ihave got it working so far but the strange thing is that it creates a blog instead of a profile and when i click on create a home base it just says…

You’re logged in already. No need to register again!

so basically when you register at bp.spotskenya.com/ you go through the sign up well and uit does it nicely but its creating a blog not a user… i am guessing this is due to the fact that i am useing sub directories no subdomains as my server doesnt alow me acces to wildcards.

plase can som one help its for a major uni project..

    cheers

Sounds similar to a problem I ran into. I had a user create an account with the name “justin” but domain.com/members/justin redirected to a post with a slug starting with justin rather than the user profile. Not exactly the same problem, but sounds like they’re related. I’m planning on investigating this soon, but if it’s widespread hopefully Andy can check it out as well.

To solve it in the near term I just renamed the post so it didn’t start with Justin and everything worked fine, but I’m likely to encounter this again.

    @gogoplata

So you set it to “Only user account can be created”, correct?

    Thx

Create an account on codex.buddypress.org then hit “EDIT PAGE” on the right. You will need to go to “Pages > Add New” on the left menu. Enter a page for your language and select “page parent” on the right menu as “Translations”.

Just installed trunk 509. I’m running out of steam people. Don’t even wanna complain anymore. However I gotta get one about 509 in: Trying to go to a specific group page gets the now familiar white screen of death. WSOD from now on. I’m tired of typing it. Gonna go have a smoke and install trunk 510 when I get back.

You know what we need? An FTPinglist. Kinda like a mailing list only one way. From bp to the rest of the universe. I’ll just create another ftp user account for the bp ftpinglist. I’m getting tired of all this downloading, installing, playing, uploading, playing and complaining. Let’s just cut right to the complaining.

    :D

    I need a smoke and a nap.

    Hi apeatling !

I installed buddypress on a test server 2 days ago. How to upgrade ? I just have to upload the code plugin ?

And another question. I just give it a try on my install, and after creating the admin, i wanted to test with a normal account. The registration was ok, the only problem was that i had to create the homebase for this user to. The problem you mentioned on your post is this one ?

If not, is there a way to automaticaly make it ?

    Thanks for your help !

And all my congratulations for such a project :)

Wildcard subdomains are part of your DNS & apache setup.

To turn off subdomains in WP, edit your wp-config.php and change VHOST to ‘no’.

okay so…how do I do the wildcards? Is it hard? Am I better off disabling subdomain accounts? If so, how do I do that?

    :)

    thanks!

Ah…it is a subdomain account. I do not know what wildcards are. I will look into it now

“Lets say I couldn’t create accounts with MU, what would you recommend then?”

Then I’d recommend you go back over the readme file included with MU. :) If you set up a subdomain account, it’s likely you forgot to do the wildcards.

Does the link in the activation email have the right domain in it?

Good question…it was a new install so I never tried.

I am at work right now and wont get a chance until 6 pm PST.

Lets say I couldn’t create accounts with MU, what would you recommend then?

    Thanks,

Could you create accounts in MU before you added Buddypress?

Is full registration (users+blogs) enabled under Site Admin/Options? “Enabled. Blogs and user accounts can be created.” should be selected on that page. I believe this was the error I received when I tried to create a home base and full registration wasn’t enabled.

Also, is this a clean install of 2.6.2 and what version of the BuddyPress plugins are you using so we can help you out if the above issue isn’t the problem.
