In reply to: bbPress – There was an error posting that topic.

ParticipantByron, you made it. I thought about this. Is your new user a ‘member’ in bbpress? Also do you have this line:
$bb->bb_xmlrpc_allow_user_switching = true;
in bb-config.php?

ParticipantOkay so I just tried installing the absolute latest Trunk of BBPress with BuddyPress RC1, but when I try to activate the buddypress-enable.php file it says:
Plugin file does not exist.
Back to Modelrific Forums.

ParticipantOkay, so I get
-32300 >> transport error – HTTP status code was not 200
I’m assuming this is the same error he got above…I guess I’ll try installing BBPress on a different server…hrmmm

Participant@Jfcarter – if you do not have the option to enable xmlrpc and pingbacks it is because you are not using the latest Alpha version of BBPress – you can download this zip at: https://bbpress.org/latest-alpha.zip
@Trent – It may be a good idea to put direct links to all of the appropriate download versions that are needed in your original post. It is very confusing when there are 2 or 3 different releases of the same thing and a lot of people seem to be stuck on little mistakes like having the wrong version number (which you wouldn’t think is confusing, but it is!)

ParticipantWhen I go into bbpress admin settings, there is no option to enable xmlrpc and pingbacks. Why and what should I do?
1. So far, WPMU, BuddyPress and bbpress have installed.
2. I can create forums in Groups on BP, but I can\’t see them on bbpress
3. When I try to enter a post in the Group forum in BP, I get the red square and error message: “There was an error posting that topic.”
4. Also, even if I’m logged in as admin in BP (which is mapped to Keymaster in bbpress), I still have to sign in again when I reach the bbpress forums.
5. This leads me back to: xmlrpc and pingbacks (why are the checkboxes not visible?)

Participantyeah, I installed about 6+ times and made it work in the end, but don\’t know what the difference is to the 5 times before that. I was going to write down the exact steps I used but then it was so late and promptly forgotten the next day and now it\’s a week later and gosh, no way to exactly trace back… the only thing I remember was that I simplified and actually did LESS than some of the posts suggest. also, as with the alpha I was constantly getting \’table not found\’ error regarding the user table during install, so I ended up not going with 2 db\’s but added this one to the wpmu db – no more error during install and smooth sailing between the two (except that I still need to put the cookies in, as it will not remember as whom I\’m logged in or if at all when switching between buddypress and bbpress… as an admin and a regular user this can become tricky).
not very helpful at this point (sorry about that), I know, and I dread the time that I will have to go through that setup again, but at least I made it work on this one

KeymasterIt’s neither actually anymore.
It involves “deep integration” on the bbPress side, including WordPress/BuddyPress inside bbPress, and then making a new theme for bbPress that matches.

Trent and I are working on a comprehensive walk-through on how to do this soon.

Participant(When I’ve activated the share users data base between BP and bbPress, the bbpress admin panel desapeared, even if i add /bb-admin. Next, when I log in bbPress, as user or as admin…, I can’t write a post or start a new topic anymore).
I don’t know if there is a link between everiything…?

ParticipantI am on RC1.. I had Send Invites plugin installed, it messed up the whole thing (i.e. it automatically disabled the JS for some reason), so I deleted the plugin file and folder.
I had installed WP Super Cache too, it did not work well, so I had to take it off too..
Other than that, no MU plugins…
Here is the list of plugins I have installed for a single blog:
Akismet
All in One SEO Pack
Global Translator
Google XML Sitemaps
SexyBookmarks
Smart Youtube
Smilies Themer
Twitter for WordPress
Twitter for WordPress
WordPress 2.6+ and bbPress 0.9 cookie integration
WP Custom Login Logo
I disabled all the plugins but still the issue remains.
In my previous reply, I had disabled registration just to cross verify.. but still the new tables are getting created..
I traced the user from the User ID mentioned in the table name.. the user looks like a spammer to me.. but now sure what the user is trying to do as those created tables have 0 records…

ParticipantOk!! Then it is excellent. Because for this feature above, there is a plugin (WP):

ParticipantIf you want moderators for wpmu, add new admins or new collaborators to your mu
if you want moderators for group forums, you’ve to add new moderators in bbpress (or vb)
April 12, 2009 at 4:01 am #42428Burt Adsit
ParticipantI’m confused as to where you want this moderation to occur. In wpmu or bbpress? These are two different software packages with two different sets of roles. There are administrative roles available in both.

Participant– It is possible, in the profile, to show the posts list and favorite topics that the user added of the blog and forum
Everything except the above is a standard part of bp.

ParticipantOk Burtadsit, thanks for your information.
And you know if the BP to WP will have features that I mentioned in the first topic?
April 11, 2009 at 6:39 pm #42393Burt Adsit
Participantadv_user, sometime in the next several months. There isn’t any specific *public* timeline for releasing a version of bp that works on regular wp. Only automattic knows.
April 11, 2009 at 4:36 pm #42391adv_user
ParticipantAnd there is a plugin for wordpress to makes these activities do I need?
Because I need to do that “community integrated” with some urgency, and don’t I know if you have estimates of when the BP will be distributed to the WP?

ParticipantIf you ask me, it makes ‘things’ just more complex and harder to get working
April 11, 2009 at 7:14 am #42378Burt Adsit
ParticipantYou have an existing wp install and want to connect another install, buddypress, to that? I don’t think that is possible. You could install wpmu and bp. Import your existing wp blog into wpmu and then install bp on a different blog. That you can do.
Your current blog would be imported as blog id 1 and bp could be installed on another blog you create. That would work.

ParticipantYou see. What I want to do tho is keep my wordpress blog intact. With that theme that it has right now and what not. And to have, as another “website” yet integrated with my wordpress blog, my socialnetwork section. So with the buddypress thing, I can have my other kind of theme, yet if people use their accounts from buddypress to comment on my original wordpress blog, it will still be connected..they will still be able to see it on their activity.
April 11, 2009 at 5:22 am #42371Burt Adsit
Participantbp and wpmu use the same user table. A bp ‘account’ is a wp ‘account’. You can use any theme you like on your blog. All blog posts and their comments show up in activity from any blog that hasn’t been set to ‘private’.
April 11, 2009 at 4:45 am #42369yeyeman9
ParticipantIs there any way tho, that I dont know if it will help with what he is asking but, to use a wordpress MU and Buddypress….aka set up buddypress on a different directory…and still be able to integrate it with the normal wordpress? What I mean is…SO that when people use their budypress accoutns, they can comment on a post from the normal wordpress and it will appear in their activity?
April 11, 2009 at 4:26 am #42366felix2009
ParticipantIt is possible, to integrate bbPress + WordPress (MU), i did it my self already

And take a look @ Burtadsit .. You still need WPMU for right now, to run BuddyPress …
April 11, 2009 at 4:21 am #42364Burt Adsit
Participantbp does not run with the standalone version of wp yet. It requires wpmu right now.

ParticipantThe nice thing about themes, they are just html. Which is free to look at and examine. Chances are if you take a look at the source, and spend a few minutes in an image editor you will find this “theme” pretty easy to replicate.
What will be much harder to do is the quality job Andy has done integrating bbpress inside of buddypress. This blend on buddpress.org is seamless, and very difficult to achieve at this point without a lot of “deep intergration”.
But take a look at the source, and I think you will see it holds most the answers.

KeymasterIf I was going to use WordPress and bbPress as past examples, no, and don’t bet that it will be anytime soon.
Someone may make a replica, but usually the *Press public themes aren’t available for public use.
