MemberI have the same setup as you and when I activated buddypress, I am no longer able to access my wordpress dashboard. I am new to all of this, so maybe I am just missing something. Any ideas/tips for me? Thank you!

MemberI have a similar problem. I’m using WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.3. If I use the default BP theme my main (and only) blog shows. However, if I use other themes, I am not able to get my posts to appear on my “Blog” page.
In the interim, I have put “Featured Category”, “Recent Posts” and “Recent Comments” on the sidebar of pages and posts on the front page to allow people access to blog posts.

I’m running WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.3. I have a different issue in the sense that my main blog is the only blog. The main blog shows in the default BP theme. However, it does not show on any of the other themes.
It is not showing even if I put my Settings->Reading->Static Page->Post Page is the “Blog” page.
How did you solve or fix this issue? Can you kindly explain?

Member@acustica = genius! this worked for me, thanks so much!
I hate all those “deactivate all your plugins” and “only use standard theme” answers — they are not really helpful but guaranteed to waste your time.
What you offer is a fix that works — at least for me with WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.2.9 — let’s see what the fixed version 1.3 brings

MemberHi Mercime–I just gave your suggestion a go and with only WordPress and Buddypress running with the bundled Buddypress default theme, the avatar upload error still occurred… Do you happen to know if there is any server-side configuration that needs to be in place for the avatar uploads in specific? I’ve also asked our web hosting company to look into the error as well to see if they could see anything on the server side… It’s quite peculiar, because all the other media upload areas work just fine…

@mercime
ParticipantHave you checked whether it is a plugin or theme conflict by deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and changing to bp-default theme?

MemberHey Paul–I just now noticed also that the image that gets uploaded is always incorrectly cropped as well. It seems to be automatically cropping to the bottom right section of all photos (large and small)… Very strange as it was not doing this for months before! Is anyone out there experiencing these same troubles with the avatar uploads? I’ve been experimenting with all the other ways to upload images (through the media uploader, from within posts, as well as using the BP Album+ plugin) and all of them work perfectly. It’s seemingly isolated to the buddypress avatar uploads. Thanks in advance for any advice anyone could give me!

ParticipantIn dashboard menu Plugins > Installed plugins > BuddyPress .. there should be a prompt to upgrade to latest version. If you’re not seeing it, you can download BP from

ParticipantYou are editing the wrong file.
If you have buddypress and buddypress template pack and still the buddypress files are shown but not with your theme layout, then do the following steps:go to your theme location: wp-content/themes/ yourtheme
do you find there the following files & folders
activities, blogs, forum, members, groups, registrationin each of them, you will find either home.php or index.php in particular.
these file will have the code likeget_header()
………
………..’this is the code segment you need to replace’
if you find any extra code in between this two lines, save them in a notepad. After doing the following steps, bring those extra codes ‘if any’, back in this segment after replacement.
……….
div id=”content”you need to replace this code segment with that of your theme,
now open wp-content/themes/ yourtheme / index.php
and copy the code segment
php get_header()
………
………..
……….
div id=”content” class=” …………………………………………………….Paste this code segment to the area where mentioned above.

KeymasterWhat is your permalink setting? Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks
I use MAMP on my own machine, but I don’t use the default settings. I wrote a post about it some time ago, where you can read more about how I configure it: http://teleogistic.net/2010/05/setting-up-a-wordpressbuddypress-development-environment-on-os-x/ In particular, you might be having a problem related to your hosts file, or maybe the Apache port settings. This is relatively easy to do using BP-Album+. Just install the plugin (available here) then paste the “Global Media Page” action (documentation) into the user profiles template and set it to filter by the current user.^F^

Thanks for all the hard work you guys put in! We’re looking to integrate buddypress into our own website, should we wait until 1.3, will there be any significant changes to it that would make upgrading a challenge? Is there a page somewhere where we can see the planned changes/features? Thanks!

ParticipantJuly 24, 2011 at 10:39 pm #116857In reply to: Can you multi-site BuddyPress?
@mercime
ParticipantAt this stage, you would need to upgrade Multisite to Multinetwork via plugin. Then via another plugin in beta, have truly separate instances of BuddyPress in each Network of the multinetwork installation, Better read this http://wpmututorials.com/news/new-features/multiple-buddypress-social-networks/
