Participantforum, activity, member directory, mail, chat, profile page, groups, events, gallery, mobile, RSS are shown as available in WPS but I felt I can get all these using other plugins in buddypress But want to know the best FREE AND SELF HOSTED PLUGINS for LOGGED IN FRIENDS in BUDDYPRESS and want to know how to get some sort of Points system to encourage users to participate in good discussions to enhance the knowledge experience in my BP installation.

KeymasterHowdy y’all. This was a small bug introduced in BuddyPress 1.5, that is now fixed in trunk, and will come as part of 1.7. I’ll cross-post this to bbpress.org, since I know users there are having these issues also.

@mercime
Participant@intimez the documentation for installing the forums has been overhauled and the solution is there per my post in the link you gave above.

@mercime
Participant@intimez I misunderstood your first post. I’ve just updated the instructions for installing sitewide and group forums. https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

ParticipantYou could add “/forum” to the end of the permalinks on “groups/groups-loop.php” of your theme.

ParticipantTake a look at this topic:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/changing-group-tab-display-defaults/#post-55449
I set a custom tab as the default for my internal collaboration system based on BP, can’t recall exactly how I did it but the above topic looks about right.

ParticipantIt would make more sense for them to make a single blog post, or a forum topic, rather than groups. Otherwise, if users were tracking their recovering than I think it would be best not to use groups but to use their profile (updates regarding their recovery, achievements, blogs, milestones, etc etc etc)

ParticipantIt works great. The only issues I encountered were with the group forums – though my extra groups don’t require forums so it’s a non issue for me.

@ChrisClayton
Participant@chrchcol – this seems like the same issue – http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/fatal-error-when-trying-to-access-group-forums-in-buddypress
From Jeff in that thread:
Thanks so much for all of your input… turns out all that I needed to do was re-do the setup for the forums pointing it to the old bb-config.php file.
After completing that step, all the forums worked again without a hitch and no data was lost.

ParticipantHad three new users of wordpress/buddypress and each of them ran through the docs with confusion. I attempted it myself and noticed the same confusion which is the reason I posted this topic here for assistance: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/installation-wizard-failure-due-to-doc-confusion/
We were able to go through the installation of groups forum with no problem since the doc is clear on that part. Any help from your end is appreciated. Thanks for your reply @karmatosed

ModeratorJust as a check have you turned on forums and installed BBPress? Or is this the only step you have done?
https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ may help you with this if you’ve not followed all the steps.

ParticipantI noticed this is the second time it being mentioned so would like to clarify.
Are all support questions now going to wp plugin page and not on bp support forum?
February 1, 2013 at 7:27 pm #152199In reply to: HELLO?!?! Any Moderators?
@mercime
ParticipantI was under the impression that the point of the forum was to get help/answers to issues.
@jwf3773 Sure it is. However, holding moderators as if they were accountable for third-party plugins per your call out in topic title “HELLO?!?! Any Moderators?” is not kosher 🙂 Please do post support requests for this plugin at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/bp-group-reviews

ParticipantHi @mercime
We went through the steps again and same confusion. My suggestion to them was to skip the instructions here on buddypress for the time being until I can clear it up in this post.
Please correct me if I’m wrong but from what you are saying it should be something like this:
-Follow the steps here: https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installation-wizard/ and make sure “Discussion Forums” component is not selected
-Once the installation is completed, go to Plugins > Add New > and type in bbpress and then click on Install Now
After that, where is the choice to select site wide or group forum since the buddypress component is marked as inactive?

Participant@mgkoller – Thanks for adding your comments / helping me out.
Whey you say that you got the times working using the BBpress forum running alongside BuddyPress, do you mean the times in the forum itself, or the times in the BP Activity Stream that reference what was posted in the Forum? i.e. ” posted an update in the ..blah blah… hours ago”?
For me, the time in the actual forum works fine. i.e If I created a new topic right now it would say ” said 1 second ago”. But if I immediately go to the BP Activity Stream, it says that I started a new topic 5 hours and 1 second ago.
.. and then of course I have the problem as everyone else in WP Admin Activity where the same activity as above is 5 hours ahead.
Thanks!

Participant@JJJ , please look at this post, could these two problems be connected somehow?

ParticipantI created another test account on WordPress.org to test earlier (to see if I had been banned/blacklisted over here for some odd reason). Anyways, the test account is: DCraft11
I just tested the account and it is still having the issue. Tested in Chrome, FireFox, and IE. I’m logging in using the admin bar at the top, hovering over “Anonymous”, selecting login, and using the dedicated login screen.

KeymasterSounds like your role wasn’t being automatically set correctly here on buddypress.org. Both of your accounts are set correctly now, and I didn’t make any changes. This isn’t cookie or cache related, it’s bbPress (what powers our forums) not behaving the way it’s supposed to.
It’s not the first time I’ve heard of this, but it’s something I haven’t been able to duplicate with new accounts. If anyone else has this problem, and reads this, drop into #buddypress on Freenode/IRC, and ping user ‘jjj’ so I can look at your account in real time when it’s happening.

ParticipantPhoooh, I had a strange problem and couldn’t log in to the BP forum for over a week (??). There is another post about it here. When loged in to my WP account I couldn’t open the BP forum (“Error 404 – Destination Not Found”). Another user suggested today that I should try to click on all menu items in the BP website first, before clicking on the forum. I did that, and suddenly I could open the forum again. (wtf?)
Now to the strange part…
I just wanted to answer to this post, but decided to give another try of installing BP. Nothing has be changed since the last time. Except, this time I could run the installation wizard to the end without any problems. (??) So I guess that I installed BP successfully.
I suspect that these two problems were somehow connected.
I think that I wasn’t able to install BP for the same reasons I couldn’t login to this support forum. Still, I don’t know what it was..
Does it sound crazy?February 1, 2013 at 2:26 pm #152176Misko Stanisic
ParticipantI had a problem for over a week to login to BP forum (!!!??). Please check the post on the WP support forum about it.
The problem was (is?):
If I’m NOT logged in, I can open the Buddypress forum and find and read my topic.
Of course, I can’t post on the forum if I’m not logged in. So when I log in, and click on “Support” in order to open the forum I got “Error 404 – Destination Not Found” (Buddypress.org page with menus and all other elements but in the middle it says: “Error 404 – Destination Not Found”).If I go under my account settings, I can see my topic under “my activities” > “my mentions”, but when I click on the link I got “Error 404 – Destination Not Found”.
I emptied all cache and cookies and I tried from different browsers, machines, networks, I even created and tested with new user account, but it is always the same. I have NO CLUE what to do!
Today somebody suggested that he had the same problem, and the solution was to click on all the menu items ones first before clicking on the forum (??). So I did, and it worked (??????) – I could finally open the forum.
Please guys, what is it? If I’m to use BP I want to be sure that I can use the forum, and that this whole thing is working.
Thank you in advance!

@ChrisClayton
Participant@resom – BuddyPress doesn’t properly support capabilities (in the current release) except for some basic is_super_admin checking.
The moderator/keymaster/forum roles are from BBpress. And currently have no uses inside buddypress.
In 1.7 (the next release) the core devs have been working on making this better – See: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2348 for developer discussions on this.
