In reply to: Modifying output of template_notices.
Roger Coathup
Participant@Khairul We’ve just worked on that this week.
Whilst, the template message is stored in $bp->template_message, it is also stored as a cookie.
It’s the text in the cookie that’s predominantly used (on page refresh) for the notice. To overwrite / change the content once a message had been set, we had to change the cookie.
As @djpaul says, if it’s just to strip paragraphs etc. you could look at the filter bp_core_render_message_content.
Unfortunately, the `
` around it is hardcoded in the core function – and difficult to strip out without hacking the core function.@djpaul — perhaps that’s some output html that needs removing from the core, and moving into the theme in a future release

KeymasterThat sounds pretty cool. Performance improvements to our database structure/SQL queries is something we started in 1.6 release, and have big plans for the future. If you’re willing and able to share your experiences with that aspect, check out https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4060 — or create your own tickets if you found good performance optimisations in other areas other than querying members
Did you write a script to migrate from Elgg to BuddyPress (something you could open source?) or was it very manual?

KeymasterNice site. How did you find the experience building it with BuddyPress?

KeymasterGlad you like it! Please can you report the notifications error as a bug on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org please — you can use the username and password that you use on this site to log in. Thanks.
August 8, 2012 at 1:57 pm #138812In reply to: Buddypress 1.6 multisite help?
Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterI’m going to investigate this, and let you know. In the interim, try setting BP_ROOT_BLOG in wp-config.php to the ID of your subsite — see https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings — and then re-enable the plugin that subsite (not network activate).
August 8, 2012 at 1:51 pm #138810Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterNot in BuddyPress. You could investigate adding a redirect to your web server’s .htaccess file — you might need to ask your host for help how to do this.
August 8, 2012 at 1:50 pm #138809Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterUnfortunately not. It’s a good idea for an enhancement (to be able to get activities by date). Please could you post this as an enhancement ticket on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org? Thanks. You can use your username and password from this site to log into that other site.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterDid you perform the Update Wizard after upgrading the plugin? e.g. first section on https://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/upgrading-to-1-6/
August 8, 2012 at 1:45 pm #138805Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterDoes BuddyPress work fine on the main site after the upgrade? What version of WordPress are you using?

Thank you karmatosed and @mercime
for looking into my problemAugust 8, 2012 at 12:28 pm #138794Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterWe wanted to do more stuff on the Forums page in 1.6, but didn’t want to delay the release any more. It’s one of our immediate priorities, though we won’t be roadmapping the next release(s) for a couple of weeks.

KeymasterAh, that sounds strange. Let us know what you figure out, just in case we did break it somehow.

Participant@shawn38 — the point of the thread, was not having to rename the forums base
August 8, 2012 at 12:14 pm #138788Roger Coathup
Participant@djpaul – ok, yes de-activating the forums component does the trick.
I’d tried removing the page, and selecting ‘uninstall group forums’ from the forums tab, but that wasn’t working. Btw: ‘uninstall group forums’ doesn’t appear to do anything, when you leave then return to the tab, the button has reset itself to say uninstall group forums’ again (or is perhaps just displaying the wrong text).
@mercime – yes, I’d done as you suggest on a previous site, but having to manually add shortcodes isn’t quite the same as getting the default bbPress page.
I guess your new codex entry should be updated on the ‘sitewide only’ section, to say as Paul notes: also deactivate the forums component and delete the forums page.
In general, I guess the Forums Directory page in bp-default should be renamed / better described to make it clear it’s for group forums.

Participant@Paul Gibbs, I saw it vanish while setting Buddypress, the reason why I had the impulse to come here and say “BuddyPress doesn’t show Favicon”.
After find out that it shows without www and don’t with www, I’m more into some server issue or .htaccess misconfiguration.

Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterThe BP Like plugin hasn’t been updated in almost 2 years, so I would suggest it’s not in active development nor being maintained.
August 8, 2012 at 12:03 pm #138782@mercime
Participant@rogercoathup After going through the Installation Wizard where a Forums page with the “forums” slug was automatically created https://mercime.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/bp16-install-03.jpg the first thing I do is to go to Settings > BuddyPress > Pages and select “none” for the Forums page and save. Then I go to Settings > Forums and make sure the archive base is “forums” and that in the BuddyPress section in same panel, made sure that the “Enable Group Forums” option is not checked. Open up the “Forums” page and I just add the bbPress shortcode/s etc
EDIT – djpaul, didn’t see you there when I answered roger’s post

Participant@shawn38, it wasn’t at theme’s folder but in child theme and site public root.
As recomended at WordPress Codex it goes to the current theme’s folder which is the child theme.
Added also the snippet of code at header.php for older browsers to be able of display it.
Just added to default theme folder and he same result nothing changes.

@raminjan Stop creating duplicate threads. It does not help you to get people to respond to your questions more quickly.

KeymasterI’ve seen a few issues with Salutation, I’m hoping they talk to us so we can find out if these issues are regressions in BuddyPress, or because something’s wrong in the theme.
August 8, 2012 at 11:47 am #138775In reply to: BuddyPress 1.6 doesn’t show Favicon
Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterI see no possible way that BuddyPress would affect the favicon showing the favicon or not.
August 8, 2012 at 11:46 am #138774Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterRoger, if you want to use Group Forums still, just change the name of the Page that you’ve mapped to the Forums component.
If you don’t want to use Group Forums, disable the Forums component in BuddyPress, and remove the forums Page.

Inactive@rogercoathup This is how I set it up “After you have installed site wide forums” Go to: Dashboard/Forums/Add New and name it whatever you want. Then go to Dashboard/Settings/Forums and Under “Archive Slugs” rename the Forum base to something other than forum or forums. Save it add it to your menu and you should be good to go.
