I think the reason you haven’t gotten a response here is that people are having trouble understanding what you are talking about. Are you using wpmu 2.7.1 as well as bp RC2? wpmu 2.7.1 is required.

Also when you try to logout from adminbar using ie8, it won’t work! You are still log in no matter how many time you try to log out from admin bar. Please help?

This will pretty much allow for unlimited access to any BuddyPress data from any other part of your site in a very straight forward and easy way.

Outstanding work and great write-ups too!

    Check out:

…and find the topic that explains how to change the BuddyPress logo. :)

    Ghost in the machine?

No WordPress/BuddyPress/bbPress install can push out an update, only pull.

That means you have to request the files yourself.

Something strange happening on my install.

I didn’t touch my computer for the day, and I only use my laptop to configure my buddypress install. But my buddypress is updated with the latest release, as of 29th. So my custom file and translation files are deleted by the buddypress update.

If my server is hacked, I’d know…but it’s only buddypress acting strange not wpmu or any other files on my host.

BuddyPress offers no additional permissions or restrictions settings at the moment. Everything you need can be found within WPMU itself, or bbPress Admin itself.

    At the moment…

    Hey community…

I have the first round done of a plugin/widget that builds a jquery-powered slideshow from your latest posts. I was wondering if there was anyone here who would be interested in alpha testing, and providing feedback on the design/functionality/code/personal grooming.

And if you are a wpmu security guru, your feedback would be especially appreciated.

If you are interested, pm me or reply to this thread and I’ll provide a link for download.

I’m having the same problem. I just installed BuddyPress 1.0rc2 today, and it’s the first WPMU install for me, and obviously the first BP install as well. I’ve been running WP for over 2 years though, on the same server (different domain), with complete success.

The install seemed to go fine, and I followed the instructions to also use the BP-home theme for the WPMU home page as well (it fails with any of the 4 choices of home page themes).

The site comes up correctly in IE7. In Firefox (3.0.10) and Chrome (2.0.174.0), no CSS gets loaded.

I’m running this on CentOS 5.2, using NginX 0.7.53. WP runs perfectly.

It’s not an “access” problem. Firebug shows that the CSS file is read correctly (and I can see all of the lines in there, so NginX is serving up the CSS). But, for whatever reason, FF and Chrome both decide that it’s not CSS, and just ignore the styles completely (Firebug says that there are no style elements on the page).

Looking at the NginX debug logs, IE takes the css file with an “Accept: */*” and FF takes it with an “Accept: text/css”. Otherwise, I don’t see any obvious differences.

If I code up my own html file, and use the exact same syntax for the css <link> line that BP generates, FF will _correctly_ parse the css file.

The only thing that seems strange in the BP generated code is that the HTML fails the W3C validator for including an “id=_wpnonce” in the hidden search form field _two times_. But, if I remove one of those lines, FF still fails to parse the css.

Here are the links (the site has zero in it at the moment):

    http://songsandjingles.com/wordpress-mu/

Here is a link to my “test” html file, which loads the same css file (where I added yellow as the background color in custom.css):

    http://songsandjingles.com/wordpress-mu/testme.html

Just to show that the css file is accessible:

    http://songsandjingles.com/wordpress-mu/wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/style.css

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

P.S. The most obvious difference between my tiny HTML file and the generated one is that I have no DOCTYPE or “profile=” in mine…

I tried putting skeleton in plugins/buddypress and just in plugins, and in neither case does ‘example’ show up in the navigation bar.

    Any ideas?

I also can’t access it by going to the url: profile/admin/example.

The blog tables are WPMU so it’s installing WPMU from scratch then trying to copy over DB tables that I’m talking about, not BuddyPress.

You probably did not get any response concerning this issue since it is a WPMU plugin-specific problem and not BuddyPress.

If you have specific questions about a given WPMU plugin, the best place to ask them is usually on the WPMU forum. In fact, the creator of the WP Super Cache plugin, Donncha, will be more likley to see your question there than here!

depends if you want to hack the bp-core/bp-core-adminbar.php

you can hide the logo from there, and just hand code a \\\”home\\\” link

you would also want to give it the same class=\\\”\\\” as the other non-dropdown links

    like this:

    <li class="no-arrow">< a href="/groups">Search Groups</ a>

    Hi,

I’m trying to optimize my buddypress site. Does it make sense to install WP-Super-Cache for BP?

I believe that Super Cache caches dynamic pages (php pages) into static pages (html).

Would features like the admin bar, user bar, etc… work if I enable Super Cache?

    Thanks!

Is there a Shortcut available to reference to the Template/Theme directory?

I tried something like this, but unfortunately there is no BP_TEMPLATE_URL available:

    ‘echo ‘root_domain . ‘”><img id=”admin-bar-logo” src=”‘ . apply_filters( ‘bp_admin_bar_logo_src’, BP_TEMPLATE_URL . ‘/images/admin_bar_logo.gif’ ) . ‘” alt=”‘ . apply_filters( ‘bp_admin_bar_logo_alt_text’, __( ‘BuddyPress’, ‘buddypress’ ) ) . ‘” />‘;

    ?>’

Does anyone knows the correct Tag for this? I also want to move the admin_bar_logo.gif into my theme directory.

See Andy\’s series of how to articles on templates and the loop for each content type. Also please take note that these templates can be used in *any* wp theme, including the bp home theme. Their use is demonstrated in the Member Theme but they can be used anywhere in any theme.

    http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/

The fun can really begin now.

    • Group themes for wp blogs.
    • Easy to build widgets for just about any content related to BP. The Member, Group, Activity and Recent Blog Posts widgets are just loops with a fancy widget wrapper and back end output control.

You get the idea. Take a look at the docs and the code for each content type’s template and the lovely template tags. These things are generally located in /buddypress/bp-[content type]/bp-[content type]-templatetags.php

    Topic: Feature ideers

in group forum Requests & Feedback
    Ezd

    Hi,

I was just thinking about some extra features which would be nice. Feel free to add more ideers and add comments.

    Groups:

What about the option to catagorize groups meaning it will be more controlled what groups the users will create as it has to fit into a specific catagory which the administrator could specify. The users would then have to chose which catagory the group should be apart of when they create it. The admin would be able to specify weather the groups has to be a part of a catagory or not. (Less/more controlled)

    Bookmarks:

Being able to bookmark certain things on the community which I find interesting. This could be a member, a group, a user blog ect. When I bookmark a member it will sorted on a list where I have all my bookmarks.

    Broadcast:

A small sms-like message which all members of the community is able to see. Maybe even an option to specify that the message should only be visible to males, females or other groups. Messages should rotate automatically as new messages are added.

    Status:

A user being able to set a status message which can be fed into different area’s of buddypress. Like when you set a status on messenger: Away, Be right back, Occupied ect. Or maybe the “Status update” feature which is coming soon to bp will do the trick ;).

    dear jeff, it doesn’t work.

    a site-wide.css helps put more pages within 800px —

the main page, as well as ‘home’ and ‘blog’ in the second row manu, for instance,

but everything under My Account, My Blog and Notifications (Top Menu)

still displays a 70mm screen to put it in cinematic language :)

    Isuru-

Welcome to BuddyPress! I’m sorry it has taken this long to answer your question.

First let me answer this question:

do i need to edit the bp-core component and bp-xprofile too?

You should not edit any of the core BuddyPress components as your changes will be lost the next time you update BP. Instead, you can either take advantage of the bp-custom.php file (detailed here), or create your own custom component.

can someone expalin me the use of bp-xprofile component.

Here’s some information on BuddyPress’ profile features that may help answer this question.

also, i want to create my own component

There is a specially-created tool for this called the BuddyPress Skeleton Component for plugin developers. Using this series of files, you can create your own custom BP component. There is a download link on that page.

Wow, I too haven’t used IRC in a decade.

I would rather hang out here and talk BP. Seems less painful.
