Hi @theofficialseoguru,

titling a support topic with Help please – How to…. is gentle, but ouf of need on a help forum. And for sure not a waranty to get help.

As you have an understanding problem of php, and a supposed theme issue, it would be very helpfull to give its name and some details where to show the avatar.

Apparently your theme use a custom function à la WordPress to get avatars. And this should work, in theory.

Have you synced wp users with bp in bp’s settings ?
Have you tested with one of wp’s default twenty theme ?

Depending where to show a user avatar, BuddyPress use different code. You can see this on most of the template files stored in /bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/

On the member header for example; you have bp_displayed_user_avatar( 'type=full' );
There is also a filter: bp_get_member_avatar;
So it really depends where and how you want your avatar… In a loop, outside of a loop, etc

Hi Style960, Yep as far as I can remember it worked! It definitely is NOT a new feature to be implemented. I don’t have much time now but I think the best thing to do is to download an old version of BuddyPress and… test it.

If it works I’ll try to make a diff and see what changed. Let’s keep in touch 🙂

Hello,

The wordpress version I am using is 4.0.1
The BuddyPress version I am using is 2.1.1

I am trying to display the user avatar that is being displayed by the BuddyPress plugin for EVERYTHING else except for what I need to use it for LOL.

The problem is the theme I’m using does not recognize the the BuddyPress call to the avatar. The code the theme is using is:

<?php echo get_avatar(CustomUser::$data['user']['ID'], 200); ?>

I keep trying to add bp_ in front of get_avatar but then it doesn’t display anything. I have also removed the info between the ()

I do not understand php that well and do not understand calling functions and getting them to display that well, but I have been known to copy and paste my way to glory sometimes.

I have found the “get avatar” functions in some of the function files of BuddyPress and tried to paste them into my functions file but I always get errors.

Please keep in mind I am a total php newb and will need a little guidance on where and how to apply the code. for example I found this one post that might have helped a couple days ago that said something like just paste get_function_shmitty_avatar, then the OP was like GREAT AWESOME OMG this worked so wonderful… and I still have no clue where to paste or how to correctly paste the php code, that was also for integrating the BB forum pics too. So anyways…

@sebacar @mercime Hi Sebastien, from looking at replies to your Trac ticket, I think something is being lost in translation between ourselves and the devs.

To quote the official documentation :

Notifications are a central aspect of the user experience on a BuddyPress site. By default new notifications are displayed in the admin bar profile menu, right next to the navigation menus, some themes even integrate the notification counter in other places (like in the header or sidebar of a page).

Notifications are sent out to your community members as soon as one of the following things happen:

Activity

A member mentions you in an update @username”
A member replies to an update or comment you’ve posted

The activity in bold above definitely stopped triggering notifications on 3 different sites I was testing, where it had previously generated a notification (probably 4 months+ consistently). Quite simply, that notification trigger stopped working. This should not be a new feature, it was already there.

Hi, i’m on wordpress 4.0.1 and buddypress 2.1.1 and i’m having this issue, when i configure the pages “Registration” and “activate” none of them work, they are always empty. Searching in google i found out that i’m not the first one experiencing this issue, but i didn’t find a solution so here i am, any ideas what can i do?

I am very confused with what i need in addition to buddypress.

I have installed wordpress
I have installed buddypress
I purchased a theme called salutations from themeforest

I WANT to implement a paid membership site where members can team up and share ideas, and incorporate mailchimp for email to contact registered members, and then I want to sell my merchandise that would be outside vendor.

So do I need to go get bbpress and membership forum plugins on top of buddypress? What are the limitations of buddypress? I don’t think I need a wordpress shopping cart if I go through 3rd party website.

Hi ,

I am running buddypress on buddyboss theme, the site emails are working fine but not the notifications from buddypress.
whenever a user posts a message, friend request, group membership request anything, no email notifications are sent to users.

i use WP smtp plugin and wp better emails plugins for email setup and other site emails are working fine. I use ZOHO SMTP server for emails.

I’m trying to migrate a Ning site to Buddypress but running into a problem with the import process after a few hundred members (out of 2800) are imported. The screen simply shows a portion of the members JSON file. When I click on Start Over, the process goes through the same number of members before getting stopped at the same point. I’ve looked at the JSON file and don’t see any problems with the formatting of that section.

If interested, would you send me your hourly rate?

Thanks Dan, I will and let you know.

But as far as me or a competitor is logged, we know about its personal details.
Can’t he sign with its personnal BuddyPress details as done for a group or a forum for example, where all of its details appear ??

Just to make sure: I don’t want the plugin to organize the event with schedule or anything else, simply to be able to sign an inscription form with its BP account.
Am I correct?

Can I do that via BuddyPress? BP is not a contest plugin, so you have to find another way to achieve this. Maybe using a plugin or create your own.

So far i know, there is this older plugin who may be do the job. No idea if it works with 2.1.1 and how, but give it a try and let hear from you.

Hi,
I’m using Divi 2.0 from Elegant Theme.
I’m currently designing a YachtClub website organizing contests and sail races.

I’d like to know how, once logged, people could subscribe to an event (contest) only ticking a box like “Yes I will attend to the race” and then get all its registration form fullfilled, ready to be send to the national federation. Information would be taken from their “Extended Profile”.

In their profile are mentionned their ranking, boat type, sail number, email, phones…
And in order to avoid to repeat this fullfilling everytime they want to get inscribed, I seek for a simple “One shot” information file.

Can I do that via BuddyPress?

Your help would be appreciated.

PS : May be adding WooCommerce could do it, but WooCommerce would be a little bit to much for approx. 50 racers, no?

hi my buddypress wont let me post in the Activity feed as known as whats new
the button is there i know coz i look at the code but i dont know how to fix this so if any one can really help it be good as i need it for people to post please tell me how to fix it if you need plugs that i have i can put them here
please there are people on my site that needs it i only had my site few days ago not even that after i insaill it it was ok but the next day it went of i dont know why

Hi,

I’m currently using wordpress 3.9.2, with a theme that isn’t buddypress verified (Vistatheme by themaple).

I have got everything to work except the ‘Load More’ button at the bottom. I’ve since deleted this button as its misleading (because I can’t get it to work with the JS of my theme) and I want to extend the number of post on the stream above the max 20. I have tried using this code in the activity-loop.php:

This works if I select any number lower than 20, but it won’t increase the number of posts..

Where do I go from here guys? Any suggestions?

sorry to answer this, but here are 25 pages of topics from people having “the same problem”.

If you don’t use X theme, if you don’t use woocommerce and if you don’t use BP 2.0.1, you have NOT the same problem as @jlent14 ! 😉

It seems to be, looks like, but most probably isn’t. And generally, jumping in others topic or old topics is not a good idea on this support forum.

To all readers

When encountering a registration problem, first thing to do is to test your install without any plugins and one of WP’s Twenty default theme. Ensure that your site send correctly emails. Before activating any plugin, your base WP install must work.

Once WP is OK – you can install BuddyPress and check your permalinks. Pretty permalinks must be activated to get the plugin working correctly.

This point is important, especially if you have redirection issues after BP is activated.

Second point to check is your theme installation.

Proceeding like this will help you to isolate easely the culprit. If:
– WP install: OK
– BP install: OK
– theme activation: problem

So you know here the problem comes from.

While testing your install, you can activate wp_debug (set to TRUE) in the wp-config file. This can give you a lot of information about conflict and/or errors.

Just keep in mind that these information have 2 levels of importance: notice and warning.
While notice are generally harmless, warnings should be taken seriously in account and solved.

If WP is the problem, see first the wordPress support
If it’s BuddyPress, see the BP support
If it’s the theme, see the theme support
If it’s any other plugin, see first the plugin support.

Hello,

I am using the latest WordPress with the X theme. The only BuddyPress compatible with this theme is 2.0.1, so I am using that. I am redesigning a site and there seems to be an issue with the registration and activation page.

When I fill out the fields and then press “Sign up” it does redirects to the same Registration page and leaves the password fields blank. I do not have many plugins at this time so that is not the issue. I have set BP up and same with the Pages. Any Idea? URL: http://www.passingrass.com/ultimate/register/

Hello,

I want to use this snippet for Buddypress registration TOS:

Apparently, this snippet shows TOS at the top of the page which is not the best option.
When I change before to after, it appears under the left hand side column but doesn’t look right. I want to have the TOS link to appear above or under the sign up button or under the right hand side column of buddypress registration page. How can I control the positioning?

Hello,

what would be my best choice to extend the default editor toolbar with bbPress? I know you can use bbCodes, but most of my users probably will not know how to apply e.g. a youtube bbCode. The “GD bbPress Tools” pro version has implemented an extended bbCode toolbar. This would be one solution. I tried TinyMCE and CKEditor, but with TinyMCE there are some conflicts with BuddyPress/bbPress and CKEditor uses it’s own path for images etc.

I do like the BBCodes solution that bbPress currently offers and I decided to go with what bbPress offers. But is there a solution to add more buttons like image upload, list, youtube etc?
