It’s pretty easy to redirect users after login. Something like http://buddydev.com/buddypress/buddypress-trick-redirect-users-to-their-profile-on-login/ will work.
If you only want to do it the *first* time a user logs in, or only if the user has not filled out the profile, it’s trickier. Before returning `bp_core_get_user_domain( $user->ID )`, you’d want to check against some piece of data, such as `get_user_meta( $user->ID, ‘last_activity’, true )` (which will tell you the last time the user logged in, which I believe will return false if it’s a new user).

Now… here’s a thought. Is there a way to redirect a user after registration directly to their shiny new BP members page so they can edit their profile, upload an avatar, etc? At the moment it takes them to the ‘check your email’ WP functionality that exists by default.
The client was curious about having the sign-up form submit to both WP and BP but I don’t think that’s going to happen, and redirecting from one sign-up form to another just caused more headaches…
@naved – Put it in wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php . Create that file if you don’t already have it, making sure to begin it with
`<?php`
and ending it with
`?>`
I don’t know of anything that will, at the moment, allow for the kind of “rating” you’re asking for here. I assume you’d use BP activity as your ‘ideas’, though you could also have a custom post type (which would require coding).

If you want the ability to include media in activity items, you might check out https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-plus/
You don’t need a plugin to do the first part. Just use groups, plus https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-group-reviews/
Categorization will be trickier, and will require some sort of custom plugin. This plugin may help get you started: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-tags/

@hnla, completely agree about the trouble shooting steps. Since the code is spread in all the places(bp-custom.php/plugins/themes functions.php). It is really difficult sometime to find the culprit. Appreciate the steps you guys suggest and follow for the purpose. Let us have some feedback from Naved to find the error 
@sbrajesh tbh when I read “into their home page” I imagined the OP might actually be using your plugin for re-direct but the post is unclear and needs clarification. It’s vital to try and get across to people how to perform basic troubleshooting so that they can come prepared in advance with the kind of detail that’s needed to help out.
First rule of thumb is to disable plugins and return to default theme if the issue goes away then you know it’s either a custom theme or plugin issue then when the actual item has been identified questions can be addressed directly to the author or of course brought here.

I currently have a Suffusion Theme installed on my website and have the Buddypress Compability Pack installed on my Buddypress, I’ve just installed the latest version of wordpress 3.1.3 and previous version was 3.1.2. Now I’ve had no problemes so far on my website, but now that I’ve installed the latest WP version when I want to make a new post and press on the flash/java icons to add media or add photos on the post it doesn’t work! Or the upload box opens on a full page, but even that doesn’t work.
Also on my Dashboard menu, options are unaccessible!!!
WHAT IS GOING ON? Help would be much appreciated, I’d happily give you a screen shot if it’s of any use. Unfortenatly my website is password protected so I can only make screen shots.

I wish to create a site where people can submit things, say just an idea for example, and people can rate that item. Required functionality would be:
1) Logged-in user to submit an idea
2) Logged-in users to rate idea
3) Anyone to search for existing ideas
4) Logged-In users to leave comments under idea
5) Submitter of ideas to have an overall rating that takes into account all their ratings over all ideas
6) Submitter status based in rating (e.g. 0 to 100 = Noob, 100 to 200 = Beginner etc.)
Can someone please advise which points I could achieve without having to write custom code? I have been looking at Drupal for some time now and came across BuddyPress quite by accident. It looks very promising,

Agree with you. and btw, the plugin predates the functionality in BP. At that time, there was no such redirection functionality in bp.

hi @hnla @paul gibbs …when ever my user sign in some times it directs them into their home page and sometimes it directs in wp-admin
though i appreciate the hardwork of wp team bt still i dont want my user to view wp-admin area …my users have subscriber role how to stop them plz any 1 out there
@mercime – Took your advice, reuploaded BuddyPress and /register still redirects back to the base site.
What I meant by reinstalling WP is similar to what I just did with BP – download a fresh copy of the install from wordpress.org and manually overwrite the files on the FTP site, with the exception of wp-config.php so it still points to the right DB with the right credentials.
I believe this WP was installed manually, but the server does include some legacy folders that have nothing to do with WP – drupal, etc – which I suspect may interfere with the overall performance of the site.

@hnla @Paul gibbs i think the problem is preety much solved i dont know how it has when now i m creating any groups it is showing just once …..bt now thw problem is how to delete that duplocate groups ….like vuniteu is 3 times bt i need it only 1 times so how to do that …? plz help me in detail
