Participant@imjscn So to round of the thread Jenny (just in case you were still wondering) you simply need to create the directory ‘languages’ in wp-content WordPress looks for this and defines it if not set otherwise, Buddypress now mirrors that process and also will check for the languages folder in wp-content but you must be running 1.2.7 for this change.

ParticipantIt took thecoup actually replicating my process to convince me
That isn’t entirely the correct approach, it is up to the individual , where possible, to test all possible conditions to be able to rule them out of the process of troubleshooting. To base ones belief that something ought to work on past experience is flawed, simply having performed this extremely simple process of a manual install would have saved a lot of time and a lot of human resources in trying to troubleshoot this for you

One click installs are for newbs, don’t be one, don’t use these horrible automated systems; FTP and SSH are simple enough protocols with easy to use apps, and working this way gives you greater control.
Just to recap on this thread:
On page 1 modemlooper gave this advice: (note the bold text)
Just a tip. Never use one click installs. Create the database and upload the WP files. I can’t say this will fix the problem but it could be worth a try. Your hosts one click could be broken.
cmroybal -replied:modemlooper: Thanks for the tip. I have successfully installed around 10 other websites with WP via one-click install and have never faced any problems like this with a plugin. There might be a conflict between the Buddypress plugin and this type of WP install, but I haven’t heard of anybody else identifying this as a problem before.
What do others think?
Flawed logic is apparent! what may have happened in the past does not necessarily hold true for the present situation. You appear to rule out modemloopers suggestion based on the fact that you have never heard of anyone else identifying this problem – we need to keep in mind here that installing WP manually takes around 2 -3 minutes. you end that comment by passing back the onus to others , at this stage it is irrelevant what others think, testing the possibility was the correct course of action.modemlooper – replied further:
I’ve used one clicks and on occasion it’s broken. If you can do a manual install I’d try it.
yet again modemlooper urges that the manual install is tried yet it seems to fall on deaf ears

Sorry to come across in this manner but it’s a useful thread to highlight where time and resources can be wasted when simple tests are not performed.

KeymasterUpcoming BP version 1.3 fixes this.
In the meantime, read this:

Participant@stefrusso The heck with it — I just went into the database and hand-edited the description field in table wp_bp_xprofile_fields.

Moderator@cmroybal When software is tried and true like WordPress and you have issues at install. It’s usually the install process. That’s why I suggest a different install method. also the same thing has happened to me before with one clicks and now I never use them.

MemberI’ve fixed the same problem in my buddypress child theme.
I put a copy of header.php in the child theme and replaced the line:
`
<a href="” title=””>
`
with this one
`
`
Seems to work.

MemberI can confirm that your method to troubleshoot my particular problem was successful.
So the final verdict: Do not use Dreamhost’s One-Click Installs to install WordPress if you want to use BuddyPress. Instead, do a manual WordPress install and continue from there.
Thanks to everyone for their help! Hope this information saves other people headaches in the future.

KeymasterYou can modify the registration template to remove the blog creation checkbox.
If you’re using the bp-default theme, create a child theme and then copy over /bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.php to your theme.
Change this:
`
<input type="checkbox" name="signup_with_blog" id="signup_with_blog" value="1" checked=”checked” />
`
to:
“
Next, change:
`
`to

KeymasterI am the “culprit”; I edited the codex page as it was a little too confusing in my eyes.
I also wanted to remove the step to create a bp-custom.php file, as it is unnecessary in BP 1.2.7 and up.
I’ve just taken some time to update the codex page once more:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/And am using @modemlooper ‘s screenshot from:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/tutorial-how-to-edit-or-translate-words-in-buddypress/—
Feel free to edit!

MemberNo takers on this? Sorry to bump it.
I’ve gotten to the point where the friendship is accepted but the friendship status doesn’t seem to be updated. The notification still says “Friendship Requested” and the “Add Friend” button changes to say “Friendship Requested”. I can’t work out which step I’m missing as I still don’t really know how BuddyPress stores and works with all this stuff.

Participant@imjscn try hunting for a plugin called KB robots text it allows you to edit the WP robots text from the dashboard and might be handy to have available.
