ParticipantObviously if I had experience with this type of coding then I wouldn’t get stuck on it but unfortunately that’s the root of the problem
Well start from somewhere if people want other than what is provided for free out of the box, defaults then they ought to be prepared to put a little time in on learning and gaining those skills at least at a basic level.
I do hope you did read the codex walkthrough and at least try to understand the process, it’s not too difficult.
I would have urged you to take the advice earlier and wait for BP 1.7 to be released then this process would have been much easier for you.

ParticipantGood to know, @dgteam … My configuration works fine, and it took a long time to get it configured, but I would love an updated look and feel, mostly to attract subscribers.
So while it is something I want to do, I am conflicted about updating.

Participant@kkradel if you changed anything in BP core files, then it would be a challenging upgrade. I would set up a test server and check out BP trunk with import of your current site’s DB to figure out what to do when you upgrade. Check out WP codex re moving to new site for how to change DB info before importing to test server.

@mercime
ParticipantInitial scan shows that you would need to change 17 files within the 6 BuddyPress folders transferred to your Flexx theme during the BP Compatibility process. Open up your header.php file, copy all code, paste to pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php, footer.php files. If you have the code for the other sidebar-xxxx.php as well as a possible template file for a 3-column page, then post the codes for both files in pastebin.com as well.

ParticipantThe thing that I seem to get stuck on is the fact that my theme has 3 columns and the walkthrough only shows 1-2 columns. Obviously if I had experience with this type of coding then I wouldn’t get stuck on it but unfortunately that’s the root of the problem 🙁 any way you can show me an example of a 3 column code?

ParticipantFirst thing you do is check the BP codex documentation where you will find a walkthrough for this step people seem to get stuck on. Have a read and a go at starting the process off and report back to this thread with your results and issues.
Or better still if you can hang on and wait for BP 1.7 to be released, that will work with any theme and is the best option really.

ModeratorI am not sure that something is out there to do that but it does sound like a nice idea and I can see it being useful. Off the top of my head you could do something possibly using profile fields. Maybe in a similar way to tagging. There probably are a number of ways to achieve this though.

ModeratorUpgrading is not something to be fearful about if you do it methodically. First up, 1.7 hasn’t been released yet so if you’re going to upgrade my suggestion would be to go to 1.6.x (whatever the latest is when you do it). That way you can ensure you’re also ready for when 1.7 comes out. You can of course run ‘bleeding edge’ or the latest 1.7 but if you’re upgrading and it’s a live community you may not want to do that.
Next, my advice is make a list of all the plugins and check each to see if they are updated. If they aren’t note it and when you reactivate all plugins do those one by one to see if they work or break your site. You may even want to do that testing on a test site.
Before you do anything you need to back up – this is your safety net. Remove all plugins, make sure you have the latest theme and use the default one first then load the default BuddyPress theme first. Doing in stages means you can check as you do each one and know what is responsible for the issue if you do find any.

Participant@kizzywizzy, BP 1.6.2 use wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.8.3
@gorod, it seems that you installed bbpress as standalone forum plugin instead of using Group Forums. Anyway, both can be used, the only thing to take care of, is the forum base name. BP Group Forum use “forums” by priority, even if you use bbPress as plugin. So if you use bbpress, you have to rename the forum base name to something other as “forums”. See “forums > settings” to change this.
Here’s a video for more explanation: http://labzip.com/the-definitive-guide-to-buddypress-bbpress-configuration/
and something older, but good to understand on how all this works, on the codex: https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums-v1-5/January 5, 2013 at 3:52 pm #149727In reply to: Customizing the admin bar

ParticipantI’m confused…
To keep the admin toolbar in place for everyone, all the time, go to Settings > BuddyPress > Settings page — Main Settings – Toolbar and leave the box unchecked.
The Toolbar line under Main Settings reads “[checkbox] Show the Toolbar for logged out users”
If I uncheck the box, would the toolbar not disappear for visitors that have not logged in???

bp-themes/bp-legacy/buddypress-functions.php (3 diffs)
bp-themes/bp-legacy/js/buddypress.js (2 diffs)
—————————————————————-
trunk/bp-loader.php
change line 269 does not exist
– $this->version = ‘1.7-bleeding-6305’;
+ $this->version = ‘1.7-bleeding-6326’;my .php file line 269 has $root_blog_id = 1;
—————————————————————-
and i can’t remember which but the file did not change at all..

ParticipantI am also having the same issue. I am served on Bluehost pro using the most current WP and BP. Registration seems to come and go randomly, I have tried deactivating EVERY plugin to no avail. I also deleted the buddypress plugin, deleted its folder, then re installed it fresh: same problem
I can register in google chrome on my computer, but not in IE or Firefox. Other folks are reporting the same problem, including google chrome on certain devices. My new website is now at an absolute standstill because of this. I just can’t seem to remedy the situation.

ParticipantGood to hear it, @bluellipse!
And sorry, BuddyPress Mods, and everyone else, for the multiple replies here that I couldn’t get to work properly with the correct code (backticks,

, etc.) showing?

Participant@bluellipse it’s not letting me place the code within the reply for some reason, so just find what I’ve been able to post above (it stripped some of it away, such as; meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0″) and remove that entire line of code that exists between the php statements and you should be good to go.

ParticipantHey @bluellipse don’t worry about reverting or any of that other jazz, just try removing the following code from your header.php file near the top;
“
Of course, place the updated header.php file in your child theme so that it’s not overwritten on the next update.
I can’t recall offhand if we’d also deleted anything else, but I’m pretty sure that this will quickly solve your problem.
Sorry everyone, but the “responsiveness” does look terrible on mobile, at least concerning the BP-Default/child theme, and we killed it off as soon as it showed up and are currently exploring other options for mobile, which is extremely important these days, no doubt about it, but achieving it by making your site into a jumbled mess is most definitely not the way to go here.
Hope this helps!
