MemberI am having the same issue. WordPress 3.3.1 and BuddyPress 1.5.4
Added the custom code from above to the functions.php – did not help. Cannot get the activation email to get sent and I have tried 15 different REAL email accounts including comcast.net, verizon.net and yahoo.net.
After Registration… it lands me on the Registration Complete message… tells me an activation email is waiting for me. But also have the Gravatar Upload available. If I try to upload anything, it just bumps me out, because I have NOT activated yet.
I am STUMPED! I will try deactivating ALL plugins but I am down to the bare bones now.
Someone please help… I am weeks over due and I thought I was just about ready to launch… now this!
Thanks!

@ChrisClayton
Participant@BlinkyBill01 – You can see the changes that will be in 1.6 here, https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5443
the red markings is what was removed and the green is what was added,
to find it in the future, it’s usually linked to by a core dev before the ticket becomes closed,
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2207#comment:22…and for anyone thinking of using it on their site for a quick-fix, please note that it’s still in beta and being tested and not guaranteed to work… (theirs a reason it doesn’t get pushed out to live sites automatically)
Since it isn’t a critical bug but an enhancement i’d recommend waiting afew weeks until it’s out officially.
edit: ohhh, right. We are at version 1.5.4 you can see them here – https://buddypress.org/blog/

KeymasterThis might be a new-ish edge case we haven’t caught, since the toolbar became mandatory in wp-admin in WP 3.3. I’ll test BuddyBar on 1.5.4 this evening (I was testing the WP Toolbar previously which might explain).

KeymasterYou’re right that it had broken in trunk again; I’ve just fixed it, and so it’ll update on BuddyPress.org soonish. Thanks for pointing that out.
I tested the 1.5 branch, and the 1.5.4 tag, and both worked fine. On your site, are you able to look at the large gravatar with a CSS inspector and see if it’s picking up these styles:
#wp-admin-bar-user-info img.avatar {
height: 64px;
width: 64px;

MemberAlso of note- I’m working in a multi-site environment where BOTH sites are exhibiting this behavior (I wanted to rule out this being a problem isolated to the second site by checking both for the bad behavior)

MemberNope, I’m using BuddyPress 1.5.4. I noticed this behavior as soon as the upgrade was up and running. As noted in another thread (component crash note) we had to systematically shut down the different components (including BuddyPress) to troubleshoot the problem. When we deactivated Buddypress, the user name displayed properly again. When we reactivated BuddyPress, the user name was screwwed up as noted in my message above.
The display for the username is right below the main navigation, in the light gray bar to the right of the search for members/groups/posts by the login/logout controls.

Participant@mercime – I did look at the changeset/5628 of 3 files bp-core-adminbar.php, admin-bar.php and admin-bar.dev.css but I do have the same codes as 3 files. There is nothing I could change. I have the version 1.5.4. Is there a fix?
February 24, 2012 at 10:34 pm #130414frostdawn
MemberNote- if you run into the above issue, you have to systematically deactivate the different components, then just reactivate the core BuddyPress. You will then have access to the components view where you can toggle these settings back, and then reactivate the components.

KeymasterIf you want to remove all HTML, this should work:
`function bbg_remove_activity_html( $content ) {
return strip_tags( $content );
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_content_body’, ‘bbg_remove_activity_html’, 1 );
add_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_content’, ‘bbg_remove_activity_html’, 1 );
add_filter( ‘bp_activity_content_before_save’, ‘bbg_remove_activity_html’, 1 );`If you want to remove HTML tags more selectively, check out the filter at the end of this function, which will allow you to modify which tags are allowed: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.5.4/bp-activity/bp-activity-filters.php#L90

KeymasterHi @takuya and @cyrille13 – Sorry for some of the miscommunications above. It was only after seeing the linked bug report that I was able recognize that what you were reporting was actually an instance of https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3725, which we’ve known about for a while, but which was very difficult to track down. (See https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3725#comment:7 for all the gory details.) It has been fixed for the next version of BP. In the meantime, you can fix your installation either by manually applying https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5778, or by doing what @cyrille13 suggests: changing the name of your Full Name profile field at Dashboard > BuddyPress > Profile Fields.
Thanks for your patience.
February 23, 2012 at 7:11 pm #27861Topic: Root blog
in group forum Installing BuddyPressProtesta
MemberThe issue exists for both the buddybar Nd the WP adminbar.
I have WPMU 3.3.1′ BP 1.5.4
When on another site than the primary blog.the activity, group, etc links try to resolve on the current blog instead of going to the correct page on the primary blog.
Have tries to set blog id and enable multisite to correct this issue, without any change. Attempted to use Redirectmatch and it just broke the installation.
This is a major issue.
Would be perfectly fine with enabling multiblog if it would work.February 23, 2012 at 12:38 am #130290In reply to: [Resolved] Urgent Internet Explorer Issue

MemberI try with different themes but same problem. Is a problem with Buddypress 1.5.4 with wordpress 3.3.1 ?
Some help please? many days looking for information about issue and nothing
February 21, 2012 at 1:41 am #130148John James Jacoby
KeymasterI’m perplexed that you understand each other and I am still not confident what the problem is or how either of you have fixed it.
Not clarifying the issue with clear and concise steps to reproduce it is leaving the dev team without an understanding of how to duplicate; there is no way to fix something we do not understand.
I’m closing this topic since it seems resolved. If you are able to include clear steps to reproduce this (go here, click here, this happens, go here, this happens, etc…) please drop them in the ticket you linked to above.

ParticipantIt is the regular WordPress version 3.3.1 using a new install of Buddypress 1.5.4. This issue occurs even with the default theme activated and with all other plugins deactivated.

KeymasterA vaguely related group invite issue was addressed in BP 1.5.4. I suggest you upgrade asap and see if the problem goes away.
