I’ve just reinstalled Mu 2.7.1 and Buddypress 1.01 again and this time I can select the bpmember theme from within Mu Admin under Buddypress settings. However, I cannot post from any buddypress field. Every buddypress post action seems to be undefined as wp_explain_nonce is being called.
I can still perform any post action with WordPress Mu.
Regarding installing bbPress, you will probably need to create a page in your primary blog with the slug of “forums” before WordPress will allow access to it.
If you’re new to BuddyPress then chances are you haven’t been down this road before, but I’d advise you to check out some of the stickies and FAQ’s here and spend some time getting educated on all the subtle nuances.
This question has been answered quite a few times, so I’ll give you a hint and if you still can’t figure it out, come back and we’ll see what we can do.
HINT: Check the functions.php included in wp-content/themes/bphome/ and compare it to the functions.php in the theme you're trying to use.
Sorry for the continuous posts. I just tried to add the bbpress into the site. I unzipped it on the server, renamed folder to /forums and when I type it in, it says site doesn’t exist…something that didn’t occur before WordPress Mu/Buddypress.
What is your install configuration like honewatson?
By the way, my site is:
http://tinyurl.com/fnnation
The Register function does not work with the theme I am trying to incorporate which is Old School, which uses Hybrid. It does work with Elegant Grunge.
Hey:
I just began work on a WordPress Mu/Buddypress site. This came as a suggestion from a friend when I asked how to combine a Ning site and a WordPress site on same subjects. Right now, I’m trying to get everything working yet have several questions.
1) New users cannot register. It says /register does not exist…the option for new user registration is enabled.
2) How can I make all the site, including the Buddypress aspect to use same theme?
3) Is there a way to create events on Buddypress?
I had a related problem which I resolved temporarily by renaming the ‘bpmember’ directory in wp-content/bp-themes to ‘default’:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2835#post-17511
3155637Inactive
bump…
Googling around because I’m having the same issue. Only I’m running bpmember that comes packaged with buddypress and making basic css modifications. On the directories, the links and functionality of the bars don’t appear, but the divs do.
Did this get fixed? If so, how do I implement the fix?
Well this is what I get in the list:
WordPress Classic (1.5)
WordPress mu Default (1.6)
WordPress mu Homepage (1.6)
Are you sure that you’re looking in the proper spot? The theme list you provided is what you see when you go to “Site admin > Themes”. These are the themes from which you can choose your home theme.
To choose your member theme, you need to go to the BuddyPress menu grouping all the way down at the bottom of the menu column. So, as Burt indicated, you would go to “BuddyPress > General Settings > Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages”.
You choose the member theme from the combo box. With a default BP install you should only see two theme choices: BuddyPress Default Member Theme (1.0.1)–this is the one you want–and, Skeleton BuddyPress Member Theme (1.2).
Are you saying that instead of those two themes showing up in the “BuddyPress > General Settings” menu area that you have the home themes you’ve listed above?
I moved bp-themes into /wp-content/ as directed but still got the error message.
Under the “Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages:” in general settings the option for using the ‘bpmember’ theme was not appearing. I could only select the default wordpress mu themes. I selected the ‘Default’ theme and then renamed the ‘bpmember’ folder to ‘default’ to get this working.
Eg:
..wp-content/bp-themes/bpmember/
Renamed it to this folder:
..wp-content/bp-themes/default/
This is probably a silly question but i want to check before getting started on plugins with my buddypress
Can I use any wordpress plugin or can I only use plugins made especially for BP (or maybe only plugins for WPMU)?
thanks!
Thanks a lot Jeff and John James!
I went with alpha in the end because I don’t think my ftp was deleting all the files

thanks guys
The only rewrites I’m using are these: http://is.gd/11Izw
I really don’t get this either… Frustrating as hell!
It shows up on the list like that because that’s where bp is looking for it’s themes. In the /wp-content/themes dir. It shouldn’t be. It should be looking in /wp-content/bp-themes.
Do you have any kind if aliasing going on for the dirs?
I’m looking at the code that does the theme hijacking and can’t understand how it’s failing.
Just set it, and the contents, to 777, and no change.
Permissions on the /bp-themes dir strange?
Here’s the deal. I had successfully installed WPMU + BuddyPress into my root directory for my website (andrewliesenfeld.com) when I then decided I should move it to a sub directory (andrewliesenfeld.com/site) and stupidly enough thought I could do so without looking at any instructions.
From there I fell into alot of problems trying to get the directories corrected and the URL’s set right. I did all that and now everything is working fine..except BuddyPress. BuddyPress was working great before I moved it but now every time I try to open a page under “My Account” I seem to always receive a Not Found page. I don’t know what to do. I have searched and searched and found many problems similar if not the exact same to mine and there were few of those topics around. Basically they said it was your .htaccess that needed correcting but the problem is I have tried to correct my .htaccess and it hasn’t helped my situation.
So if anyone can help me that would be wonderful!
Thanks,
Andrew
Its obviously reading the contents of my wp-content/themes directory, so I tried moving bpmember from bp-themes to wp-content/themes; sure enough it now shows up on the list and I can choose it.
However, I’m still getting the error on user pages. I’ve reverted back to the original setup and still trying to work this out.
The main problem is that BP isn’t recognizing that the folder exists…
Well this is what I get in the list:
WordPress Classic (1.5)
WordPress mu Default (1.6)
WordPress mu Homepage (1.6)
Because I looked there.
Go into the wp backend Buddypress > General Settings
Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages > Buddypress Default Member Theme 1.0.1
Make sure that is selected and Save the settings
The latest version (v1.2.1) of the Skeleton Component for BuddyPress plugin developers can now be found on the WordPress plugin repository.

Spoke too soon…
Although the bphome theme and the plugins are all working correctly, I get an error trying to access frontend pages:
You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.
Please move “/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/” to “/wp-content/bp-themes/” and refresh this page. You can download more themes here.
However, they are definitely installed in /wp-content/bp-themes/ and I’ve re-uploaded multiple times. You can see here:
http://getconcero.org/wp-content/bp-themes/
Any ideas?!
Fantastic! Can’t believe I didn’t try this already but after deleting the buddypress files and re-uploading everything is in working order!
Must have been a dodgy upload perhaps? Either way, thanks so much for helping me with this. You’re time’s really appreciated.
