ParticipantI have been trying to change the date output, but have not been able to, can not find the right file to adjust, some conflicts between BBpress/Wordpress/Buddypress who all use different functions.
Btw. I know nothing of PHP or Javascript so can not write a function…yet
Thanks for your feedback youmin, update coming soon.

KeymasterThe “Create a Group” link is available in the WP Admin Bar — “WP Admin Bar > Groups > Create A Group” — or on the Groups Directory page (example.com/groups/ usually).
The “Create New Topic” button is only available on a group’s “Forum” page if you installed the bbPress forum plugin and when you have connected a group with a forum.

Participant@spiritix usually with any kind of members plugin you can restrict access per user level on a page or post basis and should have the option within that post or page to select what user level has access to it with a custom message and even a link pointing them to upgrading their account.
what membership plugin are you using? and im sorry im not familiar with restrict content pro or bbpress though as ive not used them, if your users get given the correct roles within wordpress after registration then the problem lies with one of these plugins or some kind of conflict is my guess, maybe try to track it down by deactivating all plugins and reactivating them separately.

ParticipantHello guys
What I used is:
– BuddyPress with combination of either bbP private groups plugin or Members plugin or Restrict Content Pro – bbPress plugin
– I created extended BuddyPress profile fields in registration
– I restricted access to the forum with one of above mentioned plugins
– I used my code mentioned in the beginningHow it looks like:
– my code works like a charm! once you choose User1 type in registration, it applies subscriber role, User2 subscriber as well, contributor for User3 – THIS WORKS.
– what does NOT work is restriction via plugins. Have no clue why. With members plugin od pivate groups, I set Forum1 to be accessable ONLY to User3 type of user, but User1 and User2 can access too! Why?! It has nothing to do with my code, after registration you can clearly check it in WP Users that the role has been assigned. If I knew hot to restrict access to the forum based on the WP Role, my code would be sufficient to solve this. Can you help with that part?
@youmin – are upi saying in BB 2.2 access to forum based on the WP role is fixed?January 23, 2015 at 8:58 pm #232851Techknowledgic

ParticipantSo I think its a bbpress related widget,
Try this one, when you install buddypress you need to set the permalink, try changing this options in settings of buddypress or in bbpress.

ParticipantThat line didn’t work either.
I’ve tried on a clean install also, I receive the same results.
I’m wondering if there must be some other function since it’s buddypress integrating with bbpress.January 21, 2015 at 6:27 pm #232685r-a-y
KeymasterWe’re looking to improve the invite process for BuddyPress 2.3.
I’m going to ping @dcavins, as he will be implementing the invite improvements, so he’s aware of this.
Just to answer your questions:
Notification in the profile window’s (there are 3 notifications: message (1) – friends (1) – but in GROUPS there is no notification).
The “Groups > No Pending Invites” nav item is for invites you have requested. Not invites that are pending for the entire group.
The user (A) has posted in a group wall’s and the user (B) has done a comment.
The user (A) hasn’t received notification neither admin toolbar or administration profile windows.Currently, notifications do not occur for activity comments. We’ll likely add this enhancement into core eventually, but for now, you’ll have to use a plugin for this:
The user (A) has opened a forum in a grup. The user (B) has done a comment.
The user (A) has received notification in the administratio toolbar. But when the user (A) has done a comment the user (B) don’t has received the notification. How did user A reply to user B? On the group activity homepage or on the actual group forum topic? If user A replied on the group forum topic, then this sounds like an issue with bbPress, not BuddyPress.

ModeratorHi @lovecoinz
Try asking over at bbPress as the solution you need is more related to that plugin rather than BuddyPress.

ParticipantIn other way, I will be using this code for the whole site except login widgets (like BBpress log in sidebar widget):
function jessicana_redirect_page( $redirect_to, $request, $user ) { $redirect_to = bp_core_get_user_domain($user->ID) . 'notifications/'; return $redirect_to; } add_filter('login_redirect', 'jessicana_redirect_page', 11, 3);For widgets, I need a different function that redirects to the same page where users logs from. Is this possible?
I appreciate the help

ParticipantI tried BP Default Data and it wouldn’t do forum data. But now that I may have forum data, I’ll try it again. The plugin seemed really unfinished.
P.S. Dear bbPress, please let me fix the topic tags in this topic. I never chose a hyphen in “demo-data” and I never capitalized Test Data. You did that crap on your own and now you won’t let me fix it. What the heck.

BP – I use this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-default-data/
bbPress – download the Sample Data https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2516 and use WP importer

ParticipantI think that function should be an GUI option in BuddyPress’ settings page.
But the primary thing that made me give up working on my site was that I was spending a huge amount of time trying to create BuddyPress and bbPress testing data all on my own, including the fact that there’s no way I, a non BuddyPress and bbPress developer, could make sure I covered all elements and do it efficiently. I’m just a webmaster– I am unfit to do work that relies on that much knowledge of BuddyPress and bbPress, and it’s way too much work for me alone anyway since I don’t know the systems that well.
January 5, 2015 at 12:30 pm #231495shanebp
ModeratorDid you mean BuddyPress as opposed to bbPress?
Wouldn’t it be faster to just check for BuddyPress in your plugin and if found remove their filter and then replace it?
You can always create a ticket in trac. If you do, please reference this thread.

ParticipantHello I am the author of the contact form plugin.
The problem is that bbpress is adding a filter ‘wp_mail_from_name’ when the plugin is loaded.
/** * Set "From" name in outgoing email to the site name. * * @uses bp_get_option() fetches the value for a meta_key in the wp_X_options table. * * @return string The blog name for the root blog. */ function bp_core_email_from_name_filter() { return apply_filters( 'bp_core_email_from_name_filter', bp_get_option( 'blogname', 'WordPress' ) ); } add_filter( 'wp_mail_from_name', 'bp_core_email_from_name_filter' );My plugin also uses this filter. It applies it just before sending a mail and then removes it afterwards. When applying the filter it also checks whether any other plugin has already changed the from name from the default: ‘WordPress’, if so it does not apply the filter. When BBPress is active, the from name is not the default so the filter is not applied. This has been done so that the plugin works well with other plugins such as wp-mail-smtp which also allows the from name to be set.
I would like to request that BBPress only applies this filter at the time of sending the mail and then removes it afterwards as it only applies to emails that are sent from BBPress.

ParticipantWithout knowing everything exactly the way you envision, from reading:
4 different categories where different Contributors can write new posts and interact with the Participants in the forum (better way to comment and reply to questions using the forum, than WordPress’s commenting system). These Contributors, however, must have their own public profile and allow for Participants to subscribe to their posts. So far, I’ve used different plugins:
I think if you drop buddypress… do a WP MultiSite install – with 4 sub blogs… look into creating “author pages” – not all themes do that well out of the box… a simple subscribe to blog plugin for each of the 4 blogs.. I think you can install bbpress and mix it with each sub blog – but I have not messed with bbpress in a while, so not sure the best way to connect that.. I think you can enable to the bbpress “sitewide” then each individual sub blog author and enable it or something.. then code that into the sidebar if each blog.. that would do everything you have said I think.. maybe that will get you in the direction you are trying to go.
I suggest searching the wp plugin repo for plugins that are “multi site” enhancements.. look into “author pages” in the codex, and search for themes that have special author pages to make experimenting easier..

there is no forum in BuddyPress. You can use bbPress if you want group forums or a general forum.

Participant@sbraiden – I recently helped migrate a site off of wpengine because of performance issues and the price wpengine wanted for more horse power under the hood. Their next level of service was going to cost $3200 a month. I suggested linode.com and was also amused by the fact that wpengine runs on top of linode.
The page generation times for wordpress/buddypress/bbpress along with various plugins (gravity forms, buddypress xprofile custom fields type, gravity forms upload rules, gravity forms wysiwyg, gd bbpress toolbox, cloudflare…) was not good. It is still not where we want it either, unfortunately.
The site is quite active, pushing 30,000 members and over 1.3+ million rows in the posts table. On average the page generation times are about 1.5 seconds for logged in users. Adding a new bbpress topic/reply can time out sometimes though. (still on the list to track down and fix)
We utilize Cloudflare out front for a CDN and their threat/spam protection. Their service is free but if you need more page rules to balance out caching the pro service level is $20 a month.
On linode we have a node balancer in front of two 4 core app server nodes. The app server nodes each connect directly to their own 8 core database nodes in a master master setup. This will be changing down the road once the database indexes are trimmed down with some denormalization. The cost for the node balancer, two 4 core and two 8 core nodes is $260 a month but that’s also allowing for some room to grow, capacity wise.
Server software is a combination of nginx, apache (threaded), php-fpm, glusterfs (upload directory only), memcache, zend opcode cache and mariadb. Nginx is the web server in front of apache which serves up static files from the glusterfs file system. Nginx is caching the static content being served up by apache along with full page caching (fastcgi) for anonymous visitors. Cloud flare is also caching the static content and to date we aren’t having any performance issues with IO and glusterfs.
I hope this helps. It can be done but it takes some effort (and money) to do so.
