Do you already have all the widgets added to the columns that you want? The theme won’t add recent blogs, newest online, ect. Those are all widgets that need to be added. I believe it is currently suggested that you use all of them to maximize compatibility.

Hi apeatling !

I installed buddypress on a test server 2 days ago. How to upgrade ? I just have to upload the code plugin ?

And another question. I just give it a try on my install, and after creating the admin, i wanted to test with a normal account. The registration was ok, the only problem was that i had to create the homebase for this user to. The problem you mentioned on your post is this one ?

If not, is there a way to automaticaly make it ?

I have the same problem that another user had, but i am not able to fix it.

I installed BP correctly and everything seems to work (great system!!!!!!!).

But when a user registers on my installation and creates an

account, the system doesn’t automatically create his home base with all the social

network features of buddypress working properly.

Instead the system creates a new blog for the new user. The user so have to log in and click “Create new home base”, and choose a different user name to use the social network features.

I tryed at first with the option “Enabled. Blogs and user accounts can be created.”, and then also with the option “Only user account can be created.” turned on.

But in both cases after new registrations only a blog in created (in the latter case moreover shouldn’t it be impossible for a user to create a blog?).

I also tried to make new registration being careful not to be logged as admin at the same time (that was the thing that solved the problem for the other user i mentioned before).

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

I’ve now changed the URL structure of BuddyPress so it is a little more intuitive.

All member pages are now at:

http://domain.com/members/%5Busername%5D

All blogs continue to function on either a subdomain or subdirectory depending on your settings.

This also means that pseudo-blogs/home bases are no longer needed for users. Because this is now the case, the original “give me a blog/just a username” option is now honored on the sign up page. Users can either just sign up for an account, or an account and their first blog.

The changes should not break existing installations, however you may get some redundant tables and users will need to re-upload their avatar.

These changes are now reflected on http://testbp.org

I am getting the profile page instead of the Overall home page where we see on http://testbp.org/

Does anyone know how to I get the home page done correctly?

Check the head of the outputed page and see if your style sheet is before the buddypress one. If it is, the buddypress one will override yours. If yours comes after it will override the buddypress one.

Thanks for the response. I do see that there is a ‘home’ theme and I have now changed to that theme but, beyond the buddypress look in the header, it looks nothing like the testbp home page – i.e. no recent blogs, who’s online, newest members, groups – widgets(hopefully that is the correct term). Sorry if I sound so ignorant on this – I assume I’m just missing something pretty obvious so any – patient – help would be appreciated.

I am not 100% sure that the download offers the home theme – yet.

Go to the Site Admin menu, pick Themes and make sure the BP theme is the only one enabled. Then users can’t change themes.

Any plugin you put in the mu-plugins folder does NOT show up on the Plugins menu. That is for plugins that are in the plugins folder. So no, you won’t see any BP related plugins there to to turn them off and on, because in the mu-plugins folder, plugins are always ON.

I’ve seen similar posts to this but not quite exactly the same question but my apologies if this is a redundant question.

I’ve got BuddyPress installed fine(I believe) and I’ve created a homebase and I’m a bit confused how/where I manage design/plugins etc. Specifically, I want the home page of my site to look exactly – at least layout-wise – as it does on the http://testbp.org/ site. I also want the individual user’s pages to look the same and not give them ability to have blog-specific themes. My problem is that I don’t know where I go to change the theme – i.e. I go to the admin of the homebase site and I don’t have a ‘Design’ option. I do have it in the admin of the WPMU portion of the site but the only buddypress related theme I see there is the theme that you see when you are in a user account – I don’t see one for the overall home page of the BuddyPress site(and for that matter, I’m a bit confused as to what the overall home page of the site should be – should it be the home page of the WPMU portion or the BP ‘homebase’). I do notice that when I go to ‘plugins’ on either side, I’m not seeing the buddypress plugins that I uploaded showing as available so this may be part of my overall confusion. Sorry for the rambling – I’m liking the apparent promise of BP/WPMU(I’m evaluating Elgg also) – so I really want to see it in ‘action’. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I get how the buddpress homepage is coming along with groups, recent posts, etc… It’s very nice! Do you know when approximatley you’ll have a search? In addition, do you happen to know what the intentions are for virally spreading a buddypress websites existence?

Take yammer.com for instance; supposedly they had something like 60,000 sign-ups in a couple of weeks??? I have a site thats up and some people join every once in a while, however it seems like something is missing. Some sort of linkage, maybe a giant flaw in my business model?

Do you think a twitter type plugin will help? Or do you have something in mind that you are working on, or some type of advise? Much appreciated for your time…

Plus, I would like to take the time to formally thank you, all contributors and automattic for creating what I believe will help my website tremendously. Thanks again for your time.

I have my site set to a regular home page, however I set my profile page under http://mysite.com/members

I do not want to use my homepage as the (buddypress homepage) member page, I want to use the member page, however, it is set as a buddypress profile page. I want that page to be the buddypress home page. However, there is not an option to change it under the profile admin somehow the design function is disabled. What are my solutions??? Thanks

Thats fantastic news! I’ve really “REALLY” been wanting to use BuddyPress on the MU project I’m building but really “REALLY” been put off by the multiple sub-domain issue. I’ll be looking forward to seeing this in action!

So on the plane to London I worked out how to fix the member profile URLs and not require a pseudo-blog for each user.

So user profiles can be found at:

http://domain.com/members/andy

and then for each blog, a redirect can be set up from (as an example):

http://domain.com/members/andy/blogs/myblog TO http://myblog.domain.com

Interestingly enough, I think the way I have done it would make it quite possible for BuddyPress to work on regular WordPress. I’m not sure yet, I need to test this all out a bit more.

I’ll update with more info this week.

I’ve integrated bbPress with WPMU to share user logins (couldn’t get cookies to work unfortunately) and was preparing to launch them both this week. Should I hold off on launching bbPress until you’ve integrated it more fully, or would I be okay using the system as I have it now and simply adding the BuddyPress forum functionality down the road.
