This must be a simple one, but as always the answer evades me!
The final email message that includes the userid and password reads like this:

Your new account is setup.
You can log in with the following information:

I would very much like to customize this to my own note, including the signature, etc.
I have tried the welcome box in settings, but to no avail. I am not giving them a blog and just a user account. Perhaps that’s why the welcome thing doesn’t work.
Where do these email messages reside in the back-end? I know this one must be somewhere in WPMU files and not BP.

I have a simple question that I have spent the last hour trying to find a solution for.
How do I change the default emails sent to new users who are only creating user accounts? (I have the “Only user account can be created.” setting enabled – I don’t want new users to create new blogs)
I know that there is a “Welcome Email” setting in the Site Admin -> Site Options section. When I change these settings, the welcome email doesn’t change. That means, this setting is for new blog users I believe, and not new user accounts.
Does that mean I have to change something in the core files??????
I get this welcome email after the activation email when creating new user accounts (which I can’t change):

On my site http://www.realfam.com you can click “sign up” and go through the steps and you get the standard message saying your account was created and you need to activate. You get the activation email, but when you click on the link it takes you to the Login Page…and you dont have a password yet. If you click the link inth eemail again you get a 404 error. Any ideas? thsi worked a few hours ago just fine.
Topic: Moderate Users and New Blogs
Hey, guys… Anybody know how to do moderate new users and new blogs created through a BP driven site?
I found this hack (http://wpmututorials.com/hacks/how-to-moderate-signups/) and followed it well. Problem is, BP overrides (??wrong term??) the WPMU signups.
So, it doesn’t really work for me.
I look in bp-core and found the signup functions but it doesn’t remotely look like the above code in order for me (in my limited ability) to hack into it.
The above hack has WPMU send the activation email to the admin and lets the admin activate the new user and/or blog, then sends the password(s) to the new user (for both registration and/or blog creation). I would really like to have this capability with my BP installation.
What I’d really love is for someone to write a plugin to do this so that I don’t have to hack the files each time I upgrade BP. But I’d settle for a hack at this point.
Any ideas????

Had the same problem. The I did a fresh install and used an email address on the same domain as the admin’s email: eg. site = mybp.co.za and admin email = admin@myby.co.za
In my first installs I was using my work email during installation and for some reason it would not work.

I’ve had a problem similar to #1. The email is actually sent but the recipient’s email server just blocks it. They never get it. It doesn’t get sent to ‘spam’ like gmail or yahoo. They just don’t get it at all.

Topic: activation email / new users
I have WPMU 2.7 and the latest BuddyPress from trunk.
There are a few things that don’t seem to be working right. Maybe I’m missing something simple.
-when a new user registers for just a username, they’re never sent an email… they’re just held in wp_signups
-when a new user registers for a blog&username, they’re sent an activation email, but the blog (which does work) doesn’t show up on the /blogs list nor on the /members/MEMBERNAME/blogs list after they activate. The blog does exist though if you go to blogname.site.com
I tried the SMTP plugin but that didn’t help matters at all.
Topic: Can’t Create User Accounts
My buddypress install is not letting me create new accounts. Full registration is enabled. I am able to fill out the form for a profile and it even sends out an email. But when I click on that email’s activation, it links to a “Server not Found message”
Same thing happens with my home base. Since there is no email activation, I get the message when I click on my user name on the top right hand corner..
Any ideas?
By the way, I love what you guys are doing. This is going to change the world!!!
