How can I limited the activity feed to only display activities in the groups the user belongs to?

Our site groups need to be very private. Being able to view a friend’s activity is a great but not if the friend’s activity is a private group that the user does not belong to.

For example, a friend belongs to a private group named ‘secrets’ but the user does not belong to the group.

Now the friend creates a topic (bbPress) in the ‘secrets’ group forum discussing a ‘new formula’. The user will now see the topic posted in their activity feed. The new secret formula is now revealed outside the ‘secrets’ group.

I hope this makes sense.

Hello to all.

i seem to do not understand how this one should work:
wp 4.9
bbpress 4.1.0

We are using Woffice Theme with buddypress.

User ist member of private group, group has forum, role ist participant. when the user searches for Topics or Replies he does not get any results. Neither with Woffice search bar on top nor with forum search. results show only topics/replies from public group forums.

Admnistrator/keymaster gets the right results, so it`s technically working. probably a rights problem.

What am i missing? Shouldn`t that work?

Please ask questions about ACF on their support forum.
They may have functions that will return the data that you need.
If not, they can tell you how to write a custom query for their data.

My proto website is at https://ecohydraulics.org/. I am running WordPress 5.1 and I use Easy Hide Login 1.0.6. I have installed BuddyPress 4.2 and set it up as instructed. The problem I need help with is that the “Login” top menu item that is added by BuddyPress wants to go to the wp-login.php, but this is expressly blocked by the plugin Easy Hide Login. I need to set the Login hypertext URL to go to the slug I have specified in the Easy Hide Login plugin. Please advise me how to do that or where I can find the answer.

I have searched the BuddyPress documentation and support forum extensively as well as the internet for MANY hours. I have not found an explicit instruction how to do this, but I get the hint that I probably have to edit one or more .php files. I just don’t want to do that without being sure what to do, so it is not pure trial and error. Ideally, I would just specify the slug somewhere, but I’ll do whatever is advised. I apologize in advance if this is already answered somewhere, so I will gladly take a link to such a place, but my searches have not yielded the answer, so I am asking for help now after many days of struggle. Thanks.

Hello! I am trying to edit the links to my Terms & Conditions & Privacy Policy on my sign up for Registration via WordPress/BuddyPress. I am using Customify as a theme and plugins BuddyPress & Youzer to create a social membership site.

I think a good enhancement would be for this hook to pass some data: bp_core_general_settings_after_save
Currently, there is no way to tell if there were errors.
The same issue is found in the other files in bp-settings/actions/

You can open an enhancement ticket here.

I can confirm this bug. And it is not specific to a Template Pack.
Some formatting is lost : afaik, the 3 alignment options and the numbered and bullet lists.

I believe this is due to the allowed tags array used by BP.
Those tags are not allowed and therefore are stripped when edits are saved.

The allowed tags need to be altered to allow those tags.
Or filtered to allow those tags when profile edits are saved and a Multi-Line Text Area field is present.

I’ve searched the internet and this forum in particular for a couple of hours but could not find a proper workaround for this issue:

As you know, BuddyPress setup works by creating two blank pages – members and groups. If I type in a meta description in Yoast for both and preview the pages, the description text is added to the page header and gets properly displayed in the page source text.

But as soon as I assign the two pages to the BuddyPress plugin, the description gets stripped completely. In the page source appears an author note that a description needs to be added.

I could live with that, but I urgently need to make my members page and all its related members profile content invisible to search engines. The severe problem is, that the Yoast settings „noindex, nofollow“ are stripped too.

The BBpress Forum page is not affected by this issue. Yoast can apply a meta description and the „noindex, nofollow“ command, which is a good thing.

Can someone please help me out with a solution?

I’ll explain my problem. On my website I use the Asgaros Forum plugin. In the posts published on the forum by users, the “Name” field of the extended profile is shown. My problem is that currently more users can enter the same name in that field. I would like to know if it is possible to prohibit the use of the same name for multiple users or to remove that field. thanks a lot

I m using buddypress and youzer on my website and it seems like whenever people use the registration form to sign up, they are taken back to the homepage but no user is being created in the database. I also have wpforo forum plugin running which supposedly works smoothly in conjuction with buddypress.

in fact I want to make a multilingual site with multisite. Each site has a separate forum, I want someone who is enrolled in the Greek site to see profile information on the English site, and use the English forum and other things.

I cannot duplicate your issue.

Your OP shows a screenshot that indicates a lot of customization of a member profile.
In order to narrow down the source of your issue – have you tried removing those customizations?
It could be that the customizations have not been updated to work with BP 4+ .

Have you tried switching to a WP theme like 2017 to see if the issue persists?
Have you tried deactivating other plugins to see if the issue persists ?

Unless your issues can duplicated on a basic install of the latest versions of WP and BP, it very doubtful that a solution will posted in these forums.

We’ve had a few requests for Fan Page functionality recently so I took a look at the announce group code to see what changes could be made to turn it into a fan page plugin. Other than changing the name to fan page I also noted that it did not prevent group members from creating new topics in the forum so I’ve forked the plugin and added those changes. Hopefully that will deliver something like what you are looking for. I’ll submit it to WordPress.org and let you know once it’s live.

BP Profile Search will search as many profile fields as you want for each search input.
Just follow the directions for that plugin.

Yep, that resolves this problem. It looks VERY new. Very NICE! Awesome! Tried it, and it works GREAT! Now I just need to add the shortcode to my custom plugin then whitelist it! I found it when I started searching for hooks. I found the top post, and that had a forum post from a guy that had another post in the dv plugin. I got lucky 🙂

Hey @shanebp, Thanks for the help! I know its hard to know EVERYTHING, but I did want to inform you of a solution that does work. Just in case someone else asks! Shortcodes make sense for information that might get updated. It allows users to insert their own. Perfect.
