    will install this on a pre-production site, will see if it fulfill my needs… right now by the look of it, it is great…

    et si Chouf1 ne fait pas la traduction fr_FR, je vais m’en charger… :)

    Edit:

    first missing feature, when we enter a new category in the BP Links, no alert is displayed to tell the entry is done, and the fields are filled with the last entry we’ve made, so it looks like the page reload without saving… but it is saving, as when we submit again, we have an alert… make the alert for new entry done, and empty the fields please… :)

    change the slug for this addon, as “links” is already by default on WP and is used in a lot of themes…

    My unofficial opinion (which is subject to change at any point) is that it’s a great idea if you and your audience are okay with you not hosting that data on your server.

    I’m selfish, so I like to have control over everything so I can take responsibility for it if I break it. I also like to be able to dive right in and fix a problem if something happens instead of making a telephone call or sending an email.

    At the end of the day BuddyPress will have its own media management eventually, and BP developers can choose to use the built in one, or something like Kaltura. It’s the same as outsourcing your comments or forums to another service. If you trust the provider and it does what you need, then there’s no reason not to use it.

    I just tagged 0.1.1 which fixes the bugs mentioned in this thread so far, as well as some tweaks to the translatable strings to support argument swapping.

    You will also now find a .pot file in the languages/ directory.

    Some form of media manager/gallery is a future BuddyPress feature. Until that is made available, you will have to look to 3rd-party solutions.

    Just be aware of the issue of licensing when using Kaltura. Although Kaltura.org is self-described as open source video, and in fact its component code is licensed under GPL3, when you use the hosted solution–that is you are not storing your users’ media on your own server but instead on a Kaltura Media Network server–then all of your users’ content is automatically made available under the Creative Commons 3.0 license. See this Kaltura forum thread:

    What does this mean? Well, it means you better clearly state to all your members that anything they upload via your site will automatically get licensed under CC 3.0. This means it will be freely available to anyone else to see and to use as they see fit within the CC licensing specifications.

    That may not seem like a big deal to you if you are a fan of CC, but you should not assume that all your members will think the same way or necessarily want their content to be made available for free use.

    Thankfully, there is a solution. If your using the self-hosted version of Kaltura.org–Kaltura Community Edition (CE)–then you can set the licensing rights for all member-submitted content. This means you can effectively control the privacy of your members’ content if that is important to you, your site, and your members.

    If you choose to use Kaltura CE for your site, then you will need to make sure that you have sufficient storage and bandwidth to meet the needs of your site. Also, I have no idea of what kind of tech support Kaltura offers users of the CE version.

    Finally, Kaltura is a for-profit company who is freely offering an open source media hosting solution via their kaltura.org site. They do offer premium services as well. So, if you have the budget, you can purchase a premium account to make all your users’ content private. At least that is what was indicated in the thread response in the first link above. You can visit http://corp.kaltura.com/solutions/video_solution for more information.

    Note: look at the footer on the above Kaltura link to see how they handle the CC issue. I would argue that you would also want to make the CC issue very clear in any TOS and actually right under any media “Upload” link.

    @Xevo.. that’s true.. But it seems that wordpress/buddypress does something special when you resize using .css.. the avatar actually gets loaded in the size you specify in the .css… if you view the image it’s the same size (so not the original size of the image which gives bad results quality/data wise)

    Install firebug in Firefox and check for page load JS errors.

    <?php echo bp_core_fetch_avatar( 'item_id=' . get_the_author_id() . '&type=full&width=125&height=125' ) ?>

    BuddyPress 1.1.x only.

    ok… this is odd… if i use a non bp theme… for my home… it works… but the standard bp parent… themes… it does not

    Yes, same thing here… (I didn’t upgrade, it’s a fresh buddypress 1.1.1 install).

    Everything runs fast, only where it needs to output activity (profile, groups, etc) it really takes ages…

    As far as I know, there isn’t a administration panel for bbpress in buddypress. That’s why I’m planning to integrate buddypress into bbpress, much easier to make moderators as well.

    And since it’s not a important feature, I don’t see Andy or JJJ making it any time soon.

    Good to hear. Just tested and I can confirm it is fixed.

    Therefore I seem to have another js conflict on my local test install. How can I find out what is causing the autocomplete not to work?

    Should be fixed.

    heres what I would do… delete what you have added for buddypress in the plugins menu… in you backend… go to plugins >>add new… search for buddypress…. and install it from there…. this method cuts down on errors….

    @vick717, As for the mobile solution maybe in time ,you could release an API so that twitter clients can implement it !

    Am not sure it can be done…

    Hi,

    still no joy.

    The error log shows:

    [Fri Nov 06 10:31:16 2009] [error] php-script: line 8: 21868 Segmentation fault /usr/bin/php-cgi

    [Fri Nov 06 10:31:16 2009] [error] Premature end of script headers: php-script

    The RewriteBase is spelled correctly in .htaccess

    I have an older version of MU and Buddypress working on a different domain on the same server and I think they are configured the same. But I don’t know enough about server config to spot what is causing this error. I’m going to try my host again…

    @vick717, Again job well done and the progress on this media is great and the future.

    Maybe, when most features and wishlist are done,it could be the default media plugin !!

    look forward to the features etc !

    The original plan for Kaltura plugin was a solution for media back then and maybe now.

    As for the buddypress core team. Andy said when ready an album plugin will be made.

    Therefore, I’ve been working to get a good solution for a media plugin and this new developer team has got the job done !

    More media solutions the better choice for all !

    @Svenl77

    yes offcourse kaltura can be implemented in groups and various other components.

    Kaltura provides wonderful API so that you can configure it with any component of BuddyPress.

    Is it possible to use Kaltura in groups and other components if needed.

    There must be a way to implement kaltura in other components so people are able to develop based on the kaltura plugin. Similar to the wire, forum components and so on.

    Hi, if you send me (arjdan@gmail.com) the pot file I’ll make italian translation for your link plugin.

    Thanks

    @Michael Berra

    Your first two suggestions are technically feasible and we will try to include this features within a month.

    Regarding the third suggestion you made :

    As long as you are using Kaltura Server, and you being an admin of uploaded content, you have full control over media content being uploaded!

    And once you have KalturaCE @ your own server, its all up to you ;-)

    @all

    thanks for all your encouraging feedbacks and comments. :D

    @Gpo1

    mobile support may not available as if now because of the kaltura dependency. But we may work on it and may release it as far feature.

    @levin

    Definitly to upload contents, youshould have partnerID from kaltura ,also there are bandwidth and space limitations.

    But not to worry…Using KalturaCE (Kaltura Community Edition;Kaltura’s Open Source Solution), you can configure “your own Media Server” !!! and Buddypress-Kaltura Component provides flexibility to configure itself with either kaltura.com or your own KalturaCE.
