    Hi @iryna_b

Your question is more bbPress related so try asking the guys over at the bbPress forum.

No the above code doesn’t disable @-mentions in bbpress

You use this filter for bbPress topics:

    add_filter( 'bbp_find_mentions', '__return_false' );

Oh I think I understand, it is working on BP activities but mentions in activities which concerned bbPress forums (topics, replies…) are still linking to profiles.

Should I ask how to fix this in bbPress forums or should the code you gave me above also disable it?

    Thank you very much

As part of your purchase of Paid Memberships PRO, you should receive support from them.

Ask them if they have any email hooks that might over-ride BP or bbPress hooks.

    1.) For invites try: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-secure-invites/
To keep logged out visitors from accessing BP pages check out: http://bphelpblog.wordpress.com/2014/09/27/private-bp-pages/
Usernames can’t be changed and if you don’t want users changing their password you would need to custom code it unless you can find a code snippet on the forum or on the net.
2.) You can use filters and you can also try this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-profile-search/
    3.) Use bbPress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress/
You will have to search the plugins directory, the forums, and google the rest for your requirements unless someone else would like to take over where I left off. Hope this is at least a start. Good luck!

    > I suggest you post this question over on the bbpress forum.

Yet you are posting on the buddypress help forum! ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a bbPress issue and there is a trac ticket and resolution over on bbp site, likely that will in the next bbp release.

You could apply the fix manually in the interim if you wished the trac ticket is located here:

    Anyone?
I was able to delete 1 title, but as for the other one, I’m having difficulties choosing the right selector. In the Firebug, the code I’m looking for stands under div id=”bbpress-forums” and it is <h3>my title</h3>. I’m not sure what to put in my style.css to delete that <h3>my title</h3>.
Could you me please advice me?

Thanks for your quick response, @danbp. I did not include the support information, because I just needed an answer to my simple question; didn’t think anyone would be able to help me with my actual issue, since I am using Simple Press and not bbPress.

Simple Press has a BuddyPress plugin, that integrates some of the functionality of their forums into the BuddyPress activity, and allows the forum owner to elect to use the BuddyPress profile, for example, over the SP one. But I am not seeing any forum posts in activity. I contacted them, but I also was not seeing the forum tab like I see here. I was here for a separate issue, and noticed that forum tab, so I opened this topic to ask about the tab.

Maybe that tab disappears if bbPress is not active, I’m not sure, but I really thought I remembered with the bbPress forums that my member’s posts were mixed in with all the other sitewide activity, and I don’t remember ever seeing a forum tab. I’m on my second BuddyPress supported theme; the first was Custom Community, and now I’m using Matheson.

I’m familiar with how to set up BuddyPress, but thanks for the links. Here is the rest of the info, in case it helps:

    1. Which version of WordPress are you running? 4.0

    2. Did you install WordPress as a directory or subdomain install? If this is either or, than it’s a directory install

    3. If a directory install, is it in root or in a subdirectory? Again, not sure of the question. My url points to the root wordpress folder, but that folder is not in the root of my server, but a few folders in.

    4. Did you upgrade from a previous version of WordPress? If so, from which version? Have had WordPress and upgraded every release for a couple of years

    5. Was WordPress functioning properly before installing/upgrading BuddyPress (BP)? e.g. permalinks, creating a new post, commenting. Yes.

    6. Which version of BP are you running? 2.1.1

    7. Did you upgraded from a previous version of BP? If so, from which version? 2.1.0? I don’t know, the same: Have had BuddyPress for at least a year, upgrade it as releases come out.

    8. Do you have any plugins other than BuddyPress installed and activated? If so, which ones?

(Ones followed by asterisk are not active, since I’m not committed yet to Simple Press. Others I’m getting around to testing, or only use occasionally. Yes, I know it’s a lot.)

    9. Are you using the standard BuddyPress themes or customized themes? I am using Matheson, a theme listed as working with BuddyPress, and it is further customized via css by myself.

    10. Have you modified the core files in any way? No.

    11. Do you have any custom functions in bp-custom.php? I don’t think I have that file.

    12. If running bbPress, which version? Or did your BuddyPress install come with a copy of bbPress built-in? bbPress is deactivated, using Simple Press.

    13. Please provide a list of any errors in your serverโ€™s log files. I’ve searched to try and find these, and I have no idea how to find them.

    14. Which company provides your hosting? 1and1

    15. Is your server running Windows, or if Linux; Apache, nginx or something else? If this might be relevant, I will try to find out. Think it’s Linux.

This is really a bbPress question, buddyPress isn’t responsible for how bbPress handles it’s functionality. Try posting the question on bbPress forums.

Oh yeah buddypress is awesome @ecrip! I’m not complaining just looking for ways to make the most of it.

It’s not just posting to the homepage for me, my members would get on better with it if the feed showed post threads more like Facebook does (as explained above). I know that’s always going to be tricky with it working in tandem with the bbpress plugin for the forum element, but hope there’s some way of getting closer to it. It would also be great if I could get the site working in app form so it displays a bit better on phones and sends out notifications to mobiles rather than just emails.

I massively appreciate all the work of the developers, don’t want to sound like I’m moaning here, just trying to optimise it to keep my members as happy as I can. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m sorry to bump the topic, but don’t know how to edit my previous message.

I was googling for info about buddydrive and I’ve found a forum where they were talking about that plugin and I believe that forum itself is made in bbpress.
Well, an user giving an advice to another shown up in his reply a screenshot.
    This is the forum
    http://theme.firmasite.com/support/topic/buddydrive-and-social-articles-profile-header-error/

I don’t know if he’s using buddydrive or any other plugin, but the result is exactly what I’m looking for.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks all

    hi @caesarhills,

forums are managed by bbpress who brings also the text editor.
This TinyMCE editor – identical to the one you have in the admin or on the blog – comes in a very light version, by default.

He’s not intended to be used by any user like the complete version with the media upload.
For a simple security reason, it is not recommended to allow media upload to everyone.

If you need such a feature, you have to find another solution to allow your user to share their pictures. This can be done on a profile with buddydrive, or within a group with buddydrive or bp group documents.

I’ve ironed out most of the kinks on my website now and most of the members have made the transition from the old Facebook group without too many problems – although, I won’t lie, there have been complaints from a fair few!

The main thing a lot of them miss is ease of access/use on mobile phones. The biggest factor seems to be that they could access the Facebook group via the app rather than needing to use a browser and the instant notifications of mentions to their phones helped keep them feeling involved. I’m not a developer, so there’s only so much I can do, but is it possible to have buddypress site (with busy bbpress forums) running as a mobile app at the same time?

Or is there some other solution I can offer? I’ve explained about email notifications, but members don’t feel like that’s the same.

The other issue is that members are saying it’s difficult to follow threads because on Facebook the original post will appear at the top with replies below and it gets bumped up the page each time anyone replies. I know Buddypress activity posts work a bit like that, but most of the activity appearing on my homepage activity feed is from the forums. Any suggestions?

    Thanks guys. ๐Ÿ™‚

I had bbpress working I think.

I will just reactivate it and then reactivate buddypress. I hope works

    BuddyPress does not provide forums.
It will work together with bbPress to provide forums.

    Get BP working first.

    To set-up BP read: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/

Okay so… the diffference is bbpress & buddypress. So I used a bbpress shortcode. Ok ok. ^^

But if I just attach a page, you say, then a register form will automatically appear on that page? Or is there anything else I need to do first?

EDIT : I made a new blank page, attached it, & now it works.

So my final question & the topic can be closed:
–> Can I create/design a page & then “somehow” insert that same register form on my freshly designed page? ๐Ÿ™‚ ( cuz now its just a blank-page with the form on it. )

Could u point me in the right direction please?

    BuddyPress does not have shortcodes.

    https://codex.bbpress.org/shortcodes/
Then whats this website? ๐Ÿ˜€ I dont understand.

1.If I dont add the shortcode, then this page wont show any form. Only an empty div with the background color.

2.Everything propperly attached as stated in post#1 ^^
    3.No single site.

    Kind regards,

    Nor is mine
WordPress 4.0 running Cosmic Buddy theme
    BuddyPress 2.1
    bbPress Version 2.5.4
    http://lifeplusstyle.com/site/

Registration, signup, Activate don’t work. Takes me to a blank page http://lifeplusstyle.com/site/register/

Neither does the vast majority of the drop-downs in the upper right corner; also takes me to a blank pages.

I have tried testing in several themes including Twenty-Twelve and Twenty-Fourteen. The same issues are present using these themes too.

    @vernontessio,

it depends on how you use bbpress ! As standalone forum or as group forum.

If you use buddypress’s group forums, you create a hidden group which will be only seen by the members who belongs to it and nobody else.

If you use bbpress outside of BP as standalone forum, you can use Private Groups plugin.

Remember also that Everything in a BuddyPress community revolves around its members.
