You might also look into custom walkers for the WordPress menu.

You could replicate the styles in the plugin and then manually create a menu via your theme. Would that suit your needs?

I had an odd experience on WP Engine as well. In my case, pushing their support team to correct the problem via the WP Engine ticket system led to a solution. Unfortunately, it took a lot of nudging before they took action.

Yes, I suppose it’s always possible to commission a suitable developer to upgrade a single plugin.

I must say that since coming on these forums (wp & bp & wpse) I have experienced nothing but hardworking, selfless givers who have slaved over and solved the sometimes absurd problems of takers (for the most part) like me. And in fairness the vast majority the stuff is up-to-date.

Some open source bp plugins like bebop & commonsinabox have been helped along with grants from outside sources. Perhaps if there was some fund that some of us (or hopefully a lot of us) could contribute to in a small way that could be used to fund a project such as this (the updating of one buddypress plugin to be put back (working with current versions of wp & bp) in the wp repository) and then another and another.

fwiw spam is a pandemic or appdemic issue it affects nearly all CMS / forum apps out there on the net, the issue is not one that can be effectively dealt with one can only stem the tide and also fwiw it’s up to you the end user of this frely provided software to put you various traps and safeguards in place, and to be massivelly pro-active in the fight, if on the other hand  – as some have wailed, that they return to their site after a week and it’s all full of spam well…

So posts  – and they are quite frequent – that point the accusatory finger at BP ought to stop doing so, it is NOT BP’s issue it’s yours!

And there are a whole heap of approaches one can take and a million threads on the subject, oh and it’s not just above specific apps or plugins  a little knowledge of how to manipulate resources such as .htaccess  can help.

well most any theme should be able to incorporate buddypress content/pages but obviously a theme which is designed with buddypress in mind has the potential for a far more seamless user experience. in the next version of buddypress theme modification may not even be necessary for most themes, but again i would tend to go for a theme which takes advantage of buddypress’s additional functionality.

i don’t think that’s a fair statement at all. everyone here knows how important this issue is and everyone here is doing their best to incorporate features that help without any downside. the article you mention is also referencing wanguard which sounds like a tool to fight slog regs but there is potential downside (blocking legit users who have been incorrectly flagged by wanguard for some reason or another).

A lot of these requests are not necessarily that straight forward, if you do not have the level of technical skills required you probably ought to be considering hiring a WP/BP developer to get your site running, especially as you have a somewhat unrealistic timescale involved here.

Getting BP compatible with your chosen theme, does require a little coding knowledge, basic level. You need to look through the BP codex documentation for the template pack walkthroughs which will guide you as to how to make BP template files compatible, also there’s a long list of themes already put through this process so check yours isn’t on it first.

More detailed help might be forthcoming but this isn’t the greatest time of year to be seeking detailed help as many on extended breaks at the moment.

From the network admin you’re correct it will go to wp-admin/network/site-new.php.

Easiest way to see the issue is to go to the “My Sites” link and click “Create new site” from there (assuming logged in users can create sites). This is how non-network admin’s would create a new site.

This link is borked (unless you’re using “blogs” as the slug for “Site Activity” possibly… haven’t tested that). Here’s the trac ticket with the fix (slated for 1.7):

@latinoleader Open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, post to pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php, and footer.php files.

You really should not post links like this on a open public forum where any age group has access, at the very least you MUST preface your op with the acronym ‘NSFW’ to warn people not to click on the link, but really considering the nature of the links it’s extremely poor form of you to post them at all here.

You should have described the nature of the issue in as much detail as possible and allowed other to see if they could re-create.

it seems you are on a hosted WP service. Did you install your site with any integrated WP installer ?

If yes, i would recommend you to not use this service and install your WP via FTP. SO you’re sure to have a complete and latest WP. You currently on 3.4.2…

Your BP regisrer page leads to a free cooking book. That’s well, but /register/ is a path, not a book ! 😉
Also, have you set a page from within BP settings ?

Read the codex to learn how to install correctly WP+BP before using a special template as “marketplace”. Don’t know if this one is ready to use with BP anyway.
