you might want to try this out:

    http://wpmu.org/speed-up-your-wordpress-buddypress-loading-time-with-this-quick-tip/

should help a little with the speed, there are othere factors as well…actually a whole bunch lol, you just have to do a little googling.

Nice site BTW, always good to see finished buddypress sites :)

I achieved this by creating a page I called Members and added it to the main Menu. I then added the links shown on the Appearance/BP Compatibility page to the menu using the Menu/Custom links box. To create a drop down I dragged the link name in the Menu box to indent it below the Members menu tab. You’ll need to enable drop down menus from the PlatformPro/Settings/Headers and Nav window.

Only the Members page was needed (although there may be another option).

    Good luck

    @LPH2005

    Hi,
I tried to use cubepoint but I don’t know why it did not work for me. My site return errors.

    Please take a look: http://www.studyguide.com.vn

    Thanks

You mean the BP adminbar :-) Here’s how to have adminbar only in site where BP is installed.
    http://buddydev.com/buddypress/remove-buddypress-admin-bar-from-all-blog-except-the-main-buddypress-site/
P.S. don’t forget to add the opening `<?php` at the top of the code

I can tell you, that it’s not defined as bp_core_add_message.

The messages are a Div class defined in default CSS from buddypress. And the messages are placed in the same position in the php file in every instance you are seeing. There is no universal function for this.

@travel-junkie to be honest, I ‘d prefer if all discussions of that plugin were dropped here as I think I expressed, this discussion is about moving on & looking at new options. If that code was is released, fantastic, it gives us a springboard.
However it doesn’t look like it will be, so lets move on.

Forums aren’t there to get your frustration out there, whatever the reasons. Of course, sometimes you can’t help it, but then you should just move on afterwards. You have to keep in mind that most developers code plugins in their spare time. If Jeff releases his code or not is beside the point. If he does, then maybe some form of privacy plugin might come out of it, if not, then it’s his decission. Once a GPL plugin is released it’s in the public domain and people can build on it. If it’s not released, then nobody has any claim on it. As far as I’m aware, all donators to bp-privacy have been refunded, so the discussion should end here. There are options regarding privacy and for now you’ll just have to do with those.

@aljuk, thanks for the fantastic reply & detail, perfect.
@DJPaul, I’d say that comment was a fair point as many people have been waiting that long since it was expected/announced/later donated to and was on topic in that thread as it was about that specific plugin.
However that’s going off topic on this thread, so lets leave it out.
I’ll try the other privacy options mentioned & report back, thanks.

Nothing like wp_ajax_hook on my code… the code just loaded pages with javascript, no ajax was used there, ajax was just some side cool think like “send a message without refreshing” and super-easy things like that.
Anyhow my suggestion was just to try and watch what happens on that sort of things, I wasn’t actually asking for a new template, that’s just how I have things going and how the problem arose. :)

Thanks you two! =) I vote we build in some sort of notification system to this forum, because I had no idea someone responded to this post just till today! Anywho, I also beefed up the BP signup page… http://avenuek9.com/signup/ … might tweak it some more but I’m fighting all urges not to introduce any more clutter. AND ***AAAANNNNNDDDD*** I WILL incorporate @DJPaul ‘s Achievements plugin once I’ve completed a lot of other initiatives for this site! I swear, once you run a BP site, the tweaking never stops, lol.

Both issues related to the Arras theme integration with BuddyPress albeit via different routes. Bigjimmysisco, patience. Not everybody is using Brownbuddy.

Ah, yeah, if you are trying to access things in an ajaxy way, and you’re not hooking into WP in the right way, you might hit some problems because BP and other plugins might not be fully loaded. Were you using a wp_ajax_ hook? Generally speaking, you can’t simply include BP files manually and have things work properly – all of WP needs to be loaded. https://codex.wordpress.org/AJAX_in_Plugins#Ajax_on_the_Viewer-Facing_Side

I’m not sure I entirely understand your suggestion about an additional template. If you have even a rough sense of what such a thing might look like, I invite you to work up a patch (even a super sketchy one) and post it as an enhancement ticket on trac.buddypress.org (with your buddypress.org user/pass).

@joshua_d I locked the other thread because of your comment, “(Jeff) has held up the development of a working privacy component for over a year now” which is confrontational and simply not true. If you want to discuss further, my email is paul at byotos.com.

Sadly it’s not something I can decide to share, it’s a work and I don’t really feel like asking this thing.
Anyhow the problem I believe was that if I accessed the variables from index everything was fine, friends were found, etc. The problem is that by the means of a javascript slider I use to import pages that then executed the code… maybe this was puzzling some of the very basic variables of wordpress and returned bad results.

What can I suggest to you as developers it to try to implement a custom template (even a simple page that uses the wordpress variables) and on top of that implement some javascript that loads another php page on top of the index (no page reloading) that uses again the wordpress variables… this I think would arise the error again. I think this is a major bug and should be documented / resolved, but it’s up to you ;).
Thanks again for the support. I really appreciated that.

Thank you thank you @elgunvo !!!! I think yeah, being able to check for FB, Twitter and email friends would work great. I would be more than happy to donate to this plugin. :-)

I´m also going to use BuddyPress as an intranet. Its for a company and it is going to be completely locked down if users arent logged in.
Can you please share some experiences with your intranet solution. The biggest question i have is to “lock down” the site when users are logged out. No information is allowed to be exposed. Do you have the same setup? That the user have to be logged in before accessing any information?
I´m thinking about RSS feeds. How can i restrict access to them? I want to have BP email updates instead.
What plugis/hacks are you using to achieve your intranet solution?
What modules/functions do you have active? Groups? Forum? more?
Do you have a solution for sending email updates to users when someone reply to a forum post?

    1. Do you use a plugin like ‘Members only’ to restrict access?

Sorry we couldn’t be of more help. I am really perplexed about your situation. There must be a conflict with something else in your setup, as I have never heard of this kind of problem before. If you ever feel like sharing the code you wrote to replace it, feel free.

Turn off WP_DEBUG, or if you haven’t set it, set PHP’s error reporting level to something like E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE ^ E_USER_NOTICE.
We’ve fixed these in the upcoming 1.3 release of BuddyPress.

I’ve discovered that if I access the page outside the scope of buddypress and wordpress (that is, accessing to the direct link without passing by my website) the thing returns a correct result for the friends (if I hardcode the input of course).
What could this mean? I require_once in my index wp-config.php and also in my friend_page (which is loaded on top of the index, in a slider that comes down). Is there a problem with this approach?

    #104674

    mercime, thanks much for that.
