MemberAm I understanding that there is no single place in the database where user profile information is stored? In other words, do I have to alter core buddypress code to remedy the display of the name on the PUBLIC user profile?
I can’t think of one social network where the user does not have access to the part of their profile where the display name is chosen…

MemberThanks once again, modemlooper.
We’ve been buried in issues surrounding resource utilization in a shared server environment. I’m also grappling with WishList member folks on some errors related to their plugin that are in the php_errorlog. Life marches on…
I’ll have a look at the code snippet you’ve offered and the scripts where you previously suggested that I review.
I do have a question though. Is the BuddyPress database schema available online anywhere?
As “Aahnold” said in The Terminator: “I’ll be back…”

Member@dwenaus fantastic plugin! I am having trouble getting the static tag URL to work. That is, when I navigate or link to:
http://www.domain.com/groups/tag/mytaghere
it redirects to: http://www.domain.com/groups/.
From here you can click the tag name in the cloud, which works fine, but it would help me out a lot to be able to link directly to the pre-filtered group list that displays groups with a particular tag. Anyone else having trouble with this? Thanks!

ParticipantYou will need to go into the members/single/profile/edit.php and add a `
` With the `<a href=""` that the button links to the next profile section. You can get the string from the $bp global https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/the-bp-global/ to help you outMarch 4, 2011 at 1:01 am #106771Virtuali

ParticipantVery possible in multiple ways, to embed an image in status updates.
1. Install @r-a-y‘s handy plugin, oembed for buddypress: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/oembed-for-buddypress/ Whuch gives you the ability to just post the link inside the update and it will appear. It works for videos also.
2. If you don’t want to install that plugin, you can just put the image inside image src tags: `
`
There is also an album plugin which allows your users to upload pictures in their profile albums, and then insert them into status updates.
Good luck!

Participant@FiestyLatina you’re welcome. Note that you will have to implement your theme’s HTML structure to some BP plugins, not all. You’ll know when you have to make the changes when you see the misalignment of your sidebar and content area on the page/s where the plugin is being implemented.

MemberThanks r-a-y! The gallery part certainly looks o.k. in terms of functionality (will look for some examples around to see what it looks like). Forum/groups thing is not the major part, so I guess that can b established as well.
So the only real challenge would be to make sure the members-list will be visible for registered users only. Hmm…I’ll see if that will be a showstopper, I myself am certainly not capable of coding this myself…
Thanks again for your reply!

Participanthttps://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ says:
“If you create a blank functions.php file in your child theme, the parent theme functions.php will still be loaded. This will allow you to inherit existing functions, but also add your own. You must make sure you give your child theme functions a unique name, otherwise they will clash with the parent.”
In other words, you CAN create a functions.php file in your child-theme, but the functions IN that file must have unique names.

@mercime
Participant@StevieG adding footer.php from bp-default to your child theme shouldn’t mess with your install.
So going back to “If I try to access the files in my child theme I get the error message ‘Sorry, that file cannot be edited’.” is this in relation to editing the child theme files via Network Admin > Appearance > Editor panel? If not, what files are you trying to edit and where?
EDIT- just found out you posted same topic in WP Forums and the problem as posted there was clearer

phcapgh
MemberHello,
I am leaving this here in case anybody else is at wits end with this problem. I installed the following plugin:https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/si-captcha-for-wordpress/
It is a capcha for subscriber sign up. Our buddypress has not been released yet, and we were getting upwards of a dozen spam sign ups a day. I installed this plugin a week ago. So far, no spam signups. I hope this helps.

MemberI actually did update to 3.1 and then updated the database. Everything was good until I then tried to update the Buddypress Links plugin. I received an internal server error in the middle of the update and then tried to do a manual update. That’s when everything shut down. Then, my host (GoDaddy) recommended reverting back to the earlier WP version. (They really are no help when it comes to WP. I wish I’d never hosted it with them, but I’m stuck with it for now.)

KeymasterTry BP-Media:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-album/There’s also a paid plugin for this as well:
http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/—
As for members list, you’ll have to either use a plugin or code something that restricts access to that as by default, everything is open to the public.
And regarding a forum for signed-in members, currently BuddyPress uses a concept called “Groups” (much similar to Facebook’s fan pages). Forums can be enabled on a per-group basis, and groups can be public, private or hidden.

Hope that answers your questions for the most part!

KeymasterLooks like you’re still running an older version of WordPress; try upgrading WordPress to the latest version, then you’ll need to do the same thing with BuddyPress.
Read the following articles for help:

KeymasterThe code for CDN avatars is Andy’s; it was running on testbp.org awhile ago.
The core devs should have access to that code since it used to run on testbp.org. Maybe they can ask Andy to release it?Also the code might need to be updated as well to account for a few minor changes to the avatar code since then.

ParticipantNope. Still doesn;t work. I made the php code work but looks like even though the code works now the page still doesn’t seem to recognize me as being logged in.

ParticipantI think I see the problem. Looks like the new wordpress is commenting out the php codes, even though I have php-exec. Hmmm….

ParticipantJust to clarify, I have echoed the following on the front page:
bp_adminbar_notifications_menu
bp_loggedin_user_avatar
bp_loggedinuser_link
bp_loggedin_user_domain… And nothing is showing up, when it used to.

MemberThe tutorial I read about child themes here: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ says you cannot have a functions.php file in the child theme b/c it conflicts with the real functions.php file. So it says to rename it. To your second point, that is exactly what i want to do. I WANT to override the default functions.php file b/c I want to change the default header size. But since the default header size DOES exist in the default functions file you are saying I cannot override it with a child theme?
