ParticipantOne more step required:
When I went into existing groups I had to turn off Discussion Forums for each group and turn back on to get it to work.

ParticipantAfter experimenting with some of the suggestions here https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/buddypress-forums-group-forums-not-working/?topic_page=2&num=15 [which may work for others?] I deleted BuddyPress and bbPress and resintalled only BuddyPress.
I think created a new group and turned off enable forum and then turned it back on.
At last I have created my first topic.
NB when deleting and reinstalling BuddyPress
a. for some reason the BuddyPress and bbPress directories (folders) were not deleted [ie viewing using FTP program …./Plugins/BuddyPress still existed – so I renamed that folder even tho FTP says it doesn’t exist. To short cut that I deleted the bbPress folder using FTP and I also made sure that bb-config.php was gone from the root.
b. When I reinstalled BuddyPress the ‘nag’ referred to in the Codex [https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/] did not appear and all my settings were as they had been EXCEPT that Group forums were not installed [which was what I wanted]. So I reinstalled them and hey presto everything seems to work.

GordonRe
ParticipantIsn’t this what happens / is supposed to happen when you make the group a private group at [Group name/Admin/Settings – on the front of the site accessible if you are logged in as site administrator/group administrator?
” This is a private group
Only users who request membership and are accepted can join the group.
This group will be listed in the groups directory and in search results.
Group content and activity will only be visible to members of the group.”September 28, 2012 at 8:31 pm #142637In reply to: Converting from SMF 2.0.2 to BuddyPress, need help!
Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterYou need to convert SMF into bbPress. bbPress is a forum, like SMF, so you need to convert from like-to-like. I’m not sure if bbPress has an importer for SMF, but check it out: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress/

Participant@mercime Thanks so much for your response! I did attempt to add them to categories, and these are the results I receive. Not exactly what I’m looking for, but we’re getting closer.
http://stonerapproved.com/forums/
The following user is using BuddyPress/bbPress Forums… I’m guessing they customized a lot of the code themselves. But this is exactly what I’m looking for. How the Forums are separated into categories. It’s very clean, and organized, and you get the bigger preview for each forum inside of each category.

THANKS!
September 28, 2012 at 5:05 pm #142627In reply to: Buddypress 1.6 multisite help?
learning22
ParticipantI am just learning MultiSite WordPress myself. So far I’ve learned that if I want to edit Templates or Plugins pages for another site, I first have to activate the Theme I want to make changes to as my first level site, the Admin Site, or Edit the Plugin via the Admin site. Then, I go under the Main/Admin Site and edit the Templates or Plugin. After I have everything looking good, then I activate the Theme or Plugin for the actual site where I want to use the Template or Plugin. One must use this method (based on my learning) if one wants to use an external Editor, such as Dreamweaver.
I did notice that the access to the Activity, Sites, Forums, et al only show up in WordPress’s Tool Bar (the dark gray bar at the top of the page) under my Profile Link on the far right, when I am Logged In. I think this part is not clear in the directions, imo. After the initial install of BuddyPress MultiSite, I was able to see a couple of the BuddyPress pages links in the Main Menu of my top Site only after I am logged in.
Since I know I want to edit my Theme for one of the Sites, I have not enabled the separate tables for the additional site. I am going to edit the Theme first and then enable the other sites using the method described at this page: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/using-multisite-with-buddypress/segregated-x-profile-fields-for-multisite/ .

KeymasterHave you searched the WordPress.org forums? That’s the better place, as this doesn’t seem to be related to BuddyPress.

@mercime
Participant== or if it just doesn’t work that way ==
Not exactly, But first, you need to create categories for the forums https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started-with-bbpress/#creating-your-first-forum then proceed from there. Best get assistance or more information at https://bbpress.org/forums/

Participant== I have a repair button. It says I need to add buddypress pages manually. I really do not know what to do. Please help! ==
You can create a Page (Pages > Add New) for each BP component you activated. Then go to Settings > BuddyPress > Pages and select the page you created for each component then click save.
== to install BP for cubepoints integration. ==
Post at plugin’s forums at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/cubepoints-buddypress-integration/forum/
