KeymasterUser fields are sanitized if you are using the standard BuddyPress template tags or function calls.

ParticipantHiya, here’s what I’m trying. I’d like to password protect my entire BuddyPress install with one username and password (I’ll change it from time to time).
Here’s BuddyPress’s htaccess file
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /community/
#uploaded files
RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/$ index.php [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !.*wp-content/plugins.*
RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/(.*) wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2 [L]
# add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*/wp-admin$
RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1/ [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule . – [L]
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*) $2 [L]
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L]
RewriteRule . index.php [L]
<IfModule mod_security.c>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>
To which I tried to add:
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /home/username/sitename.org/subdirectory/.htpasswd
AuthName “Community Name”
require valid-user
and I made a .htpasswd file too.
Possibly because I installed into a subdirectory of an exising WP install, it winds up going to sitename.org and nothing is protected.
I will try the whole thing in subdomain.domain.org to see if I can get the htaccess stuff to work.
So, can anyone point out how I can just password protect the whole BuddyPress site with one username and password?

KeymasterBuddyPress trunk, make sure you update again.
Put them anywhere in wp-config.php above the “stop editing” part.
No, just the template files in the /themes/ or /bp-themes/ directories.
It should take no time at all to edit the template files and add those two lines. It’s only a suggestion though, if you want to translate that is fine too.

ParticipantQ1) Latest Buddypress Trunk or MU Trunk … I assume buddypress… i have it running of the latest buddypress svn ?
Q2) where do i put these in my wp-config.php [spotskenya/wp-config.php]
define( ‘BP_GROUPS_SLUG’, ‘spots’ );
define( ‘BP_MEMBERS_SLUG’, ‘spotters’ );
?
Q3) “Then just edit the other names in the actual template files, there is nothing wrong with that. The template is meant to be edited. “
what is the template files? are they the core things in [spotskenya/wp-content/mu-plugins/] or in the theme????
wont this take ages and be harder to do than the language thing??
Sorry for all the basic simple questions

Before opening in POEDIT, open it in your fav text editor, lines 8 to 16 (assuming word wrap isn’t on) need to be filled in with your own values. Save and close
what are the values meant to be…

felix2009
ParticipantIf you just delete the bb_ tables, and remove the files who belong to bbPress, then you are just fine. There are no specific tables (as far i can see) who are used by buddypress in combination with bbPress. If you ever plan to install bbPress again, just install it in a seperate database, that also just works fine in combination with WordPress <> bbPress

So:
1: Delete bb_ tables
2: Delete the bbPress files.
And youre actually done with the uninstall

ParticipantBuddyPress is to build a social network! For a newspaper you can use a simple CMS.
That drupal module looks strong, it has a lot of interaction with Picasa! However, I think photo galleries in a social network are more like a way to share moments rather than a tool to showcase personal work or store/backup images.
Personally, when I use the photo galleries at Facebook with my friends is to share photos related to something specific (a party, meeting, birthday, old photos from school, etc). They have enough quality to be downloaded (but they won’t be useful if you want to work with them later).
Using a third party service like Picasa or Flickr makes your site depend on other site to work, and forces your users to open an account on any of those services (users don’t like registrations, and even sometimes they don’t know how to link one account with other). I know this won’t be an issue for the average person in this forum, but future potential users will have problems, and we have to think every single thing to be as fool-proof as possible.
If you are concerned about storage, maybe you can use a professional service then (like Amazon S3). But if it’s about privacy then it would be better if you don’t host photo galleries at all. Privacy is another thing that needs to be reviewed at BuddyPress!

ParticipantOh no, @Enrico, classifieds are THE core function of every local newspaper, which is essentially what Buddypress is, when you think about it.
But if you want to do a photo gallery, take a look at this guy’s Drupal module: http://drupal.org/project/picasa
I was impressed at how seamless it was. Personally I’m nervous about being responsible for people’s personal photos, especially when Flickr and Picasa do such a nice job of it for free. That module made me realize It’s better to have a good “glue” module than an excellent standalone “gallery”.
@Zenseeker, I tried wp-classifieds and Classipress and both left much to be desired. No worries, I have a nice jQuery/ajaxy theme I may be able to ransom off to get what I need.

Participant@21green: That idea sound nice, I\’ll consider it too.
@Jtbailey: The project sounds like a nice coding challenge, but I don\’t think it\’s relevant to the actual development of the BuddyPress \”core\”.
@Nicola: Don\’t worry, GSoC is every year and I think a developer like you won\’t have problems entering in the future!
What do you think about Photo Galleries?

[22:33] apeatling: you will need to increment the DB numbers
[22:33] apeatling: DB_VERSION
[22:33] apeatling: at the top of bp-groups and bp-xprofile
[22:33] apeatling: then log in as a site admin

[22:34] Westy: how do i do this… you will need to increment the DB numbers
[22:37] Westy: for bp-groups.php it is this on line 16 >> define ( ‘BP_GROUPS_DB_VERSION’, ‘951’ );
[22:38] Westy: what is “incriment” and what do i change it too?
[22:40] Westy: this is what it is on bp-xprofile.php line 16 >> define ( ‘BP_XPROFILE_DB_VERSION’, ‘948’ );
[22:40] apeatling: just add 1 to the numbers
[22:40] apeatling: 952 and 949
[22:41] Westy: ha… that easy…. ok ill change them… then login as admin… and see if it works… ill be right back
