    Josswin: you need to upgrade the themes, or read the second post on this thread – the bit about _wpnonce.

    Hi Fishbowl81,

    I want to make the bbpress forum to load in my buddypress site from a tab ‘forum’ which is like other tabs like home, blog, members. As you have on your site gorgeousgamers.com.

    So that it incorporates the sites design theme and can still navigate through other tabs.

    What is the best way around this?

    Many thanks,

    “Whenever I click on a link to accept a friendship request…” should read:

    “Whenever I click on a link IN AN EMAIL to accept a friendship request…”

    I’m running the latest version of SVN trunk, using the default home and members themes. Whenever I click on a link to accept a friendship request, I get the “Are you sure you want to do this?” message. Any suggestions? Thank you.

    I might add this is also happening on my test installation, too, running the same setup, only in a sub dir.

    Now that we’ve got bbPress and BuddyPress playing nice, how about a way to get custom profile fields and display them easily within the forums? Burt, I see somewhat how you did it with avatars and the name, but I’m not sure how you feed the bbGroups information and how I could tap into it for custom fields.

    ./wordpress-mu-root-dirctory/whatever-you-want

    Mine is at delsolownersclub.com/discussions/

    You just need to make sure you reference that directory everyplace you need to within BuddyPress and bbPress to make sure they see each other.

    #38325

    SWEEET SUCCESSSSS!

    Okay… For those of that might be using “deep integration” namely using your BuddyPress/MU functions in bbPress, at the time of this writing at the top of your bb-config.php file, put…

    if ( !defined( 'ABSPATH' ) & !defined('XMLRPC_REQUEST')) {
    include_once( 'absolute/path/to/your/wordpressmu-directory/wp-blog-header.php' );
    }

    This way, it only tries to include the MU/BP functions if they haven’t already been defined and if it’s NOT a xmlrpc request!

    DUH! Yay! Burt, haha you rule…

    Found the problem with the 404 page showing up on a redirect with buddypress. It’s not buddypress.

    in wp-includes/pluggable.php in the main wp core the function wp_redirect –

    if ( $is_IIS ) {

    header(“Refresh: 0;url=$location”);

    } else {

    if ( php_sapi_name() != ‘cgi-fcgi’ )

    status_header($status); // This causes problems on IIS and some FastCGI setups

    header(“Location: $location”);

    }

    the $is_IIS is doing a REFRESH: 0; url=location when on windows server 2008 header(“Location: $location”); works fine with the latest fast-cgi module release

    SOO basically in wp-includes vars.php making this change:

    /**

    * Whether the server software is IIS or something else

    * @global bool $is_IIS

    */

    if (strpos($_SERVER, ‘Microsoft-IIS’)) {

    if (strpos($_SERVER, ‘Microsoft-IIS/7.0’)) {

    $is_IIS = false;

    } else {

    $is_IIS = true; // (strpos($_SERVER, ‘Microsoft-IIS’) !== false) ? true : false;

    }

    } else {

    $is_IIS = false;

    }

    fixed it, by declaring that a microsoft-iis/7.0 server is *not* iis

    John, the user you use for group forums just has to have an ‘Administrator’ role or better. Keymaster should work. You should be aware that the password for that user is stored on the wpmu side in plain text in the blog 1 meta data table. Gotta have access to phpmyadmin to get it but..

    Your permalinks on the bbpress side don’t have anything to do with it at all. XMLRPC is used and the only query for any type of asset by URL is to the xmlrpc.php file. Permalinks don’t come into play at all. As long as the wpmu side can find your site’s root url and the xmlrpc.php file that is supposed to live there all is well.

    Don’t know about the deep integration question.

    I followed all the steps and it still wasn’t working. I was doing everything right. I did everything right about 10 times. Still wasn’t working. This thread is me finding out why: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=426

    This is what the trac sequence shows and the comments between the dashes are what really happened.

    http://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/504

    Initial problem report in trac by me based on report in forums by oldskoo1

    Ticket #504 (assigned defect)

    css is broken in group forums using IE7

    Reported by: burtadsit Owned by: burtadsit

    Description

    css is completely broken by something when viewing bp group forums page in RC-1. Forums user brought it up. testbp.org is broke. My dev server and linux server too. Only visiting the forums page in IE7. Firefox and Safari are OK.

    Nothing else seems affected. Just any group’s forum pages.

    (15 minutes later)

    This happens only on the forums index page. Drill down into a topic and all is fine. What’s the diff? Looking.

    (1 hr later)

    Distracted by the frustration of not being able to find the problem I contribute a minor fix for something completely irrelevent to the problem at hand. Maybe if I fix everything else I won’t have to fix this.

    While I was in there looking around I noticed this in /buddypress-member/groups/forum/topic.php line 68

    <?php do_action( ‘groups_forum_new_topic_after’ ) ?>

    Should be:

    <?php do_action( ‘groups_forum_new_reply_after’ ) ?>

    (2 hrs later) Light begins to dawn. It’s not css at all. What’s wrong with that? FF likes it just fine. I hate IE. Just google for some IE weirdness concerning <span> tags and I’m done.

    It’s this:

    <p><span class=”activity”><?php echo sprintf( ( ‘updated %s ago’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_the_topic_time_since_last_post( false ) ) ?><span></p>

    It blows the rest of the page in IE. Testing a fix.

    (3 hrs later)

    Same <p><span> sequence in the group home for active forum topics doesn’t get trashed. Why?

    (6 hrs later)

    Not done at all. Now very confused. Look deeper. 6 code editor windows open now. Source code strewn all over the floor. Ignoring the whole thing for a while hoping someone would see the forum posts, the trac ticket and maybe this will just disappear.

    Well the fix is: “Remove the <p><span> activity line”. Works for me. It’s late and I have to get up early. I’ll revisit the IE nightmare tomorrow.

    Or Andy could take pity on me and wave his magic IE knowledge wand and make it all go away by morning. One can always hope.

    (Next morning)

    I hate IE. Arrogant Microsofties. Can’t adhere to standards. Gotta be *special* don’t they? This still hasn’t gotten automagically fixed and my damn name is stuck on it. Try the ignore it and it will go away thing again.

    I assigned this to me because I started working on it. However, anybody who comes up with the solution is more than welcome to take the credit. I gotta run til later this afternoon.

    (That evening of the 2nd day)

    Run the html validation utility on this damn thing again for the third time. IE keeps saying the same dumb stuff. It can’t even handle a <p><span> sequence.

    (30 seconds after looking at the validation output and then the source again)

    Fixed. <span> needed to be closed. Three hours of ignoring the html validation error messages that the span tag wasn’t closed finally led me to the inescapable and astounding conclusion that the span tag wasn’t closed.

    * attachment closespan.patch added

    (sigh) A total of 3-4 hrs of stupidity followed by 30 seconds of uncommon clarity. This is why Jr. Programmers aren’t paid much. :)

    You’re quite welcome. Oh, and welcome to BuddyPress!

    thanks appreciate it very much, the users are loving the buddypress =) i’m very happy that i’m using it

    the members, directory and blog -> widget area (sidebar) are all the same where it needs the float cleared at the end of the loop if you could

    sorry I forgot this one:

    define( ‘NOBLOGREDIRECT’, ‘http://webcomicplanet.com/&#8217; );

    I need to use ^^ that in the wp-config.php so that it redirects however if I do that, the 404 error doesnt refresh to the appropriate page when doing a buddypress action so i’m guessing that’s related

    this is windows server 2008 so i’m sure there are some problems here and there

    Stand corrected…it is a bug, but not a buddypress bug ;)

    #38289

    Activate the theme per normal for the main website, or main blog of your website. Then, in Site Admin under themes, disable it. At that point it will stay enabled for your 1 blog, and no one else can choose it.

    If you edit a blog specifically from the Blog menu in Site Admin, you can still optionally enable the BuddyPress Home theme if you’d like.

    His previous post on same problem https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1256

    I can point to other threads about this same issue on the mu forums by Bill. Wouldn’t do much good though it’s the same problem and there was no resolution over there either.

    I don’t know how the problem was resolved in the thread above. I was just told by Bill that it was fixed in a PM. I got the impression that Bill had found the problem and it was a *smack forehead* duh! kinda thing. I didn’t pursue it any further. Closed the topic so people wouldn’t think it was an outstanding issue.

    Nobody else is having this particular issue and yes it’s been going on for some time now.

    I made a snarky post because it was the only thing that generated any sort of assistance. I expect to have problems with RC-1 versions. I also expect the support forum to work. This is the first comment I’ve been able to successfully post in days. I spend months telling my members bloggers that BuddyPress was going to do wonders for their blog.

    As I recall, the post that most recently preceded the break was one that included an image, followed by one line of text.

    I’m not trying to be snarky here, but I would expect a plugin to not break when this happens. I have bloggers who post almost nothing but pictures and YouTube videos.

    It’s not a theme issue, since this has happened using at least three different themes on my front page and on a member blog.

    With all due respect, your attitude makes me want to help you less, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

    First of all, this is pre-release software, if you were not prepared or did not expect potential headaches, then you should not have installed BuddyPress.

    The community around this project is coming on leaps and bounds, usually all threads will eventually get an answer which is almost unheard of for something so new. There have been caching issues with the forums, nothing to do with bbPress, and it has been temperamental with all forums on Automattic servers. This should be cleared up now.

    Your problem sounds like perhaps something in a post is breaking the blogs widget, which would explain why it sometimes works, and sometimes does not.

    If you can somehow monitor which post was the newest when the widget stopped working, that would help a great deal to address what it is in the post that is breaking the widget.

    If anyone else has experienced this issue – please post a reply here.

    I posted this message about week ago, and the thread was closed without asking me:

    I have been consistently having issues with the Recent Blogs Widget. It will work fine for days, then the list of Recently Updated blogs go missing from my blogs and when I check out the widget page for these blogs, this is what I see:

    `%BEG_OF_TITLE%Recent Blog Posts%END_OF_TITLE% ‘

    I delete the file bp-blogs.php file from the mu-plugins folder and the error message vanishes. Sometimes an hour later, sometimes a day later, I can upload bp-blogs.php and all is well again.

    And when it errors out on one blog, it errors on on ALL blogs using it.

    I am running it on primepress theme, WPMu 2.7 and BuddyPress RC-1.

    I’ve been having this problem for weeks, previous attempts to get some help for this proved fruitless.

    The problem vanished right after I posted this.

    So the entry was closed.

    This is a intermittent and recurring problem. It comes and goes. I have no explanation why. When it happens, ever single blog using the plug in shows the error message mentioned above.

    I’m going to solve the problem mentioned above by simply giving up on Buddy Press. It showed potential. But the it was impossible to work with because:

    1. Requests for help are often ignored.

    2. It is impossible to ask for help because the the requests CANNOT BE POSTED ON THE MALFUNCTIONING MESSAGE BOARD.

    I mean, seriously? Automattic OWNS bbPress. How does it work out that they fix their own product? I understand what Beta version means, but I cannot understand why Automattic cannot fix a malfunctioning bbPress forum that they own.

    I’ll come back when there’s a final version.

    If this message will not post here, I’ll post in on mu.wordpress.org.

    And I full expect the routine lecture about how this is open source, run by volunteers, etc.

    Ok so…I have successfully installed bbpress, WPMU and buddypress via the instructions here…Still getting this when trying to create forum: “Attention Site Admin: Group forums require correct setup and configuration of a bbPress installation.”

    I have ran through the steps 10 times and have MU 2.7, bbpress 1.0-alpha-6 & Buddypress beta 2.

    I also should know that in dev, I followed all the same steps and had success. Would there be any reason why cookies work, duplicate log-ins work and yet no forum sync up?
