July 13, 2012 at 6:25 pm #137274In reply to: BuddyPress dropdown menu is not working properly.
RockJimford
MemberI encountered the similar problem using WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.5.6 when trying to access MyAccount dropdown menu items in Safari 5.1.7 and Firefox 13.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.4. Seems the problem occurs when the menu drops down over the header area – as I too couldn’t scroll lower than Profile on the drop down. I did find that if I stretched my browser window wider in Firefox so that the menu was to the left of the header area completely (ie against the grey background) then the menu worked fine. Same true on Safari too. For info – I did the BP compatibility update using the BuddyPress Template Pack. My site is http://www.hncl.org.uk. I also have problem of all member activity/profile type links redirecting to the homepage – guess that’s another issue.
Really appreciate help on this.

Participant@blinkybill01 there’s a get_sidebar call in index.php and none in page.php, Did you want a/another sidebar in your BP template pages? Better yet, could you create a new Page called Test and link it here so I can see what’s up with your theme’s pages?

Participant@mahdiar Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you will be only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to make the BP templates compatible with your theme.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your complete theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.

Memberhello roger,
thanks very much for your quick reply. i’ve deleted the buddy press folder, but unfortunately that didn’t help… there must be some files that have been changed by the buddy press plugin during the setup process?July 13, 2012 at 4:16 pm #137263In reply to: HEEELP! I activated BuddyPress and my site CRASHED!

ParticipantOnce you’ve done that:
1. Ideally, set up a test environment and try your BuddyPress install / related dev on there first
2. De-activate all your other plugins before activating BuddyPress — it’s likely a clash with one of them
3. Set the theme to the default for now (you can change to yours later)
4. If that all works, activate each plugin in turn to find the clash
5. Finally, switch to your themeJuly 13, 2012 at 4:12 pm #137262In reply to: HEEELP! I activated BuddyPress and my site CRASHED!

ParticipantHave you used something like firebug / Safari (or Chrome) developer tools to see what code it is actually generating for your link?
What’ve you written above looks nothing like a link — has something been lost in your pasting of code?
As, I said earlier in the thread… this is fairly basic PHP / HTML stuff, and not really a BuddyPress question anymore.
Edit:
`<a href="displayed_user->domain?>”>Profile` is how you would write it in a template fileJuly 13, 2012 at 3:42 pm #137258In reply to: Newbie questions about using this forum

MemberThanks for shedding some light. I’ve been able to re-arrange the permalink structure correctly, now to look at processing the new format.
I will have to do a lookup based on group slug in the wp_bp_groups table unless I can see a cleaner way of checking.
No sorry! Just used chess as an example!

ParticipantWhat you recommend?
should I uninstall buddypress’s default installation and go for bbpress 2? And also another thing noteworthy is if you use bbpress as group’s forums you can simply import and export forums, topics and replies easilyJuly 13, 2012 at 1:36 pm #137249In reply to: Custom Permalink and Rewrite Rules for Buddypress?

ParticipantA lot of the BP URL processing is done by component — components register their base URL part (in this case ‘groups’), and provide functions to process the URL and screen redirects.
If you look in bp-groups-loader.php you can see where the slug is set up, and a walk through of the code in bp-groups-screen.php will show you how the screens are being called.
I’m fairly sure but can’t remember for certain, that BP is grabbing the URLs and processing them, before passing any ‘non-BP’ urls to the standard WP URL rewrite arrays for processing.
[Edit: You may be able to hook in before this happens, and do your group processing]. We’ve done this on one of our sites, but I can’t remember the details off the top of my head.
However, how are you going to recognise the endpoint as a group, as opposed to a standard WP page or post? Are you planning to have a test that gets the endpoint and checks whether it is a group name?
p.s. uk-chess-group? Are you going to be at the British in next couple of weeks?

Participant@newpress Please post only if you have something relevant to add to the thread.
As for limiting your member base from commenting / posting too frequently I simply don’t get the point, doubt you’ll ever grow a healthy content rich site by doing that, but each to their own.

Participant@newpress We’ve discussed you pushing this app newpress and I stated that it wasn’t really appropriate on this support forum. On this thread the OP is asking about BP themes and others have responded with some ideas, Oxwall is NOT a BP theme it is not even related to BP or WP so please stop mentioning it on this forum, thanks.

Participant@mercime, I plan on using this theme for at least a year. I tend to switch themes every 10-12 months.
It would be more than appreciated if you could guide me. Thanks!
