@mercime
ParticipantNot quite a BuddyPress issue but more of Pagelines theme. You should check out their docs where you have to install the “BuddyPress for PageLines Plugin” on top of the BP Template Pack plugin. Not sure how fresh the info is though http://www.pagelines.com/wiki/How_to_Use_the_BuddyPress_for_PageLines_Plugin
You should post query about BP Compatibility at theme author’s forums.

Member@mercime The DB files on the server match now.
We have un-installed and re-installed bp Forums for Groups but no change yet.Perhaps the DB changes take a while to kick in? We’ll check again tomorrow and let you know.

Participantthanks for that (I saw that page… was right in front of me and I missed it!).
So I guess that means that BP isn’t integrating group forums with the add-on yet, is this the direction BP is heading?

@mercime
ParticipantbbPress 2+, the plugin, is referred to as the Sitewide Forums in the following guide https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

KeymasterYes, no.
Assuming you mean the newest versions of bbPress (2.x), you won’t get group forums at the moment. You can continue to use bbPress for site-wide forums.
You can either install bbPress 1.x as well (included within BP) or you can wait a bit longer for BuddyPress 1.6 and bbPress 2.1, where you’ll be able to have group forums with bbPress 2.

ParticipantIt’s never a good idea with software like this to run redundant versions and you would face increasing problems with other plugin etc compatibility and potentially security.
Maybe the theme can be updated, but It can be very hard for anyone to be particularly helpful with commercial themes unless they buy the theme to examine it….
You could try to get help on the theme’s support forum: http://support.stoodeo.com/forum/huddle-buddypress-amp-wordpress-theme – as non verified buyer I can’t even see the posts….

@mercime
ParticipantThis is not a BuddyPress issue. What happened is that you changed Site URL instead of the Site Title. See https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
To resolve this issue, please post at WordPress forums https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

ParticipantNot sure what you’ve done to get the white page, but is https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-clear-the-previous-registration-form-data-1/ a similar error?
February 14, 2012 at 10:09 pm #129812In reply to: Re-direct to other page?
aces
ParticipantCouldn’t you use something like travel-junkie’s walled garden technique:
`
function sh_walled_garden()
{
global $bp;
if( bp_is_register_page() || bp_is_activation_page() || bp_is_page( BP_FORUMS_SLUG ) || bp_is_page( BP_GROUPS_SLUG ) )
return;if( ! bp_is_blog_page() && ! is_user_logged_in() )
bp_core_redirect( bp_get_signup_page() );
}add_action( ‘bp_init’, ‘sh_walled_garden’ );
`
This goes in bp-custom.php and hides members and activity from those not logged in but enables forums and groups for everyone. It can also be customised…..Chris Clayton discussed a similar method here
Having different menus for logged in users is discussed here – also see here

ParticipantHi Paul,
Thank you so much for your reply. That is exactly the info i needed.
All the best with bbPress2 dev. Cant wait to give it a go when its ready for test.
RobFebruary 14, 2012 at 7:39 pm #129804Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterWe’re building bbPress 2 (aka sitewide forums) into BuddyPress 1.6 and bbPress 2.1. It’s not trivial work, and it should soon be ready for testing.
I think you’ll need to dig into the bbPress 1 functions (/bp-forums/bbpress/). Looks like bb_get_id_from_slug() might be what you want:
`bb_get_id_from_slug( ‘forum’, $your_slug );`
However you end up doing it, if you’re trying to call a bbPress 1 function and PHP says it doesn’t exist, put this code in before you make the call(s). It’ll load bbPress, so use it sparingly because it uses a lot of memory to load: `do_action( ‘bbpress_init’ );`

ParticipantBased on the structure of Thematic, you would have to change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your Thematic child theme during the BP Compatibility process.
Download the 6 folders mentioned above – activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, registration – to your computer hard drive.
A. Open up each of the 16 BP files and at the Top of each file replace:
``with:
`<?php
// calling the header.php
get_header();
// action hook for placing content above #container
thematic_abovecontainer();
?><?php
// calling the widget area ‘page-top’
get_sidebar(‘page-top’);
the_post();
thematic_abovepost();
?>
<div id="post-<?php the_ID();
echo ‘” ‘;
if (!(THEMATIC_COMPATIBLE_POST_CLASS)) {
post_class();
echo ‘>’;
} else {
echo ‘class=”‘;
thematic_post_class();
echo ‘”>’;
}
// creating the post header
thematic_postheader();
?>`February 14, 2012 at 4:30 am #129764@mercime

Participant== Are you suggesting we copy the contents of wp-config.php and overwrite the contents of bb-config.php? ==
Not at all.
What I’m saying is that the DB info in wp-config.php should be the same as the DB info in the generated bb-config.php file which you would see if the installation of the group forums was successful. Double-check your database if 7 yourPrefix_bb_… tables were generated, though I doubt it at this point.
What you can do is delete the incomplete bb-config.php file you have in server. Then go to dashboard menu BuddyPress > Forums and re-run installation of Group Forums.

ParticipantHave you ensured that the bp dashboard settings for forums are activated? Forums discussions are enabled and forums for groups installed, if yes to both of those check your bb-config.ph file has the correct connections details to access the DB (the settings should be the same as the wp-config.php file and is located in the root directory)
When you create groups ensure you enable forums in the group steps, if you have forums enabled and all settings correct try checking the group forums checkbox again in the creation steps and re-saving the group to see if that kicks things into life.

MemberI was trying to use configure-smtp but it was generating error codes, so it was not working either way.
I hadn’t found that post, but it would probably would have done the trick.
As noted below, I now have it working with configure-smtp, but, is there a reason you like WP Mail SMTP over configure-smpt?
Many thanks,
Rory
Solved.
I needed to use the Configure SMTP plugin, but leave the default SMPT host at “local host”.
I needed to spend more time searching the error codes I was getting. That google search lead me to a post at http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/installing-mu-plugins

Solved now – The hosting company told me to swap outgoing mail server from “host111.hostmonster.com” to “localhost’ and now seems to be working.
Thanks tremendously for all your help @Ulrich and others….It’s not easy being green.

KeymasterIf you just want forums, try bbPress. It comes with an option for TinyMCE controls. I’ve not used that plugin before I guess it needs an update.

ParticipantIf you are using configure-smtp then, from what I can see, it will be sending via smtp not php.
Have you tried using WP Mail SMTP? It can send via php…
The last post on https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/register-confirmationactivation-email-is-not-sent-out/ might be useful (If you hadn’t already found it)…

Member@mercime Ok, we’re getting there! We are relative novices at this.
(might also be useful for @clubugly)We have copied the contents of wp-config.php + bb-config.php via FTP
See it here: [deleted]Are you suggesting we copy the contents of wp-config.php and overwrite the contents of bb-config.php?
Thanks

MemberSort of, maybe. It tells me somewhere out there at bluehost php sendmail is waiting for instructions.
I already did my very best to uninstall WP (using simplescripts), delete the WP DB and DB users, and delete any other traces I could find using ftp. When I re-installed, I could register a new user to the WP installation and generate a successful activation email (which looked just like the ones they are talking about in your forum link). Then I installed BP, went through the same registration process, same address, same result in the WP BP users lists, but no email is sent.
Something is not landing in the right place or getting updated correctly when BP is installed. Still flummoxed.
Thank you though.
