Participantif you use a network install, no matter as subdomain or sub directory, it’s preferably to install BP on the main blog.
On a standard MS, this means that WP is at the server root (ie. /xxx/xxx/htdocs/www/wp-content/)and BP installed as plugin in /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/ and network activated.
Don’t install BP on each blog nore on the main blog and a network blog…. Installing BP on one of the sub blog, not the main blog, will be complex and very complicated in some case to manage with permalinks and redirections, except if you know what you’re doing, and specially if you use sub domain blogs.

Participant@mercime thanks, makes everything a lot more simple by disabling the discussion component on buddypress. I also had a bug when activating ONLY the group forums with buddypress, for some reason it broke the group avatar uploader however this was fixed when I installed the site wide forums as well.

Participantone issue resolved, one still open.
Now seems to be working on the parent site. Had to add Search page and another page..seems to have cleared the issue.
Still no evidence of a buddypress plug in on the subsite

ParticipantTried to install BB 1.7 rev. 6885 trunk
This is a multisite installtion where wordpress is installed in a subdirectory named editions.Was able to network install, network activate and configure. Once completed, I went to the admin panel and tried to list all of my pages. The following warnings appeared at the top of the panel. The same error occurs when I try to list all posts. This occurs in the parent site.
I have plugin activation allowed by sites but there is no evidence of buddy press in the subsite plugin list. The warnings are:

ParticipantI could not get this text to post. Trying it here:
Hello All,
I have a very tough and challenging problem with the register page on the Primary site of my multisite BP install. Register works properly on subsites but not on the primary site. We are running WP 3.3.2 and BP 1.5.6 in Multisite.
It was working fine on the Primary site prior to the installation of Peter’s Login Redirect on Saturday March 30th. The plugin was removed but the problem remains.
Trying to find a BP expert that can help!
Here is the gist of it:
http://community.abeo.us/register page does NOT work.
Subsites, such as, http:test2.abeo.us DO work. The code is the same for both sites, register.php, in the BuddyPress Social Theme.There are two symptoms;
1) If users fill out form correctly, an account is created on the server but the user cannot login with their username and password and they are not logged in automatically as they should be with two plugins that accomplish this BP Disable Activation and BP Auto Login Using Activation Code. Again, this was working fine prior to the installation of Peter’s Login Redirect.
2) If users do not fill out the form correctly no warning messages are displayed for required fields.Hopefully someone in the community can help me resolve this.

April 2, 2013 at 2:44 pm #159685In reply to: buddypress header width
giannisff
ParticipantYou must do some changes to your style.css file, also to your header.php file.
Change to your style.css (keep a backup anyway) I note only the changes…body {
max-width:100%;
width:100%;
}
div# container {
width:1150px;
margin:0 auto;
}
/*————————————————————–
ADD THIS
————————————————————–*/
#header-in {
width:1150px;
margin:0 auto;
}Now open your header.php file.
after the head>
make this
<div id="header-in" onclick="location.href='http://www.yourdomain.com/';" style="cursor: pointer;">false, 'menu_id' => 'nav', 'theme_location' => 'primary', 'fallback_cb' => 'bp_dtheme_main_nav' ) ); ?>
To change the navigation align go to style.css and change this
#navigation {
position: relative;
text-align: left;
}This way it works for me. I am not sure that is the best way. Just try it.

ParticipantAlso important to bear in mind that as of 1.7 the old BP bbPress integration to groups of a basic striped down forum offering is removed and ALL forum capabilities are handled by bbPress standalone plugin which offers a far better forum experience from the point of view of BP groups, so please take a moment to read through the codex on this subject to familiarise yourself with how forums work with BP.

ParticipantAfter digging even deeper… the theme developer had hidden that function on the style sheet. Seems that group avatars and member avatars share the same avatar size.
Now the avatar is all skewed because of the group avatar sizing. They share the same function. 🙁
Appreciate your help!

April 2, 2013 at 12:24 pm #159670In reply to: Show private groups in forum directory.
danbpfr
Participantthe silly answer would be: make them public !
Private is private. Even group discussions.
A tech answer probably sit here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2576
And at least, the codex: https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/group-settings-and-roles/April 2, 2013 at 12:14 pm #159669In reply to: Buddypress theme integration and/or suggestion
danbpfr
Participantthe answer is in your question i guess.
I currently have the Avada Theme for the demo site. But, they would like Buddypress
If they want BP, install BP 1.7 and done.
BP 1.7 will integrate any WP theme (so far as they are correctly coded accordingly to WP rules of course)
You already experimented with ThemeForest. (no comment) Try another theme publisher.
If you need several button drived admin possibilities, aka automated templating, you have to search yourself. Because there are thousands of BP themes. Ands by this, thousands of opinions.
As site creator you should around this easely.
