Thanks again @ubernaut. I think I read something similar awhile back stating that is was better to install bbpress using FTP. I can do it either way, but I’d prefer to do it through BuddyPress so I’ll try that first and see what happens. We’ve backed everything on the site up, so if something goes “awry”…we’ll be ready for it! LOL

I appreciate all your help and I’ll be sure to post here to let you know how it goes! Looking forward to getting up and running and seeing if we can get some of our regular blog commentors to register in the forum and networking areas. This is kind of an experiment for us at this point.

It will be interesting to see what kind of reaction we get here. It appears that most of our registered users are pretty computer friendly…something that’s not always true in the auto industry! LOL Lots of really good technicians out there that can’t answer an email due to lack of computer skills…so I’m hoping that we don’t come up a “bust” merely due to that. But, only time will tell…so, in an effort to waste a little less of “that”…I’ll get started and see what we can accomplish!

Thanks again for the help and we’ll be in touch!

well if your theme says its buddypress compatible that means it was probably compatible before the universal compatibility was part of buddypress so to answer your question no you should not have to change anything, however i would check with your dev to ensure its been updated to work with 1.7 because there are some changes from 1.6 to 1.7 that could effect the legacy compatibility (at least there was for our theme).

it shouldn’t matter the order you install (i don’t think) but personally i would install buddypress first. i used the button to install bbpress from inside buddypress actually. But that was a while ago and i think i read somewhere thats not actually the best way to do it though. maybe someone else can chime in here who knows more then me.

One more question! Sorry! It was an “afterthought”! LOL
Is there ANY order in which to install BuddyPress and bbpress? In other words, should we install one before the other? Right now, we have neither one installed and need both social networking AND forum capabilities.

Again, thanks in advance for any help. This site and the support forums are great. Don’t know what we’d do without it. 🙂

Thanks @ubernaut! That is the information that I wanted to hear. I appreciate the quick response too. Now…I actually have another question. I have heard that the new BuddyPress version is compatible with most WP themes whereas previously, it was not. Is it possible to use BuddyPress and BBpress together on an existing WP installation? Or will we have to “re-design” the site using a theme designed specifically for BuddyPress?

The WP theme that we are currently using “says” that it is compatible with BuddyPress, but I have not yet tried to install it. Just wondering what I might be up against when we intall the two new plugins… Again, thanks in advance for any help! 🙂

bbpress only handles the forum aspects of your site, so if you only want forums but none of the other social network components there’s no need to install buddypress at all. Likewise if you do not want a forum but you still want the other stuff then bbpress is not required. Obviously if you want everything then you want both.

@hiboy Strange. If BuddyPress is activated, you should have what I posted above at the bottom of the page Settings > Forums. Have you tried re-uploading bbPress and BuddyPress plugins manually i.e., s/FTP or cpanel?

@mercime Thank you thank you of replying me , yes is a typo,
    my wordpress is 3.5.1
    bp is 1.7.1

I would like to remove the option 3. Forum, cause i also have bbpress installed, i want user to use 1 forum as global, secondly it also causing a issue, when they create a group forum , the thread is shown in bbpress forum too.

I think to remove this is edit through buddypress plugin, but i unsure how.

the problem is that the capabilities do not actually exist like they do for bbpress and wordpress maybe you should try to ask your questions after the next devchat. @jjj mentioned that they do want to add them at some point in the future perhaps you can pitch in if you are eager to make it happen.

    devchat info here:

What exactly do you want to change in how bbPress plugin generates the url of your forums, i.e., from what to what? Some changes are not that hard to do and some changes might require you to hire a developer.

the topic created is not showing any post created by the user in bbpress, only just shows “Viewing 2 topics – 1 through 2 (of 2 total)”. Is there a way to solve this issue?

The topics created by the user should show up. Use Twenty Twelve theme to double-check.

WP/BP versions? Did you set up the Sitewide and/or Group Forums? https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

@sbnuman first time I’ve seen this issue reported. Have you tried basic troubleshooting like changing to BP Default theme and deactivating other plugins except BP and bbPress?

Is this a scenario where I need to define bbPress as running within a given multi-site blog, perhaps?

If so, how do I determine which $blog_id number applies to the daughter blog in order to set that variable?

    Thanks,
    Zach

Thanks but, like kraigg there, I am running bbPress 2.3.2 so this issue is very much not fixed!

    @dnbrawler
    – WP 3.5 aboe or 3.5.1? BP version?
    – Did you upgrade from BP 1.6.5 or is this a new BP 1.7.1 installation? That is, do you have the old BP Group Forums installed or is your issue with the bbPress plugin sitewide or group forums?
    – If sitewide forums, did you create a new Page for your forums and add the forum index shortcode? If you did, you should use the same Page slug, e.g. discussions, in the Settings > Forums – Forum Archive slug (which should also be the same, e.g. discussions)?

I’m still having this problem unfortunately. But now I’m not so sure if it’s because of BuddyPress or bbPress.

I’ve had to revert back to bbPress 2.2.4 with BuddyPress 1.7, and use bbPress site-wide forums as pseudo BuddyPress group forums. I’ll just keep this setup for the time being until there’s a fix, then I’ll update to the latest version of bbPress.

    Navigate to “Plugins”.

Check to see if bbPress is enabled. Then, go to “Tools > Forums”.
