@kris35 You should still be able to create a group using the member dropdown menu on the right side of the admin toolbar Groups > Create assuming that the super/site admin enabled group creation in Settings > BuddyPress > Settings. Best place to ask is at the theme author’s forums as the theme is supposed to have BuddyPress support.

BuddyPress may do. By default, BuddyPress provides a members directory which displays all active members (users that have activated their account). If you need more control over exactly which users are displayed then you’ll need to use the WP_User_Query class provided by WordPress.

2. Will buddy press allow me to export users in a CSV file?

I’m not sure this is do-able out-of-the-box. However, there may be plugins available in the WordPress Plugin Directory that can help.

@sbaglia i really dont have a clue about this but ive just noticed a recent update on a plugin that adds seperate social networking functions to wordpress that i have been watching for a while, now the idea i had a while ago was wondering if this plugin could infact be ran alongside buddypress just for the comment notifications within wordpress, meaning i was wondering if all other notifications and workings of this other plugin could be disabled and used just for this one specific task, this way users would have a seperate notification system for blog and custom post comments, i really dont know as i have not messed around with them together but i know that this plugin does achieve what we want but seperately to buddypress, maybee you want to have a mess with the idea i had? i just dont have time at the minute and dont know if it will work well with buddypress running too, the plugin is here https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-notifications/

@sbaglia i too would like to achieve this but have been so busy with doing other things that i have not even looked at how or if this could be done yet, so i +1 this request if anyone has any info on how to do this? it would be awesome if users received notification on blog post comments or for me especially custom post type comments. to me this would infact give complete social network functioning throughout my entire site this way and not just on the buddypress pages.

I needed a solution myself a few years back to activate imported users so ran a function up and uploaded to gist:

Just updated it to reflect BP 2.0 changes to last activity to use ‘bp_update_user_last_activity()’ – it takes a slightly different approach in running only as admin and requiring that user runs the script by passing a get variable on the url ?action=force-active just to ensure script wasn’t run by accident or repeatedly also it checks and runs on a user id only if that user has no existing entry as I had existing users, I also didn’t want them all to have same time stamp so added in a delay on each iteration of the loop so each had a unique timestamp and just to allow breathing space between updates if loop particularly long.

Updates to script are untested at this time.

Loving Buddypress 2.1.1. My only big request would be with regard to Private messaging:

1. Allow users to ignore (silently block) users from private messaging them. For example, if you receive a PM from a user you do not wish to converse with (troll, spammer or some other form of harassment) you can simply click “ignore” or “block” to block this user(s). The offending user is not made aware of this and future PM’s send by this person are simply not seen by the recipient while keeping the offender unaware.

Users can edit their block/ignore list to remove/add users from it.

2. Provide site admins the option to prevent users from PM’ing multiple users at the same time.

That’s pretty much it. A simple request that would have a positive impact IMO. Looking forward to the next release. TThanks.

At which point it will add a last_activity timestamp.
The easiest solution is to add those timestamps for everyone via a script.
Put this code in your bp-custom.php file, then open your site in a browser.
Then remove the code – or it will update the timestamp on every page load.

I have been looking for hours to find a solution to this, if you mean so that users in BuddyPress can repost other users activity.

It baffles me that there isn’t a good solution that has been built by someone, i would pay for premium plugin if it worked properly.

you need to read up about scaling wordpress and not just buddypress tbh, i have been doing a good bit of research on the matter recently, there is alot to it! I suggest as henry and shane says, you need to create a good infastructure of servers, i would suggest getting a setup where you can have one server running as a dedicated database server independently whilst having a few other servers for specific tasks within the network such as file servers and firewalls etc, there are solutions out there but they can be costly and you will need to be a dab hand with linux to pull it off as a one man team, maybe the best way to deal with these issues is first get to the point where you will need to worry about doing it, if you had that sort of regular users within your website im sure you could hire a team to do it with the revenue it would generate if setup right.

@mmaccou i have been experimenting with the early release of mediapress created by brajesh at buddydev and it is a very promising plugin and most of brejesh’s plugins are very good however i would say that it is not yet where it needs to be for use on a live site as he is working hard to make it more complete but i have faith that it will be the best media plugin when its finished and not in the beta stages

i myself would try rtmedia for the free version for now if it works for you because i have tried every single media plugin and none are really that great at the minute, activity plus is an awesome plugin but for some reason the guys at wpmu dev do not see the need even though many many many people have already asked about them including a gallery so that the images the user posts in the stream or in a group are linked to a user and they dont just get lost in the stream forever like they do now, why they dont add this feature is beyond me tbh?

i cannot use rtmedia myself even though i would do if i could, because it clashes with a custom plugin i have that i need and both the rtmedia team and my plugin dev cant fix the issue between them lol so its one or the other

i was using buddydevs other media plugin that is paid for bpgallery which i cannot recommend even though it was a brilliant plugin it stops working on the latest buddypress and i think brajesh hasnt updated it due to working on mediapress to replace it, i do have another plugin that i have been helping test out that noone else has got due to it being discontinued but i have been helping a dev test it while he fixes it bits at a time and this even includes tagging, but again its not ready for a live site release, its so frustrating about the lack of fully functional media plugins and i hear ya, i know there is a frk of buddypics by modemlooper that also works quite well but again its very limited in what it can do, hope this helps you a little and saves you the time i have spent looking for solutions that i am not yet 100 percent happy with but have to make do with for now 🙂

@hami007 best thing to do would be scrap the free hosting for a start as when errors like this occur you may find you are limited in what you can do to troubleshoot issues, like hugo said it sounds like you need to check all your plugins 1 by 1 as a starting point then i would at least look into some cheap basic hosting rather than free, there are some great deals on shared hosting around that are really really cheap but to be honest running wordpress and buddypress on shared hosting further down the line will probably end up failing you due to restrictions and overuse of the server etc etc, at least look into getting an half decent vps server to start off with and learn the basics of server maintenance before moving on to the likes of dedicated servers etc though, i jumped straight from shared to dedicated and found myself lost and at mercy to linux as a novice user, so i decided to take 8 months time out and learn everything about linux server hardening and security i could alongside the correct way to set everything up for running multiple wordpress websites etc etc, it all sounds daunting at first but if you stick with it or at least move away from free hosting it will be worth it with time and effort. just a little advice for you before looking for a real hosting solution as i kinda jumped into the deep end, as i have read so many stories of people who went and got a good deal on a dedicated server etc that didnt have a clue how to use it but found themselves in a 12 month contract, luckily i wanted to spend the time learning myself so it paid off for me.

It won’t be easy.

You’ll have to determine who is creating a message and who the recipients are.
And then check for an existing thread id.
If it doesn’t, allow a new thread.
If it does, change it from new to reply.
You’ll need to thoroughly review the code in buddypress/bp-messages to get an idea of how it works and which hooks are available for use.
