KeymasterNicola Greco developed a series of plugins months ago that tied existing media accounts into your BuddyPress profiles, but I haven’t heard much of them as of late.
With WordPress just now starting to fill its own shoes in terms of its media library, BuddyPress won’t really start to flex those muscles until WordPress is more capable at its core.

ParticipantYou assume people are trying. I’m not at all certain that that’s the case. (I sure wouldn’t want it on my site.)
As far as ‘anywhere’ goes, you might want to take a look at this.

KeymasterUpdate: Just checked the latest changelog and Andy has just added initial threaded activity commenting in trunk.
I guess it’s relatively safe to say this feature will be a part of BP 1.1.3!

ParticipantExactly the same problem here. I upgraded buddypress to 1.1.2 from 1.1.1 and I have MU 2.8.5.2
@geekjon Have you found a solution?

John James Jacoby
KeymasterExtended Profile – Basically the profile fields you setup for your audience
An example would be here at buddypress.org, if you wanted to search for people who put “puppies” in their interests field. Rather than searching for puppies and possibly getting someone with the name “I Love Puppies” it will isolate your search down to the field you’re searching in.
Clear as mud? Haha

There are more detailed instructions here:

I hope that helps.

ParticipantThe phrase “A Member” does not appear in bp-wire-templatetags.php. It does appear in the options in the menu “Settings > Notifications”.
I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking? What version of BuddyPress are you running?

ParticipantAs Burt has not been around the forums or on IRC for 10 weeks, I would not count on this particular plugin to be updated anytime soon. In fact, at this stage, I would assume it will not be updated at all. You can PM him and see if you get a response. If you do, please ask him to post here as well.
Remember, all the plugins on the WP plugin repository are GPL so anyone could take his work, update it, add to it, and rename it and call it a new plugin–with the appropriate credit given to Burt of course.

ParticipantOK, created a trac enhancement request per Jeff’s suggestion. Hope I did it right
.Here.
By the way, I wasn’t thinking that this would be implemented as something required or anything like that, or even that it would be used for quoting excerpts of what people have said. But when people did use it (and once they noticed the functionality, further use would presumably just emerge) without really thinking about it, as they already do, it would be kinda delightful to have it provide notification functionality (which could be turned off, too, I guess).
Just a simple link to the posted item, wherever it might appear, that has @myusername in it as notifications in my buddybar and maybe a stream in my messages inbox area somewhere. But those would be implementation details, if the general idea is deemed a good one.

Participantvery nice looking plugin! however it doesn’t seem to work with the latest version of buddypress 1.1.2. It seems that the group contents link is missing the group name (when you change the url manually, you see the contents page.)
also, the members’ content link just shows a blank page. any idea if development will continue on this interesting plugin?
is there a live demo of this plugin somehere?

ParticipantI love this and have implemented the KalturaCE server on my server but when I try to activate the plugin, I get a “missing KS” error. Is this something normal or is there something else I need to do to activate on a KalturaCE server?
Thanks for all you do.

@mercime
ParticipantThe code must be dropped at or near the top of your wp-config file.
Yes! That worked. Thank you Scotm.
I had searched the forum re how to defining which blog ID BP was going to run in, couldn’t find it so I posted question in https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/run-buddypress-from-sub-blog-or-blog-id-2
KeyMaster or Moderator – please change the topic Run-buddypress-from …. to “resolved” or delete it entirely. I had started that thread using dropdown “not resolved” and after posting, I couldn’t add tags. Nor, after finding the solution in this thread, could I change the status to “solved” or post and refer solution to this thread.
Thank you.

KeymasterIt isn’t possible without some kind of plugin, but it is possible with one.
You would want to take a look at the buddypress/bp-forums/ directory to see how forums are created within BuddyPress to begin with, and modify that existing code in your own plugin to modify that behavior and turn it into what you’re trying to accomplish.
The code is in there to do what you want, you just need to make it do it.
November 12, 2009 at 6:47 pm #56576In reply to: what about bp-plugins?
John James Jacoby
KeymasterRight now BuddyPress is more in the core-creation stage. We’re trying to get everything working step-by-step to where we want it to be before we can really start thinking of how to allow the world to plug-in to it correctly.
Right now the roadmap doesn’t really include anything like this at all, but I suspect something will sneak its way in eventually.
November 12, 2009 at 6:36 pm #56574John James Jacoby
KeymasterIt’s very possible there is a JS conflict between plugins, but it’s less likely there is a conflict in the core WordPress files (though not impossible.)
Since the cropper tool relies on JavaScript entirely to function, it will fail without any real degradation if there’s a JS error or the user has JavaScript disabled. The first scenario is more likely to upset people, as if someone specifically has disabled JavsScript in their browser, they’re probably used to getting jipped on their web experience.

John James Jacoby
KeymasterUser and avatar information is stored in wp_signups before the account is activated, and it is moved into the user, usermeta, and xprofile tables upon activation.
It would seem you’re experiencing a different issue than what you describe.

KeymasterNovember 12, 2009 at 6:13 pm #56568In reply to: what about bp-plugins?
John James Jacoby
KeymasterIt’s a good idea and one I’ve tossed around, but the problem is that it would need to exist outside of the wp-content/buddypress/ directory to avoid automatic update problems, and people wiping out the plugins folder on accident (if they do a manual upgrade for example.)
Something like this may still happen down the road, as BuddyPress grows and a need for specific methods to register plugins with BuddyPress increases. At the moment it isn’t necessary because BuddyPress plugins are actually just normal WordPress plugins that may take advantage of BuddyPress features and API’s. (At least, that’s how plugin authors should be writing them.)
What will need to happen for sure is a way for plugins to tell BuddyPress “hey I’m here and I want you to know this information.” It’s possible to alter the $bp global directly to do these things, but tighter integration into the platform makes sense.
My opinions are subject to change on this one, but today that’s how I’m feeling.

InactiveAfter uploading the themes to the server, they were available in “apearence” I selected and activated. Then I went to site admin -> themes and clicked on “Yes” on Avenue K9. The I did F5 on another FF tab to see how it did looked like, and got a blank page. The themes working at the moment are BuddyPress Default, BuddyPress Social Network Parent Theme and those that come as default on wordpress.
