ParticipantLink doesn’t matter unless we have accounts on your site.

anyway, what versions are you running?
I just changed password on my install and went fine. Maybe bbpress is causing something. But I don’t have bbpress yet on my site.

KeymasterMy one and only suggestion for this, is that you may want to reference the trusted download sites and zip files versus your own.
While your contribution is obviously very much super duper appreciated, some people are weary of downloading files from untrusted sources, which limits your audience even though you’re trying to be helpful.
Otherwise, it seems to be as straight forward as it can be, so good job.

ParticipantHeh. After weeping tears of blood trying to integrate bbPress, buddypress and wpmu, after several installs, multiple reads of Trent’s tutorial page, I began to suspect XML-RPC problems and jumped back on the forums, found this thread and installed Burt Adsit’s lovely little plugin and am rewarded with:
-32300 >> transport error – could not open socket: -1080553356
Thanks Burt. You rock. Now to figure out how to permit XML-RPC calls locally.

I’m going to integrate bbPress on my test install and give it a go myself this evening.

ParticipantHi All,
I just updated mekudos.com with MU 2.7.1, RC-2 and BB-Press Alpha6 and all was a success. However, I do not see an option for the home and member templates for forums to link bbpress and RC-2?
Thanks for All the Hard Work,

ParticipantOh, this is EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Trent, thank you sooo much!
But where do I put the plugin, and is there a specific name it should be?

ParticipantBurt-
Well, that was one of my thoughts–and why I’m asking Grandslambert to clarify what he meant by
Using WPMU 2.7 and the latest TRUNK of bbPress
I assume he meant BuddyPress. If so, is he running WPMU 2.7 but with BP 1.0_RC2? Did he install the BP folder in the proper spot? You’ve seen my questions above.
But, I’m tired and JJJ had an intriguing idea as well. So, perhaps I should get some sleep tonight and all the problems of the universe will disappear overnight!

ParticipantWPMU 2.7 and the latest TRUNK of bbPress
I assume you mean BuddyPress, and not bbPress. If so, then here are a few questions:
- What do you mean by “latest TRUNK”? Did you actually download the BP trunk from trac as a zip or use SVN? Or, did you obtain BuddyPress from the big, orange Download button that can be found on the top of any BP page?
- What version of BuddyPress are you using?
- Where exactly did you place the BuddyPress folder?
- You are using WPMU 2.7 and not WPMU 2.7.1-beta1 or -beta2, correct?
April 19, 2009 at 9:59 pm #43005GrandSlambert
ParticipantYeah, I tried exactly that, but then I get all these errors when I try to activate the blog:
Warning: require(BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/grandsla/geosee.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-user/functions.php on line 70
Warning: require(BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/grandsla/geosee.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-user/functions.php on line 70
Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘BP_PLUGIN_DIR/bp-core/bp-core-signup.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/grandsla/geosee.com/wp-content/themes/buddypress-user/functions.php on line 70
So that doesn’t work. Using WPMU 2.7 and the latest TRUNK of bbPress

ParticipantI’ve been over this entire post, and the posts linked off from it. Everything is working good, but the ability to have a forum post created by a group forum. And upon creating a new group, I get the error “Attention Site Admin: Group forums require correct setup and configuration of a bbPress installation.”
The couple of comments in here that have just this problem didn’t seem to get responses. Could this be my host, Media Temple DV, not allowing the rpc calls to the server?

ParticipantI’ll reply to the name issue here also. The group names and descriptions can be arbitrarily long and can trash the theme layout in bbpress. These are two different software packages Elody and I chose to be as minimally invasive as possible. I left the forum name and description up to the bbpress/wpmu admin’s discretion.
I didn’t think that a site admin would be too happy to have the theme broken by a long group name.
I included a way out also. The name and description of the group are pulled over to bbpress and are available as template tags for you to use.

April 17, 2009 at 1:51 pm #42832Trent Adams
ParticipantIt would make sense to have a searchable blog for such code snippet creations. The restrictions on proper searching in bbPress makes it difficult to find things. I get better results searching google to find things I know exist in these forums. That is where a blog would be way better

ParticipantFrom the forums installation-readme.txt:
11. Enable user switching in bbPress by copying the following line of code into your bbPress
bb-config.php file:
$bb->bb_xmlrpc_allow_user_switching = true;
Needs to be in your bb-config.php

Participantthanks Rayni:
On the rss idea, I do not see a button anywhere on this page to sign up for rss for this particular thread. Is there a trick to that?
As to activity streams:
Well as I don’t ‘blog’ or anything on this site that can ‘sort of’ work for now. I’d hate to have to go that route on my own buddypress setup though, as I may post 20-50 blogs posts a day, and respond to a few hundred other posts. The forum posts would simply get lost in the mix.
Are simple functions like subscribe and add to favorites not available in bbpress?

jfcarter
ParticipantThank you so much, Jeff!
For the login redirect, I tried to create the plugin as per Burt’s instructions in that thread, but couldn’t get it to work. Not sure why, but I’ll look at it again.
I’ll look into the rebranding of WPMU.
Good advice on the questions. I sometimes treat WPMU, BP and bbpress as if they are all the same, which they aren’t.
Much obliged.

Thanks John, I’ll wait for the tutorial!
Note – because of a limitation of my hosting provider (for whom I am a reseller) – they don’t allow xml-rpc calls to the same server, I have had to put bbPress on a different server from WordPress & BuddyPress, so if you want a tester to go through the tutorial I am happy to do so.
(I have a few spare domain names kicking around that I can use for this!)

ParticipantThe absolute SVN of bbPress is risky. I would download or svn switch to alpha 6.
svn switch http://svn.automattic.com/bbpress/tags/1.0-alpha-6That or download from https://trac.bbpress.org/browser/tags/1.0-alpha-6
In terms of versions to use, I am really hoping very soon I can say WPMU 2.7.1 final release and BP 1.0 release
Without being told differently, I think alpha 6 is pretty stable.Trent

KeymasterThis is the greatest challenge of all.
Read the integration tutorial at this website.
Read it again. Read it again. Read it again.
Follow all steps, exactly.
Use Firefox and check the cookies that are being placed when you login to BuddyPress. Chances are that you skipped a step somewhere, or that one of your cookies or plugins is out of alignment.
It is possible and they can play nice together.
