@jakeyboy1989 from your WP forums post as well – If you just want to make your WordPress theme compatible with BuddyPress, you don’t need to create a multisite installation.
Install and activate the BP Template Pack Plugin and go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process. Then post back here if you require further assistance.

Hi, @shawn38 I have updated the code in the previous comment I made with that bug fixed. Please copy/paste it now and it’ll work fine. As you mention, my “example” has an image (loading bar gif) included, that you can easily add by adding some style and the image. In my example, I used:
<div id="loadingActivityMessage">Loading...</div>
Buddypress seems to have written over my wordpress database when I tried to install it. Normally I assume this is supposed to be normal but my theme was not compatible so it did not install. Now I want my original wordpress database back. Is there a way I can do this?

I have a custom form that I’m using to update user meta data with but it’s not jiving with Buddy Press.
Here’s the code I have in to update…

update_user_meta( $current_user->ID, ‘first_name’, $new_first_name );

Where “$new_first_name” is the value entered in the form.
It’s not working on the email or password fields either… where I have the following…

wp_update_user( $args );

These things work on other non-buddypress sites, so I’m thinking it has to be how BP stores the member info.
I’m using this to populate the form with the user’s information…

$current_user_data = $ud->first_name;

That works.
Does anyone know the function call to update the user data?

The reason I want the two sites to be connected is so that my authors can network and get points, rankings, etc, for the posts they make (this was a feature requested by my users).
The key thing for me is that my users want the social features that I can provide through buddypress, but it is difficult to integrate with more extensive framework based wordpress templates (at least it seems that way for me) so I would love to be able to have buddypress on the same site, or a connected site, that has its own template and is hidden from users.
Also when I say authors it might sound misleading because this could be potentially 500-1000 different users so they need group and discussion forum features..
Hi, @jafar1374 I think there’s a misunderstanding. The Default theme is the one this site is using: http://www.soyskater.com/ and the one that http://patomatlovers.com/ is using is not. Neither way I think you’re needing some designer’s help to achieve what you want. To separate any boxes you should add something like “margin-bottom:20px;” in the current css stylesheet but for that to look ok your theme should have some style to actually make differences between each widget block, ie: “border:1px solid #000” just to make an example.
I just create three groups in a row on testbp.org. Worked fine.
I’ve reported this as a bug since nobody was able to give a solution to me.
Thanks @mercime– I got the Home Page sorted and changed the general settings, but still can’t view or get the ‘registration’ page functioning. It appears that the pages ‘activate’, ‘activity’, ‘forums’, ‘groups’, ‘members’, and ‘register’ were all created when BP was installed and activated. However, when clicking ‘view page’ on both the ‘forums’ and the ‘register’ pages in the WP pages menu, it links to ‘Home’- the static Home Page I created- instead of a ‘forums’ or ‘registration’ page… Not sure what the issue is. Do I need to reinstall BuddyPress after having changed the general settings?

Strangely, calling get_avatar() still resulted in blurry pics. When I used the bp_core_fetch_avatar function, it worked perfectly.

The function didn’t work as is, but when I changed item_id to “$comment->user_id”, the avatars worked on my theme.

I am new to BuddyPress and this is my first install. It is set-up on a multi-site and it is all functioning with the exception of 2 things:
When I click on the “Activities” page, it just redirects to the member listings.
When I try and click to view a profile page I get the same issue.
I am running the very latest WordPress and the latest BuddyPress as I just installed these last week. It is all in the root directory. I am hosting with Dreamhost. BuddyPress is installed on a subdomain and I am using the BP default theme. My server is Linux; Apache.
My bp-custom.php includes:

Actually the data from bp_activity Tabble deleted sometimes on 1 day ,sotime on 2 day randomly with `type` = ‘activity_update’ OR `type` = ‘new_blog_post’ OR `type`=’new_avatar’ but not all the table itself deleted.
I contact the hosting company and they sent me the log files and i can not see any delete query related to delete activity from bp_activity table.

Hi, in my Buddypress 1.5 install, the activity stream shows truncated updates (excerpts). There is a “[…]” after the truncation, but no active link.

But it doesn’t show up.
Does this need to be enabled somewhere? Is it a bug?

Yes, profile extension, have some question about that and i think for to even install buddypress is the most important part is the user profile interaction with his own work, as a portfolio, so they can show their art. And of course information about themeselves and so on. Something similar to http://cghub.com/ , http://bad-koala.cghub.com/ for example their profile look like that with image gallery. is it any plugin that can make this happen?

You can add this to wp-config.php:

Is there a function similar to current_user_can for BuddyPress forum roles?
I would like to say something like:

Your wp_list_comments() call specifies the callback as a function called “mytheme_comment”, which is probably in your theme’s functions.php file. You’ll need to use these functions in there, or modify what you have already.
For an example, look at the code block just below the phrase “You will need to define your custom callback function in your theme’s” on https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_list_comments (get_avatar is used six lines from the top)

Improving performance at the very-high (millions of users, groups, activity, and so on) is something we’ll be working on in BP 1.7, but I wouldn’t worry about *if* it can scale up to 10 million users unless you actually have 10 million users on your site right now.
If you do, great; set up a test installation of BuddyPress, find a way to migrate some of your content in, and see how it goes.
