Participant@modemlooper tanks for the answer, but there is noting on the codex for members loop, the codex documentation is very limited.

ParticipantAs a newbie, I’m finding it bizarre that the system apparently keeps two separate sets of user profile data in two different parts of the world – standard WordPress user stuff and BuddyPress stuff. Right?

ParticipantAuthors post recipes, and user read and discuss that recipes.. That’s basic function of WordPress, (not BuddyPress..).
Tasty Kitchen uses WordPress plugin WP-PostRatings so their users can rate a post by an author.. That’s a WordPress plugin, (not exclusive to BuddyPress..).
What I’d like to say is:
such a basic social feature between authors and readers (which needed by sites like Tasty Kitchen) should be covered by BuddyPress default.November 6, 2012 at 4:26 pm #144602In reply to: SCIREFs.com – A BuddyPress Powered Article Directory

Participantlove the concept..
In my opinion, navigation on the right side should be moved to left side..
Let articles on the right side.. and advertisement space can be inserted between articles..Lately people is getting familiar with sites like Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Blogspot interface layouts which put navigation on the left column..
Just my opinion.. But nice concept anyway..

Participant@mercime isn’t the only ‘expert’ but adjusting custom themes to use BP has become somewhat of a service on this forum but we look forward to 1.7 dropping
.Before mercime does have to dive in to help you out have you actually run through the template pack process as outlined in the BP codex and attempted to get things working, it helps in advance to know what has been tried.
November 6, 2012 at 4:20 pm #144600modemlooper
ModeratorYes, the default of BuddyPress is to show the common social network but you don’t have to go that route. Look at the Tasty Kitchen site as an example. The authors post recipes and they use BuddyPress to manage the user profile and connect ratings and such.

@mercime
Participant@cristian-mihai Initial scan shows that you might only need to create 2 files for BP compatibility. What’s the name of the theme? Theme demo URl? Need to double-check.

ParticipantOkay, thanks for replying @Modemlooper ,
So the goal of this community in creating BuddyPress is just to create a common social-network platform for everyone.. right?
So anyone are free to extend its functionality..
(they can create their MySpace, they can create their Facebook, and so on..)BuddyPress uses WordPress CMS as platform and follows WordPress’ open source philosophy,
but BuddyPress has nothing to do with how WordPress manages users and content.. (as admin, editor, contributor, reader…)If WordPress fans need to add social features to their WordPress authoring activities, they should extend BuddyPress functionality themselves to accomplish this..
Let’s say if WordPress bloggers need to add like button for post and follow/unfollow feature for favorite authors.. they should tweak BuddyPress functionality themselves or find a plugin for this..
Is it right?

ParticipantHi again, @sakarya I’m not quite sure of what you refer to when you say you’re using them for content, but you can customize everything having a group “tagged” as a page. I have scrapped Facebook’s categories and kept just a few that has to do with my own community (www.soysurfista.com) f.e: Local commerce or business / Institution / Surf School / Public or famous person / Professional sportsman / Music artist or band and so on…
Then I list only that “groups” in separate directory pages, and customize everithing in the creation process and the way they look. For example, if it’s a “local commerce” I add a google interactive map with the address. If it’s a person not, of course. You can do preety much everything…

Participant@mercime I tried going through the installation wizard again while on Twenty Eleven theme, but when I get to Theme, the page still shows a complete blank. After that, I uninstalled and reinstalled BP in case the problem was caused by an improper BP installation. Also tried to switch to the BP default theme before running installation wizard. Same problem still. Do you know what else could be causing such an issue?

ParticipantHi @mercime !
Yes, it’s the domain mapping that points to spirituell.ws – It’s a Memberblog of wandlungen.ort, that has a WP Multisite installation with Buddypress.
There are the same members… The only way to register is trought wandlungen.org. And I have the same Members from wandlungen.org that can write blogposts to spirituell.ws, but not all, only those that I have selected manually (from the wandlungen.org members).
Best regards,

@mercime
Participant== What I need, is, to put the Members, Activities, Blogs, Forums, … from Buddypress installed under wandlungen.org also under spirituell.ws. ==
@bomio Are the users/members in spirituall.ws the same users/members in the main site?
Did you want to enable members of spirituell.ws to post to e.g. Forums of main site in spirituell.ws or do you want to have a separate BP installation for spirituell.ws?
Btw, did you use the Domain Mapping plugin to point spirituell.ws to http://spirituell.wandlungen.org?November 6, 2012 at 1:30 am #144580In reply to: Please help Fatal Error BP Media Upgrade

Participantno, I do not want to use poedit. I want to insert an error message generic top to the registration page.
Example here: http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/register/
if you do not fill in the fields properly get this messsage: “Sorry, there was an error with your registration. Scroll down to see your errors highlighted in red. Once you’ve fixed the problems, please click Complete Sign Up again.”
in BuddyPress default is not there, what code should I enter?
Now you understand?

November 5, 2012 at 8:57 pm #144568In reply to: Custom Theme
@mercime
Participant@nicholmikey You can make a WP theme compatible with BP by installing/activating the BP template pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP compatibility process.
– the process at a glance with some “template-packed” WP themes near bottom of page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
– a recently “template-packed” artisteer theme https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/bp-compatibility-plugin-with-an-artisteer-theme/November 5, 2012 at 8:52 pm #144567In reply to: Having problem with BuddyPress and Events Manager
@mercime
ParticipantThe plugin author did not enable the Plugin’s Group Forums in this site. You can post support questions straight in plugin’s WP forums. Go to https://buddypress.org/community/groups/events-manager/ and click on the Support tab/link.
November 5, 2012 at 8:45 pm #144566In reply to: How to make Buddy Press Compatible with Theme
@mercime
ParticipantB. COPY sidebar.php and Save As > sidebar-buddypress.php file
Open up sidebar-buddypress.php and at the very TOP of the file above all other code, add:
``Keep the file open, and at the very BOTTOM of the file below all other code, add:
`
jQuery(document).ready( function() {
if ( jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).length && !jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).hasClass(‘show’) )
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).toggle();
jQuery( ‘input#signup_with_blog’ ).click( function() {
jQuery(‘div#blog-details’).fadeOut().toggle();
});
});`
Save file.
C. Upload header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/themorningafter/ in the same directory where your regular header.php and sidebar.php files are
D. Final note: Copy the style modifications for some BP elements https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/theme-dev-bp-template-pack-walkthrough-twenty-ten-bp-1-5/3/ and paste those at the bottom of your theme’s stylesheet, then adjust to taste.
