I can try taking a stab at that in a few days. It would be nice if ideally the syntax was the same between all BuddyPress installations (even though some use subdomains for blogs and others use /blog syntax).

Any suggestions on what the ideal URL syntax would be for all of this?

    /home/andy – home?

    /blogs/andy – all of andy’s blogs?

    /profile/andy – andy’s profile?

Thanks for the feedback. Please post bugs in the bug repo:

I believe Will Norris is having a look at this. He’s just completed the OpenID v3 plugin for WPMU, so it’s a matter of porting it to BuddyPress.

That is actually what I’d prefer and that’s how MySpace works but users could also request more blogs under this system (just as they do now in BuddyPress) as WPMU allows users to be assigned to multiple blogs, I’d just like their first one to be on their username subdomain instead of an entirely different subdomain.

There are also user online plugins for bbPress for those who have integrated forums and are looking for other alternatives, though the one I linked above definitely works with MU.

I’m looking forward to the chat plugin duanestorey. I’ve hosted chat rooms before but it’d be nice to have one that ties into the MU/BuddyPress login system.

There is going to be an album plugin, it’s just not finished yet. For more about it check out the about page.

As for what features it will include I don’t know off hand but it wouldn’t be too difficult of a task to add ratings and comments I presume if they weren’t included.

Same idea here https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=25#post-92 , where Andy linked to this topic :).

I think we need to discuss more about it.

We can handle such URL like http://domain.com/andypeatling/home or http://domain.com/user/andypeatling simply by customizing the home theme. Instead of using another theme for the home base, let the home theme handle it.

I hope the other components have enough flexibility to be used in such way.

As far as I know this plugin should work with BuddyPress, I know it works with WPMU 2.6.2.

There’s a privacy plugin available for WPMU, but it works on the blog part only and I’m not sure how well it would work with Buddypress.

    For number 2 see: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=26

Number 1 is not possible right now, but a plugin could be written for this.

This is on the roadmap but probably won’t make it in for the first version:

In the first version for the end of the year, BuddyPress will only support open networks. However, the plan is to put together a generic privacy component which can be used by all components to restrict and allow customizable privacy levels.

    See https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=26 for number 5.

The rest of them are a no at the moment, but plugins could be created to add all of your desired functionality.

Possibly, but it does rely heavily on the way URLs are structured at the moment.

    See https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=26 for more information.

I’ve created a trac page where people can list details of custom components they are creating:

    https://trac.buddypress.org/wiki/custom-components

If you can start of the list and add some details there, that would be great. Once we have a couple of useable ones, I’ll add a tab to the main site with more information and download links.

Until the bbPress integration is fully done with BuddyPress I just integrated bbPress with WPMU. I’d speculate that the global forum should actually be the easiest to implement since bbPress can already integrate with MU’s user tables.

Also, will the bbpress dashboard be in the buddypress dashboard? Meaning, not 2 seperate installations?

    Thanks a bunch.

What I’d look for in a default theme is not necessarily the styling but the functionality. It should provide all possible features of BuddyPress and be documented reasonably well to make customisation easy. Hardly anyone will use a theme out-of-the box anyway. If anything you wouldn’t want to overload it with too many styles and graphics :).

The theme looks nice and goes with the look and feel of the BP profile theme.

By the way, what will the criteria for the active/popular groups and members tabs be?

@brianbrey – Yes, I’m working on it right now. It’s important for this to be in the first version of BuddyPress.

Wow. I’m super impressed and excited for the future of buddypress. Do you think a version 2 will be part of the dec release?

Keep up the great work Andy!

@MrWiblog – Not sure exactly how the “Hot Posts” will work yet. It was more just an idea. A rating system would be good if there is one out there that would work?

@milo317 – Everything is dynamic, although content will likely be cached to reduce server load.

@wildebees – I think a site wide activity feed shouldn’t be too tough. Every members activity is cached in the DB, so merging those together to produce a site-wide feed should be ok to do.

@Member – Site wide categories and tags would be a big plus. Not sure if that will make it by December though.

@orangeguru/dazednconfused – Some people love padding, others hate it. :) Thankfully you can edit the CSS, so it should be fairly simple to tighten up the theme.

@exchequer598 – I think someone was working on a BuddyPress video component, but I’m not entirely sure.

    @trent @andrea_r – Thanks!

Some stuff already available by using WPMU plugins:

    – sitewide feed

    – recent posts across the system

    – latest blogs or members

    – member list

    all over at http://wpmudev.org/plugins.php

Remember, Buddypress is a plugin for MU – mind you, a really extensive plugin. Other sitewide features can be added the same way they get added in WPMU, it’s just a matter of figuring out if what the end result you want is pulling directly from a BP function or a regular MU function.

Yay! I got featured on the screenshot :-).

Great work Andy. I remember someone asking for video support. Maybe you can download some free FLV player and brand it ‘BuddyPress Player’ or something and use it for video content throughout the website!
