Kindly let me know how to disable the email verification? I found this post but it doesn’t state what code needs to be changed. Plus the post is over a year old.
Ok managed to do it, it’s a dirty way but it works…
1) Compile all of the above scripts into a single file “mynewjsfile.js” then minify it to keep it even more compact if you want (forget the buddypress.js thing as what I’ve done stops the script from looking for it completely).
2) Upload mynewjsfile.js wherever you want to put it (for the sake of this I’ve put it into my theme root /js/mynewjsfile.js
3) Make a copy of buddypress-functions.php (inside bp-legacy/)
4) In your new buddypress-functions.php around line 89 comment out the following :
add_action( 'bp_enqueue_scripts', array( $this, 'enqueue_scripts' ) );
Like this :
/* add_action( 'bp_enqueue_scripts', array( $this, 'enqueue_scripts' ) ); */
5) Create a new folder called “buddypress” in your theme’s root and upload buddypress-functions.php into it. Now buddypress will use this file instead of the original.
6) In your wordpress functions.php add the following :

wp_enqueue_script( 'mynewjsfile', get_template_directory_uri() . '/js/mynewjsfile.js', 'jquery', false );

add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'mynewjsfile' );
The ‘jquery’ is there because our new script requires it to function properly. This ensures that Jquery loads before it. False is telling wordpress to load it in the header.
7) Enjoy your new single minified JS file 😉
If anyone knows of a BuddyPress plugin that requires setting role capabilities
Buddypress itself does not require setting role capabilities – so a Buddypress plugin usually should not need this. Most of the commonly used buddypress plugins like photo/album (rtmedia), location plugins, imath’s Rendzevous ( sort of an Event plugin with a difference) do NOT require setting role capabilities and works well in the above scenario.

I actually tried this extensively even before I saw this post – its purpose is something different. It will not add users to the main site.

Event Manager does this. It requires setting role capabilities and yet no one has to manually set the members belonging to the main site. It has a very wide range of configuration options that makes it rather “heavy” – still I could have used it but it has no Attendee options. It lacks “Attending : Yes | NO | Maybe ” and an Attendee list that others can see. Apart from this, from frontend it offers same functions and users can add Events from the profile too with Location Map etc.
A huge amount of thanks and gratitude to @shanebp, who is actually doing tremendous amount of help and work for the buddypress events plugin. Kudos!

Have you had any luck fixing it? Im not sure what would cause that to happen. Is it that your buddypress activities won’t post or that your blog posts disappeared?
The only thing I can think to do would be to go into a fresh copy of WP and copy the complete bp-acitivity-loader.php page and paste it on the file on your site. See if that brings back up your posts. If it does, then try to change the name again and see if it works.

Adding members automatically to sites in a multisite installation can be quite complicated.
This is the solution recommended by many people.

If a plugin requires you to add / remove role capabilites specific to that plugin, then each member must at least belong to the main site.
Otherwise current_user_can() will return false because the member does not belong to the main site.
If a member belongs to the main site, but none of the sub-sites, then the only issue is that while viewing a subsite custom tab(s) may not appear in the BP dropdown in the upper right corner. But the tab(s) will appear on the actual profile page.

WP MS + BP should be installed at the root: example.com/
Default user role on main site is: subscriber (see wp settings for that)
BP settings allows you to let users create a blog.
A new user create a blog which goes as subfolder: example.com/the_new_blog/
User from the main (subscriber) created the new_blog and is now blog admin of his blog and subscriber on the main blog.
He can only access his own blog dashboard but cannot go to the main site dashboard.
They are several WP plugins which let you customize the toolbar and many WP snippets you can use to do it by yourself. For example removing some of WP items, or adding some conditionnals to shows them to certain roles only.
BuddyPress uses templates and depending what a member does and where, such a template is fired.
Most of these BP templates are using a loop which you can customize. See Codex for details on each and what you can do with extra template params.

Seems that you have actually two theme declared on your site.
And apparently one of js function (jmigrate) is deprecated.
Note also that BuddyPress doesn’t work when WP is in its own directory. Both should be in the same directory.
I don’t understand what you mean because buddypress has private messages built in as standard.
What I mean is this: Right now, it seems users can only send “standard” messages through the wordpress/buddypress messages system, or chat through for example arrow chat or Cometchat.
To be able to view all messages (chat messages and “standard” messages between users) in the same place (like in FB or any other modern platform) would be a good improvement. Or perhaps simply throw out the regular messaging system and be able to add the chat to the profile?

Working on a site that has heavy impressions/users. It uses Buddypress.
So there’s the regular members (set to Subscribers user role for all new registrations). We also have a team of writers (set to Authors or Admins user role).
Can we style the Admins/Authors differently than subscribers? So a different template for Authors than Subscriber.

This is needed because some Buddypress plugins will not work unless a member is at least Subscriber of the main site also. While Buddypress itself and most Buddypress plugin just works fine a few buddypress plugin will not work. The main problem of making them subscriber of the main site is they also see the main site dashboard name and link in the top-bar which is what is not wanted. So if this display can be turned off ( any trick ??) it will be of great help.
Thank you, I think that answers one of my questions: notification does not go far beyond indicating that there has been activity. What I’m hoping to do is breathe more life into a community by improving communication, and the more action is required from users the less likely that is to happen. At present we correspond by exchanging emails to group addresses manually compiled in Notepad, with no two people having the same list! A Yahoo group would work much better. At present it looks to me as if people would find the bbpress / buddypress solutions more laborious.
Two things about Yahoo groups: 1. The incoming email gives you all the content, without your having to do a second click and go and find it, and 2. you get emails on all contributions to the group you’ve subscribed to, not just when someone specifically targets you. Those limitations in buddypress look to me like killers, but maybe I haven’t understood everything yet.
I hope not, because full and easy integration of communication into a website would make it such a powerful tool.

Each topic can be followed by the author and all who answer on a per topic base. Email you’ll receive in this case will show the topic url and a brief excerpt.
A little different is BP Live Notification plugin, which add a Facebook Like real-time notification for user.
Some other way to use and show notification can be done by coding a little, which is explaine here.
As a total novice I’ve put together a site for my local community, http://www.listraban.net. I want to add a means of communication and debate using bodypress and bbpress. The major issue is how it integrates with users’ email. My ideal would be the system that Yahoo groups use, wherein the user can, without help from a moderator, choose to get by email either (a) every new post, (b) a daily digest of new posts or (c) nothing at all. I’ve tried reading what there is about notification plug-ins, but understand hardly a word. For a start I don’t know whether “notification” means an email containing the text of a post, or an email simply announcing that there is a new post.
I believe the WordPress theme is 2012, FWIW. BuddyPress version can be whatever it is if we ever get started.
