ParticipantI am also a newbie and would like to know how to set up a registration page. I see the registration by BuddyPress installed in my .php core files but I don’t see a page template.

ParticipantExcellent. That pointed me in the right direction. I modified it slightly so it compares versions with the “beta” in version number also.
`if((version_compare(BP_VERSION, ‘1.7*’) == -1))`

`if ( version_compare( BP_VERSION, ‘1.7’, ‘<' ) )`

ParticipantHi, I resolve (ubuntu server 12.04, apache2) this problem as follow:
1) Execute the setup wizar of BuddyPress after the plugin activate
Tip from https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installation-wizard/
2) Move the plugins\buddypress\bp-themes to wp-content/themes and set the pretty permalink. I’am using the month + name.
Tip from http://wpmu.org/buddypress-now-supports-wordpress-single-user-no-wpmu-required/
3) Set the Apache2 mod_rewrite with
# sudo a2enmod rewrite
and change the option AllowOverride of None to all in the file /etc/apache2/sites-avaliable/default
…
`
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride all`
…Tip from http://www.lavluda.com/2007/07/15/how-to-enable-mod_rewrite-in-apache22-debian/

ParticipantThanks Hugo! I woke up today realizing that I’m looking for the template hierarchy. Just like BBPress has:
‘plugin-bbpress.php’,
‘bbpress.php’,
‘forums.php’,
‘forum.php’,
‘generic.php’,
‘page.php’
Read that doc here.Could I create a ‘bpress.php’ which will overrule BuddyPress’ usage of page.php as the template for members, groups and activity pages?

shanebp
ModeratorThat’s not a BuddyPress error.
It’s an error from the elvito-bp plugin.You might try asking the plugin author:
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/elvito-bpI suggest you ask them to read this:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/plugin-development/checking-buddypress-is-active/Also – imo – that plugin is lacking basic security.
March 5, 2013 at 12:17 pm #155140ronia
Participant@mercime Thanks! Events Manager is too convoluted and does not have basic features of an Event plugin ( who will attend/ not attend/may attend) – it is also not integrated with activity stream, that is, no comments can be made from activity stream to the event. In comparison – you can see oxwall.org which comes with integrated event (as well as photo)
BP Album is broken with BP 1.7 while BP Media is buggy with 1.7 and lacks tagging or marking directly on photo, a basic feature that is part of all real world social nets as well as scripts like elgg (free) or phpfox(paid).

Participant@r-a-y thank you for the updated link. Unfortunately, it didn’t fix mine. Hopefully @mercime and I can figure out something over in my thread to figure it out: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/upload-failed-error-was-no-editor-could-be-selected
thanks again for hopping on an old thread and updating it for me, I definitely appreciate it.

Participant@mercime, thank you for the advice. And for starters, I appreciate all of the time you’ve taken for this one thus far… I did, in fact, forget to do that, though in doing so I haven’t been able to produce any positive results, except I DID GET TO actually use the cropping tool this time, so I definitely got a feeling of momentum.
Here are the results from that…
With default bp theme activated, an image can be uploaded and taken to the “cropping tool”. The cropping tool seemed to function as per normal, though once I make my cropping selection I get this error…
“There was a problem cropping your avatar, please try uploading it again”
I get this in all browsers, with all plugins deactivated (besides buddypress, of course – even the coming soon plugin).
I’m starting to knock around the word “befuddled” in my head, as I haven’t been able to find anything that seems to work either.

ParticipantThe “live” one was a complete new install.
I’m not too worried, just puzzled mostly. I found this topic on moving WP https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory so figured I’d use that to move the “test” install to a different directory (don’t want the functioning directory to be “wptest2” lol) and run it off the root when I’m ready … most likely tomorrow.
If I hadn’t just spent 3 weeks upgrading a half dozen sites and their software for a MySQL upgrade then another week to upgrade the OS I’d puzzle it out. But I’m a little tired of staring at the ‘puter screen for a few hours after I get home from the office and 8-10 hours of staring two computer monitors.

ParticipantI’ve been reading these forums for weeks trying to find a solution to all the spam registrations I’m getting on my site. Keep in mind that I haven’t opened it to the public yet. It is closed and the registrations are closed, but still they are getting in and creating accounts. I decided to do some troubleshooting to see where they are getting in and this is what I found out so far:
1. When I close registration still they get in and create member accounts and Groups in which they inject their spam. 2. I started to turn off some of the buddypress features one at a time, such as the forums and the groups, and the registrations stopped. It’s been several days without spam registrations. I turned on open registrations and still there’s no registration. I turned on Forums and now they are coming back.
Conclusion: they must be getting through the forum, since I understand, uses a version of BBPress. Now I have to get a solution to protect the forums and groups if I want these features on our sites.
any solutions out there?March 5, 2013 at 1:58 am #155105In reply to: Edit Profile Link Leads to Blank Page
@mercime
ParticipantThis worries me, as I cannot do this every time there is an issue like this on my site. I still do not know what was wrong.
I empathize. Of course nobody’s expected to do that at all. Did you read the requirements before installing BuddyPress at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/before-installing/ ? Have you been installing WordPress via webhosts’ scripts?
March 5, 2013 at 1:52 am #155104@mercime
Participant@ronia Check out the Events Manager plugin by @netweblogic https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/events-manager/ Has BuddyPress support!
As for Media plugins compatible with BP
1. free – BuddyPress Album – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/
2. free – BuddyPress Media – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-media/
3. premium – BP Gallery – http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/March 5, 2013 at 1:38 am #155101@mercime
ParticipantI’ve installed Worpress multisite with buddypress. I have a site running on a subdomain, but when users register, they are directed register only on the main domain.
@slinkyfran You have to configure where you wanted BuddyPress to be installed, in your case the subdomain aka secondary blog. https://codex.buddypress.org/user/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/March 5, 2013 at 1:35 am #155100In reply to: BuddyPress Menu Add
@mercime
Participant@webifiedgeek That would require some custom development. To start you off, see how @sbrajesh has implemented setting up menu and sub-menu in the user(s) profile page with page only seen by the logged in user and take it from there to develop your own custom plugin http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-custom-background-for-user-profile/

Participant>>users cannot communicate with, see each other, or even know other users exist). Only the admin will have the privilege of viewing profiles or commenting on users’ blog posts.
@bg01 As I see it, you don’t even need BuddyPress especially with the configuration you posted above.
– Just create a network (go multisite)
– allow students to create own blogs or create the blogs yourself and add student/user per blog
– make all sites private (Super Admin can see anything and everything)
– post comment on each student’s blog post.
If you have any issues with your multisite installation, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisiteAlternatively, you can have one single WP site. Make it private, no feeds. Set access of all posts in front end and back end to Site Admin and respective post Author in custom WP theme. Only Site Admin can post comment in all posts.
If you have any issues, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshootingMarch 5, 2013 at 1:11 am #155097In reply to: [Resolved] Buddypress 1.6.4 not auto creating pages
@mercime
ParticipantIt’s been one of those weeks, let me tell you.
@p2ab No problem. Just glad you were able to resolve the issue 🙂
Marking this as resolved.March 5, 2013 at 12:08 am #155094@mercime
Participant@bluestrat55555 if your only requirement is that users can contribute to “one masssive pool of content” then you don’t even need BuddyPress. Just enable registration for a single WP site and set roles to Contributors (if you want to moderate what get’s posted/uploaded) or Authors (can publish anything, anytime). Users can post from wp-admin or find a WP plugin for front-end posting/uploading.
