KeymasterIt really depends on what you want to do with the wiki. If it’s going to be a workspace for individual members or BP groups, I would recommend something like https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-wiki/, or the new plugin that I’m building with @dwenaus https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-docs
If you want your wiki to be more along the lines of Wikipedia – a shared knowledge base, visible to all members of the site as well as the public – then MediaWiki is pretty good, but it’s a bear to integrate and keep integrated. You might accomplish something similar by setting up a blog on your MS installation as the ‘wiki blog’ and then enabling a plugin like http://wp-wiki.org/

KeymasterSorry about that! I thought it would work. Looks like BP is missing some template tags for this.
This will work.
Add the following to your theme’s functions.php:
`
function bp_topic_poster_is_admin() {
global $topic_template;
return BP_Groups_Member::check_is_admin( $topic_template->post->poster_id, bp_get_the_topic_object_id() );
}function bp_topic_poster_is_mod() {
global $topic_template;
return BP_Groups_Member::check_is_mod( $topic_template->post->poster_id, bp_get_the_topic_object_id() );
}`Then use this in your template:
`if ( function_exists( ‘bp_topic_poster_is_mod’ ) ) :
if ( bp_topic_poster_is_mod() ) echo ‘Group Moderator’;
endif;`January 16, 2011 at 9:10 pm #103047In reply to: redirect to /register

MemberUsers are redirected to the /register when they enter for the first time to the main site but from there its possible to navigate all the site content. I have tried to deactivate all plugins but that don’t helped a lot.
In other hand when we type in browser link to post it works without any problems. So its like that:
When new non-loged user types in his browser my site address hxxp://wwww.eziny.net he is redirected to wp-signup.php?new=mysite and from there to the hxxp://www.mysite.com/register/
Do you know how to change that @r-a-y ? Its very irritating.

KeymasterIt’s a server thing with the way the *press.org sites are hosted; don’t ask me the specifics as I have no idea!
If you really need to show an avatar, then follow what modemlooper said.

I’m not ready to use Gravatar. Why can’t I just change avatar without Gravatar?

r-a-y
KeymasterBuddyPress’ forums are group-specific like the forums on Facebook’s group pages.
If you’re looking for a traditional forum, then stick with phpBB.
Also, stay tuned to the new bbPress WordPress plugin:
https://trac.bbpress.org/timelineThere will probably be an alpha release for that in the next month or so.
January 16, 2011 at 8:39 pm #103034r-a-y
KeymasterCheck out /buddypress/bp-groups/bp-groups-templatetags.php.
In particular, here are the conditional functions you’re looking for:
`bp_group_is_admin(); // will return true if the user is a group admin
bp_group_is_mod(); // will return true if the user is a group mod`
Use in a conditional statement and you’re good to go!
eg.
`if ( bp_group_is_mod() ) echo ‘Group Moderator’;`

r-a-y
KeymasterIt’s better to be clear when posting!
You can use this snippet in your theme’s functions.php:
`function ray_bp_get_the_topic_last_poster_name( $name ) {
global $forum_template;return str_replace($forum_template->topic->topic_last_poster_displayname, $forum_template->topic->topic_last_poster_login, $name);
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_the_topic_last_poster_name’, ‘ray_bp_get_the_topic_last_poster_name’ );`This snippet is part of my BuddyPress Usernames Only plugin, which you might be interested in:

KeymasterIf your site has open registration like you say, then users shouldn’t be redirected to the register page when they’re trying to read a post.
Do you have any redirection or private BuddyPress plugins installed?

ParticipantShouldn’t that line be:
`if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() || ($bp->is_directory && $bp->current_component == ‘your-links-directory-slug’) )`
The added param should be between parentheses ‘cuz the “&&” applies only to the “is_directory”, no?

MemberHello @r-a-y
I’ve done like you said. Now I have child theme for default buddypress theme and I’ve added some text to the register.php page that says that users don’t need to register them selfs on the page to read our posts.
But I’ve realized that is only temporary solution. I still need permanent trick that will fix this automatic redirection for new users to the register page.
My question is: where we can find code that answers to that redirect and change it? I’ve searching it for a while without any success. Please help.

KeymasterIt must be an problem with your theme. It’s not a core BuddyPress issue.

Member@Travel-Junkie and @iamjoshfrank I’ve just implemented your ‘sh walled garden’ code to shield my community pages from prying eyes, and it works great.
I was wondering however if you knew a way I could make an exception for the BuddyPress Links Directory (it’s a plugin, so there is no kind of conditional tag for this, as far as I know).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ParticipantNo plugins and hacks aren’t really needed just some simple observation it does after all clearly say how to display/render code in posts but this is an issue that occurs on many forums. Some tender loving care is also due the bp site, in respect of this issue some strip tags need to be employed much as posting in WP does with allowed tags, trouble is people still need to pay attention (no offense intended to the OP ) and use the provided mechanisms for post formatting and that applies to all forums.
