ParticipantClosing this, continue discussion at https://buddypress.org/support/topic/register-2/ please respond to question posted there.
I lost my hope for them due to lack of assistance avail. I hope the communities here on WP are better!
Please know that all of those helping in the WP, BP and bbP forums including even that of Joomla’s forums are all volunteers living in different time zones. If you require on demand support, you’d need to hire a developer at http://jobs.wordpress.net or at https://buddypress.org/support/forum/plugin-forums/bp-jobs-board/ etc.

KeymasterHTTP 500 errors means a problem occurred on the server.
Contact your host, and ask them to tell you what the errors are listed inside the server’s PHP error log. Once you have that, tell us what it says.

Tim
ParticipantThe big question is: Why not?!
This is a little silly.
With groups set up, you could effectively replace old school “forums” with the more dynamic “groups”.
You can just message from your profile, or to a group. It turns the entire site into an extendable forum. All that’s missing is a better text editor.
This would simplify things a great deal. Right now, you can start a conversation in the forum; in a group; or just with a message from the profile. These are not all that integrated. Way too easy to get lost, or lose related content. It’s a mess.I know with the new updates, bbpress and BuddyPress are friends, and you can (in theory) feed your group forums into the site wide forum. But… why have a site wide forum when you can just message to groups?
I’ve had to create a page on the site just to explain to people what this Groups vs Forums stuff is about. Think about it from their perspective. What the hell is a “group”. This really smacks of developer centric thinking dominating user centric thinking.
I’ve found this: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-tinymce/
But I’m getting a fatal error, and so are other people (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-bp-tinymce-fatal-error?replies=3#post-4107216)April 19, 2013 at 5:13 am #162126In reply to: Making the theme Catchbox compatible with Buddypress
@mercime
Participant@keenanlukey Yes. You should deactivate the BP Template Pack plugin if you’re using BuddyPress 1.7. Since you’ve reached Step 3 of Appearance > BP Compatibility process, it means that you should also delete the 6 BP folders (activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, registration) transferred to your catch-box theme folder in server during the compatibility process. Then go check out your BuddyPress pages in site frontend. Per initial scan of your theme’s page.php and stylesheet, looks like only minor, if any, CSS changes only.

Participant….just realized that you can’t see the issue in the link above.
Here are some screen shots of what I was talking about.
@modemlooper
Default Right out the Box – no codes changed… Admin Panel no pics show, but this is what shows in the activity field without hitting the “share button”
http://vanitywigs.com/buddy1.jpgThis is how it looks when I changed the directory folder to buddypress-share-it to match the coding.
http://vanitywigs.com/buddy2.jpgHope this explains my issue for some resolution. Thanks so much and I apologize if this is not the the right forum to place this issue.

ParticipantAlright, no suggestions. I sure am not having any luck getting feedback in these forums.
Plan B would be to get quotes from some reputable WP development companies to build something custom, as I don’t know that I can build it myself. Can anyone point me to some of the more recommended developers in the community? If it’s against the forum policies to reply publicly with suggestions just send them to me privately please – multiple suggestions are preferred.

ParticipantWell, there was a very stupid reason for the problem and special thanks to “wpbadman_plus”. A code in .htaccess which stops bad search and queries was the why of happening:
`RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (//|%2F%2F|/%2F|%2F/|<||>|%3E|%00) [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (..|%2e%2e|%2e.|.%2e)(/|%2f) [NC,OR]`
thank you everyone and god bless Boston.April 18, 2013 at 2:33 pm #162052In reply to: Private forum page not found error

ParticipantHi
I certainly did not go through all the details, though in another installation the link was working.
After going through the steps, I edited some settings under “B. Set Up Group and Sitewide Forums” and now the group forum is now active. I learned quite a number of new things about forums/group forums.Thank you very much!
Kind regards

Participantsearching a forum first often throws up useful results:
https://buddypress.org/support/search/?bbp_search=toolbarThis is an issue ticketed and patched, for the moment you can add:
show_admin_bar(true); to your functions.php in your theme.

ModeratorI believe you’ve found a bug.
The Base group allows an admin to set default visibility levels.
I was going to suggest you set each field to “logged-in users” and allow users to change their visibility.But those settings are not honored on the register form.
You can submit a bug here.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/
Log in with the same user / pw you use for these forums.Also – do you also see “This field can be seen by: etc. ” under each Base field on the register page?
And a ‘change’ link?There is a check in register.php, but it apparently fails by returning true for logged out users.
`if ( bp_current_user_can( ‘bp_xprofile_change_field_visibility’ ) ) `
Like this image taken while logged out on a vanilla install of WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7, 2012 theme

ParticipantWP 2.5.1, BP 1.7, bbpress 2.2.4
Sitewide and group forums have gone in BP 1.7 but before upgrading to 1.7, at BP installation I unchecked “Discussion forums” option.
The problem persists if I deactivate BP plugin. I know, you’ll say now it’s not BP’s problem. And you’are right.
I tried to find a solution on WP and bbpress forums as well, without success.Someone suggested to add an exception in .htaccess for admin-ajax.php, but I don’t know how to do this.
I tried:
`
AuthType Basic
AuthName “wp-admin”
require valid-user
AuthUserFile “/home/vssracin/.htpasswds/public_html/vssracing/wp-admin/passwd”
Files “admin-ajax.php”>
Satisfy any
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
/Files>
`but it’s not working (with correct “<". If I put these here the entire Files lines disappear).
Any idea?
Thank you.April 17, 2013 at 6:29 pm #161979In reply to: Group forum gives error 500 when creating new post
@mercime
Participant@otaibia_traveler first, you need to provide more information about your installation. Is this a new install with WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7 and bbPress 2.3? If so, did you install your Group Forum per information found at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ?
April 17, 2013 at 6:26 pm #161977In reply to: Private forum page not found error
@mercime
Participant@xprt007 so basically when you say latest WP 3.5.1, BP 1.7 and now bbPress 2.3, right? If your group is set to Private then the Group Forum created via https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ should be private as well. So the question is, how did you set up your forum for that group?
