    Does the validator work when you go to youdomain.com/wp-register.php? If so, then the plugin likely does not support BuddyPress.

    @mercime Thanks! The issue was I was trying to deal with two issues at once: trying to modify BuddyPress styles and bbPress styles, I’ve been able to sort out the details and have posted the remaining issues in a Compatibility thread here:

    Hi @mercime

    I changed it to the default theme and still the same issue. How would I go about editing the page that controls this? Thanks for your help.

    @mercime Thanks, I just checked the link and my template is not listed there… so my assumption is that I will have to modify all the files, correct?

    @mercime

    @ouyagamingsource to make your Alyeska theme compatible with BuddyPress, you need to install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin, the go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process as you’ll see https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/

    You’re in luck, we’ve helped another person some months ago with Step 3 for the Alyeska theme at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/customising-alyeska-theme-for-buddypress/

    If you have any issues re Compatiblity Process, please post at that thread.

    == I am not sure if i can get away with the creation of the three “-buddypress.php” files or if I need to modify the 16 files and which code I need to copy. ==

    @ahmedselim IT all depends on the HTML structure of your WP theme. You just cannot copy the code given for other themes because each has distinct structures and in all probability, not applicable to your theme’s. Have you looked if your theme is listed among the template-packed themes at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes

    @mercime
    Participant

    @elmindo we’re going to have to hard code some of the template structures. Assuming that you’ve already set up your theme, let me know what your choices are in terns of
    1. theme version you used: Full Width OR Boxed? Which one?
    2. sidebar for ALL BP templates: No sidebar (full width) OR Left Sidebar OR Right Sidebar OR Both Sidebars? Which one?

    @mercime
    Participant

    @stefan83

    1. What theme are you using? Did you apply the HTML changes you made to the other BP component changes to your register.php file? Site URL?

    2. please do not make any changes in core files “plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration” as those will be overwritten when you upgrade BuddyPress.

    @mercime

    @yidamweb #2. Not quite sure what you mean by “straightforward” manner because it already is straightforward to me. Perhaps we’ll see your point if you explain what your expectations are when you upload the image and move the cropping tool to cover the area of the image you wanted to show up as your avatar.

    bbPress Update- Going from these directions: https://codex.bbpress.org/legacy/step-by-step-guide-to-creating-a-custom-bbpress-theme/ I created a child from my Alyeska theme and copied the Default bbPress Theme to the child theme folder. This helped get the forum page a little closer to my custom theme style, but still not there yet; the sidebars are missing, the forum BG is white, amongst a few other issues, but it’s getting closer. I’m just not sure where the CSS master file for this page is, I tried editing the two files in the CSS folder but it didn’t make any change: http://ouyagamingsource.com/forums/

    In regards to locating and editing the BuddyPress CSS files I still haven’t gotten to that part yet: http://ouyagamingsource.com/groups/

    @shawn38, you are awesome! I hope they do add it to the core. That would be the best thing since craft beer!

    By modifying the code to deduct points for wrong answers! It’s that simple.

    I would start by going to w3schools.com and reading everything they have on PHP. Then read the codex for BuddyPress. Then, read the code for the plugin you are using and use analytical thought processes to contrive your own solution.

    Basically you want to write the reverse of the code you already have.

    I’m sure you will figure it out. I have faith in you igid26!

    @ethanvan I understand your feelings but you should understand that the software and the team of people that support it does not discriminate against those who do not have coding experience. Its in bad taste to make such a statement because at one time you was a beginner. How would you feel if no one helped or mentored you? Think about it!

    @ethanvan FYI I have already submitted a track ticket #4508 to see if the core team will add the plugin as a core component that can be turned on or off just like the rest of the buddypress components.

    I already have a plugin my friend and it is free.
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-friendpress/
    I can customize it to your liking for some beer money lol!

    I second that emotion @mattriggins. That’s how Facebook operates, one stream with you and your friends, one stream with just you (profile view). I still don’t get why they didn’t build BuddyPress that way in the first place.

    I’m working on a plugin that does exactly what Facebook does but unfortunately it’s proprietary to the project I’m working on and our dev team doesn’t want to share. ):

    Hint hint BP plugin dev community… Deliver one of these as described and you’ll probably make bucks selling it.

    Only plugin that is active is Buddypress. Installed BP FriendPress, same issue. Once I logout, I get a redirect that goes no where and the screen is blank.

    Then, if I open a new window and go back to domain.com, it still shows me as logged in.

    I then opened a different browser, and went to domain.com. I put in my login info and tried to login. I again go to a blank white page, sitting at http://domain.com/wp-login.php

    If I refresh the page on the 2nd browser, it takes me back to domain.com/register

    Strange!

    Well I use xampp and I can assist you better if we are using the same software. I can tell you for certain that something is wrong in your wp-config.php thats causing these errors between buddypress and mysql database.
    Edit:
    Regardless of what software your using I would take a look at your wp-config.php and try to work it out from there.

    @modemlooper – That fixed the specific issue that I outlined. I’m wondering if it would also make sense to add the { path: ‘/’ } parameter to all other cookies being set in the bp-menus.js file? Looking in the BuddyPress default theme’s _inc/global.js file I see bp-activity-scope cookie being set using the path parameter set to ‘/’. What do you think?

    If you can target that element using a development tool like firefox’s firebug then you could use css trickery to make it disappear. Example:
    #a_div {
    display: none;
    }
    That is probably the least destructive way to get rid of it in a child themes style.css If you wanna change the label then use a language file. Its super easy and also is not destructive:
    https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/

    We’ve been consulting with a business advisor that used to work at Bain Capital. This is definitely a legitimate venture and we are very proud to say that we have chosen WP and BP as our core CMS and social networking engines.

    Hats off to the great developers here at BuddyPress for providing a stable and reliable platform!
