ParticipantHI ,
you can use BuddyPress reCAPTCHAUse https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-recaptcha/
the plugin work fine in bp 1.6 but you need to Edit the ‘bp-recaptcha.php’ file to make your settings.
read the installation faq of the plugin.October 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm #144086meg@info

KeymasterIf you want to change the labels on your BuddyPress site, try creating a custom language file:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/Hope that helps!

Keymaster1) Here’s a great tutorial post about Multisite and how to map subsites to domains:
http://wp.tutsplus.com/tutorials/wordpress-multisite-beyond-basics-essentials-and-domain-mapping/2) As for BuddyPress on the niche sites, you might want to look into a BuddyPress multi-network plugin.
There are a few plugins out there that do this.
Here are some examples:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/
http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-buddypress-multi-network-plugin-create-multiple-separate-social-networks-on-a-single-buddypress-install/3) This would require using switch_to_blog() function and using some BP-specific code on the main site I believe.
4) If you use the steps in point 2, then I believe so. If you want to share the same BP data across all your sites, then don’t do point 2 and you won’t have to use a different registration page.
Note: This is all off the top of my head and I could be wrong in a few areas!
Hope that helps somewhat!

KeymasterCriticizing and complaining isn’t the way to motivate anyone to volunteer anymore time than they already do. You don’t like it? Neither do we, and we’re working on fixing everything up, similar to what we did to bbPress.org.
It’s okay to be frustrated, but it’d be great to channel that passion into something positive.

John James Jacoby
KeymasterComing into our support forums and asking us if you should fork our software that’s still in active development is pretty silly. If you want to fork it, go. We’ll miss your contributions, but kindly talk about your future endeavors in your own support forums.

SpectatorThis is something I’ve been wondering about too. The funny thing is they say “search the support forum” before you post a duplicate topic. lol Gee wouldn’t it help us follow that guideline if there WERE a search feature. It’s like me saying look at my homepage ” ” and tell me what you think.
PS – This is not a moderator issue this is a core team issue.

KeymasterThis isn’t the place for this discussion; talk of forks on this forum harms the perception of BuddyPress. There are many ways to contribute to BuddyPress and change things. We welcome any and all contributions. Splitting effort is not the answer.

Participant== Buddypress should have the multi-user and blog options pre-installed. ==
Nope, because not every BP-enabled site requires a network. Besides, that’s the mothership’s (WP) function. Glad you resolved it anyway

ParticipantWP/BP versions? Multisite or single WP? Are you using BP default theme or custom theme? Did you check out https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

ParticipantThank you for your advice!
I’ve followed your instructions but somehow it’s throwing a massive amount of weird and very confusing code errors.
I had no other choice than to start from scratch: I’ve reinstalled WP and upgraded it to WPMU. Next step was re-installing Buddypress and my custom theme. Copied some customized files from the old blog to the new one. It’s still time-consuming.
Buddypress should have the multi-user and blog options pre-installed.
)Thanks,

ParticipantHey guys-hoping you can help me figure out what I’m doing wrong…if I can’t hide or remove the “community” tab then it would seem to be a pretty simple concept to change the order of the tab, but no luck with the above…not that php or css savvy but the instructions here are pretty straightforward so any help is appreciated!
Using latest wordpress version and just installed buddypress yesterday so I would assume it is also the latest version.
My website is http://www.defendersofturntablism.org
I added the line `define( ‘BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT’, ‘preferred_default_tab’ ); to wp-config.php above ‘//MySQL settings – You can get this info from your web host **//`
Created bp-custom.php in plugins folder and added
`function bbg_change_profile_tab_order() {
global $bp;$bp->bp_nav = 10;
$bp->bp_nav = 20;
$bp->bp_nav = 30;
$bp->bp_nav = 40;
}
add_action( ‘bp_setup_nav’, ‘bbg_change_profile_tab_order’, 999 );`Unfortunately all this has done is add the above line of code to the header of my site…can anyone help me figure this out??! Seems like it should be very simple. Ideally I want to have see the community tab go away and have the members section contain the buddypress activity, groups, forums, etc.
Thanks in advance!!

Participant@drdavis74 Per theme’s info page, Huddle already contains the necessary BP template files. So if you did activate BP template pack plugin and went through Appearance > BP compatibility process, then you could have overwritten the native BP files. In this case, re-upload the Huddle theme files to wp-content/themes/huddle/

Participant@buddyok BuddyPress does not limit the number of member-created blogs. Check if you have any BP/WP plugins that restrict blog creation in your plugins or mu-plugins folder or in special BP file bp-custom.php in wp-content/plugins.
October 26, 2012 at 5:56 pm #144035@mercime
Participant@kookidooki WPMU is old school and has been merged with WordPress way back version WP 3.0. If you want to allow your users to create blogs, you’d have to create a Network (go Multisite) https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
I would suggest deactivating BuddyPress and other plugins, plus changing to Twenty Eleven theme before creating a network. Please make sure that your multisite installation is working as expected before activating BuddyPress again. If you have any issues going multisite, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite

Participant@ronnie_fantastic flattery will get you nowhere
and this “legendary creature” cannot guarantee compatibility with Artisteer-generated themes. Having said that, we could give it a try. Do post the codes for header.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files as well.October 26, 2012 at 5:35 pm #144031In reply to: Theme Compatibility

Participant@ouyagamingsource please create a new topic and move the information/questions you posted above which are not related to the subject matter at hand over there.
@ahmedselim open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, paste in pastebin.com, click submit, and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files. Initial scan looks like you only need to create two files for BP compatiblity, but have to see the files first.

Participant@mairaj you’d either have to follow up with the plugin developer, code it yourself or hire a developer to do so.

Inactive@johnjamesjacoby Its cool. I need a break from all this for a long while. I helped with what I could. I will be absent for awhile. I need a real job anyway and the stress of taking this too seriously has burned me out. I am sorry if I let anyone down.
