There’s just so many things wrong going on, have to go at it a step at a time. You need to give additional information like WP 3.0.1 is multisite or single? The home URL goes to UShareNH.com/1/ so you installed WP in /1/ subdirectory or is your BP installed in secondary blog? Also, almost all of the links in your home page goes to HTTP Error 403.18 page. It’s more likely your server configuration that’s throwing off the site – server can’t handle the load, crashing etc.Was WP functioning well before you installed BuddyPress? https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/ Special check on your WordPress configuration. If not, then you have to resolve that at WordPress.org forums before installing BP.

BuddyPress doesn’t do this out of the box. That’s why the plugin Invite Anyone exists. Why don’t you want to use it?

This is something I’ve been trying to do for several days. I’m surprised that there doesn’t seem to be an option within buddypress to do this, and that nobody seems to have made a plugin that does it.

I’ve never made a wp plugin before…nevertheless I require this functionality. Ankit I’ll let you know how it goes, but in the meantime ANY responses to this thread with any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

@dtclarinet – can you share how you reset the database? I’m not using the plugin mentioned, but rather wp-fb-autoconnect. Could that cause the same issue?

Thanks for the help. I understand how to create additional groups and fields. In there it says only fields added to the base group or ID=1 will be displayed on the registration page. Looking at Dorothy’s page it looks like she has multiple groups in there. I wanted to do the same. I don’t see a way of creating a group under that base group.

I could create all of the fields under the base group but this will cause display issues under the profile. I want certain info to display in a certain order (company and contact information). Code in register.php only calls one group. Not proficient in php enough to change it to call one or more by ID. Obviously the base group is 1. Can change this to any other but need to add multiple. i.e. group 1 and 3. Any ideas would help me a lot.

By running Buddypress on what is now called wordpress Multisite will I be able to link all members together. Another words…I want to have a social community that is broken into states and was thinking of having a site for each state so groups and blogs would better organized and such. What I want is all members to still communicate across state lines (or site to site in this case). Is this possible with a multi site setup? Or my other option is that I use one site setup and find a way to catergories groups (into states in this case) Example…Users clicks on groups and shows a list of the states… that user then click on the state they want to enter and then it shows all relevant groups within that state. I looked for a plugin, but none that are working full strength at this time unless I am overlooking something. Anyone have any ideas on how to handle this? thanks for you help in advance.

No short cuts on jQuery – but it’s quite straightforward to setup a simple script like you’ll need: their site is good and full of useful examples: http://jquery.com/

show() and hide() are basic jQuery – and there are plenty of animation options you can apply.

Also, take a look in the WordPress codex re: wp_enqueue_script – their recommended way of loading javascripts.

Yes, the mu features are now ‘built in’ to WordPress – have a look on the WordPress Codex for WordPress Multisite (and ‘setting up a network’).

We have no problems running BuddyPress installed on a secondary blog on one of our current development projects

As soon as I saw the name Whitby I thought “That rings a bell” and had to search back through the archives at CSSCreator, nice to see the domain flourishing although it was the ‘Sea Anglers’ site you were working on back then.

To clarify for the thread real-whitby is presently a WP site and quite an evolved and customised one.

As has been said you have all options available to you really as to which is the best one to take I’m not to sure, I think it’s fair to say the most work would be to activate BP on the primary root blog, creating a secondary blog would be an easier option but I’m tending to think that a physical subdomain i.e community.real-whitby the easier route along with user blogs as folders, community.real-whitby/glensblog.

I’m not entirely sure of the best approach, you’ll probably need to experiment on a localhost test install to get a feel for the amount of work required and how the various options work in practice.

The ability to attach a flier would be nice. Also, the ability to sync events into Facebooks via API or something, if that possible?

I’m moving this discussion to the original DIYthemes forum thread for this child theme in order to keep all the bug reports and updates in one place. However, if there are folks on the BuddyPress forum who’d like to help with development of the Thesis BuddyPress child theme and would rather discuss it here, let me know and we can… heaven knows I need help to keep it going (because of time constraints and because I don’t use BuddyPress on any sites except the test site for this theme).

@whitbyglennk installing BP at the root is the ideal scenario. However, it can be installed in a secondary blog of installation as well. Rephrasing @LPH2005‘s question earlier, what do you have at the root of your public folder that you cannot install WP 3.0.1/BP at root?
