercial break.

Ok, so I have been using WordPress for a while but very new to BuddyPress. I am confused.
How are BuddyPress users related to the WordPress users? I cannot see where to fill in the BuddyPress specific profile info when adding a new user to WP.
I am creating a website for an Association, and we want the Admins to be the ones to input the info of users. Is this possible or BuddyPress users have to fill in this info themselves?
Ps. Is it me or is BuddyPress way harder to use and find ‘stuff’ for than WordPress? Maybe I’m having new user blues…
I’ve just installed Buddypress and think I’ll be able to figure the basics OK, but was wondering what the differences and any benefits of running on WordPress MU as opposed to a single WP install? I tried BP & WPMU before, but was on a slow server a it struggled. On a faster server now, with a single MP, so wondered what the benefits of WPMU were before I get stuck into developing the site?

I got wordpress 3.1
Buddypress 1.2.8
Hosted under Yahoo web hosting.
ARe there other stuffs I need to install or configure? BUddypress defaults enables private messaging and accepting friend requests.
When I try to create a message, or click the message link. the page redirect me to members directory.
When i try to view or edit my own profile or others profile, still redirect to members directory.
When I try to add friend. The other person receives notification. but click it will only redirect to members directory. Clicking the notification on the admin bar will just redirect to member’s directory as well
I thought things will be easy install.
Thanks guys in advance.
Hi there, I am using the default theme which is slightly modified (nothing major) and would love to have alternating comment backgrounds in this theme. I have found lots of methods for wordpress and older versions of wp but none work. Does anyone have a sure fire way of adding odd and even to the comments.php loop so i can css it up?
Thanks in advance
