MemberThanks a lot, folks, I appreciate the feedback. Just to clarify:
I do want users to be able to create blog posts that funnel into a master blog (community blog). Whether they have a place that is their own blogspace is irrelevant as long as they never leave the site. In other words, a social networking site where a community blog is one of the features.
I think what I want is probably Community Blogs for BuddyPress (https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-community-blogs). The difference, then, would be this plugin means all posts go to a single blog and WPMU means all posts each have their own blog which are all served from within my site?
I’ve looked at some BP sites that have a list of blogs such as this one: http://dangerous-minds.org/blogs/
That’s WPMU, right?
Also, glad to hear they’ll be rolled in together with 3.0!

ParticipantI’ve made the changes mentioned above. so that if you have a bbpress install at a different location, the plugin will work.
I’ve added the ability to hide karma points. it is accessed in the admin.
I also noticed a bug with how the karma rating was showing up on the members page and fixed it.
the new version is 1.2 and should be visible here momentarily: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-rate-forum-posts/
enjoy.

Participanti’m not sure (i’d really need more info from you and the steps, data entered into a post reply, raw db data for the post content, etc)… the only common filter is
group_forum_post_text_before_savein which this plugin replaces the bbcode with html before db insert.looking at tweetstream and the function
tweetstream_topicReplyandtweetstream_twitterItthat pushes out to twitter – maybe it is not escaping properly.twitter revoked my api access for using tweetstream – so not something i can test out.
—
I did notice one thing tweetstream sets the _before_save filter at priority 9 – where as bbcode is at priority 11. And it looks like tweatstream only sends the topic_title content (something i’m not filtering on at all)

ParticipantYeah, the idea has been kicked around a bit, it’s definitely a good idea, no doubt about it. I know this is on Andy’s radar (it’s been mentioned over IRC), but like ray said, implementation is a beast. I’m currently exploring different options for implementing tags & categories for Group Documents. The current plan is to utilize the WP Taxonomy “bucket”, and see how that goes.

ParticipantThis plugin is really sweet, but as Andy points out, it would be even better if we built some BP functions into it. I would love it if when you register you could map your name, location, etc to BuddyPress fields.

ModeratorPossible conflict. Not really sure.
I think this is conflicting with the tweetstream plugin each time a post gets sent to twitter it causes a \ before every ‘
This did not happen before I started using this plugin. so if you have a word: we’ll ends up as we\’ll
any thoughts?

ParticipantIn fairness I guess that this post on this thread wasn’t too helpful and got a lot of hopes up especially given the implied timelines and nearness of completion:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/most-effective-events-plugin
Great News! Heard back from Erwin re bp-events and he authorized me to post an update (quoted)
I am working with Dave Aubin to make bp-events work with 1.2,
including the new templates. That is just days away (I hope), then
I turn the code over to Sven who has been working on integrating the
excellent jQuery plugin FullCalendar (and has the code ready to go)
once I hand over the bp-events 1.2 code.
I tell you, working with the new template system without any
documentation has been quite the chore as I am sure you know as well.
Once that is all working I will release a preliminary version
and work on some additional features/widgets.
So, I hope bp-events 1.2 comes out within a month of the
official bp 1.2 came out, so in all, not too bad!
BP 1.2 was released on Feb 16th so I think it’s safe to ball-park a working copy around mid march, by his estimation. Suffice to say I am fired up.

ParticipantNice, really love the 3d style, colors are great too, I like very bright colors (fan of gaming and anime).
I’m working on a BuddyPress site in 3d style right now as well.

Only thing I have against the website is the big banner on top, I know you have to put it somewhere, but it really stands out like this. To a point at which it is annoying.

Anonymous User 1502623
InactiveI’d be quite interested in hearing opinions on my next proposed step to resolve this.
I’m currently building a website for a friend who is on United Hosting’s most basic 200mb webspace package. Out of curiosity, I installed Buddypress. It worked. Immediately.
So, I had the little idea of registering for a brand new, basic hosting package for one month (£5 to get this sorted is perfectly acceptable I’d say) where I will install Buddypress on it and get it configured.
I could then import the database tables of my other wordpress install on my other hosting package and go from there, importing themes/plugins etc back bit by bit being very careful as to avoid getting the internal server error again.
I cuold then cancel the old hosting account and stick with the new one, upgrading it to the hosting package I’m currently on. Is it hard to import and export a rather large WP databse with other 2400 articles in it?
Is this solution advised? I can’t think of anything else.. nothing as immediate, anyway.
That said, if it’s something in my WordPress database causing the internal server error, I guess I’m as good as screwed.

Participant…I want all member blogs on a single site…
If you want to offer your members their own blog, then you will need to use WPMU. The fact that each of your members has their own blog does not mean they have their own site. All the blogs are located on and served from your site.
If you only want to have one blog but offer a social networking layer on top of that using BuddyPress, then single-version (solo-blog) WordPress is all that you need. But, with both WPMU and WP, BuddyPress will allow you to create a social network. As Andy says, the only difference is whether you want to offer your members the option to create their own blogs on your site.

Participanti’d like very much to see some possibilities to get some attraction for devs …
I think buddypress is very promising for the future but needs some additional functionality ( i think i wont post here again what i’d liek to have
). Problem 1: I don’t have enough money ( and i think there might be others feeling the same) to pay devs for the whole work
Problem 2: If someone had the money to let them add additional functionality, they might not make the product (code, plugin) he payed for public …
so if there was a fund where anyone coudl give some money and BP would manage the money this could work …

KeymasterThe debate about the wire vs activity stream has happened several times already on this board, so it’s probably not worth rehashing it, though for what it’s worth xspringe I think you make some fair points.
For the moment, if you want to keep the wire, use the backward compatibility plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-backwards-compatibility/

ParticipantRole scoper plugin and a plugin of your own (mean you’ll have to create this) which tells buddypress that a certain role from role scoper must be taken when a user joins a certain group.
Shouldn’t be that hard.

KeymasterI can’t wait to get the new buddypress.org forums up on this site so I can silence this discussion. Please people — you need to understand that there is no difference here, it’s just how it is displayed. You do not need to join a group to post in a public group forum.
